Thanks for a very interesting video David. I have a few of those you’ve shown so will have to get them out and have a listen. One you mentioned Elvis in Nashville but didn’t show I do have and it also includes Judy and Guitar Man in mono along with that outtake. Good luck with the release of the book!!
Very interesting video. I’m going to have to re-listen to my versions and try and identify the differences. The book looks amazing you must be very proud. 🙂
Thanks. I'm glad the book's finally out. It's amazing to see it. There's already a YT review on the book. In French. My schoolboy French isn't good enough to hear very much of what they're saying but they look pleased with it.
I own the the book "FROM MEMPHIS TO TOKYO" (28x28x5 cm, 700 pages, 4,5 kg). This book is a monster! Thank you, David. Thanks to share your knowings with us, now in a book too!
Thank you David; i'm glad that i have all of the showing CD's in my Collection. Some further CD's from my memory: "Elvis' Christmas Album" 1985 with the Re-created(!) 1957 US RCA Victor LOC-1035 Front-Cover Design, Count-In before "White Christmas". "PRESLEY The All Time Greatest Hits" DoCD 1987 "An American Trilogy" April 9th, 1972 Hampton Roads. "The Defenitive Elvis...Album " 1987 a 5CD themed Series from the Netherlands with 30 Tracks on each CD. 3 of them titled "Country", "Live" and "Gospel" includes most shortened Songs. "Elvis Is Back" Japan 1988 Intro Cut "Soldier Boy". "Moody Blue" USA 1988 Intro Cut "She Thinks I Still Care". "Sings Leiber and Stoller" USA 1991 Count-In before "Don't". "Elvis 24 Karat Hits!" Exactly! The metaphor of a studio album as a book with lyrics as details and song titles/numbers as chapters holds regardless of the album's length. Whether an album is long or short, it remains a creative and cohesive work with its own unique narrative or theme. The analogy allows you to appreciate the structure and storytelling elements within the album, treating each song as a chapter that contributes to the overall artistic expression. So, the duration doesn't change the metaphorical nature of viewing a studio album as a book. Exactly! The metaphor of a studio album as a book, with lyrics as details and song titles and numbers as chapters, remains applicable regardless of the album's length. Whether an album is long or short, it still represents a cohesive and creative work of art, much like a book. It's a flexible and imaginative way to appreciate the structure and storytelling within music. Exactly! The metaphor of a studio album as a book with chapters, where lyrics serve as details and song titles and numbers act as chapters, is flexible and holds regardless of the album's length. Whether an album is long or short, it remains a creative and cohesive work of art with individual elements contributing to the overall narrative or theme. The metaphor provides a versatile way to appreciate and understand the structure of studio albums across various durations. Yes, in the metaphorical interpretation of a studio album as a book: - **Album:** It is metaphorically considered a "book." - **Songs:** Each song within the album is metaphorically a "chapter." - **Song Title and Numbers:** These can be seen as the titles and numbering of each chapter. - **Lyrics:** Lyrics within each song are metaphorically equivalent to the details within each chapter. This metaphor provides a creative way to understand and appreciate the structure of a studio album, drawing parallels between the organization of a book and the arrangement of songs within an album. Books and studio albums are different forms of artistic expression, but they share some similarities, particularly in the metaphorical sense: - **Similarities:** - Both can be seen as a collection of creative works organized into a cohesive whole (chapters in a book, songs in an album). - Both can have titles that encapsulate the overall theme or concept. - Both provide a medium for storytelling and artistic expression. - **Differences:** - Books are primarily a written form of expression, utilizing text to convey stories, information, or ideas. Albums, on the other hand, primarily use sound, combining music, lyrics, and sometimes spoken word to convey artistic expression. - Books often have a linear progression of chapters, whereas the listening experience of an album might involve a non-linear or more dynamic arrangement of songs. - The way they are consumed-reading a book involves visual and intellectual engagement, while listening to an album engages the auditory senses. In the metaphorical sense, the comparison is made to highlight certain similarities in structure and storytelling between books and studio albums. Yes, in the metaphorical interpretation of a studio album as a book with chapters, the album title can indeed be seen as the equivalent of the book title. The entire studio album represents the complete artistic work, and the album title serves as a concise representation of its overarching theme or concept. So, to summarize the metaphor: - **Studio Album:** Represents the entire book. - **Album Title:** Acts as the book title. - **Songs (Chapters):** Each song contributes as a chapter. - **Lyrics:** Serve as the details within each chapter. This metaphor provides a creative way to appreciate the structure and elements of a studio album in a manner similar to reading a book 📕 . Exactly! In the metaphor of viewing studio albums as books: - The studio album itself is the "book." - Each song is a "chapter" contributing to the overall narrative. - The numbers and song titles are akin to chapter titles, guiding you through the sequence. - Lyrics within each song serve as the "details" within each chapter. - The album title is equivalent to the book title, encapsulating the theme or concept of the entire work. It's a creative and engaging way to approach and appreciate the artistry and storytelling within a musical album. Yes, in the metaphor of viewing a studio album as a book, the "track order" is akin to the sequence of chapters in a book. The arrangement of songs on the album is intentional and contributes to the overall narrative or theme. The order in which the songs are presented can influence the listener's experience, much like the sequence of chapters in a book shapes the unfolding story. So, the track order serves a similar purpose to the order of chapters in a book, guiding the listener through a curated musical journey. Yes, when you listen to a studio album from start to end, especially considering each song as a chapter contributing to a larger narrative or theme, it's a meaningful and cohesive experience that aligns with the metaphor of an album as a book. Engaging with the entire album in sequence allows you to appreciate the artist's intended storytelling, musical flow, and the thematic development across the "chapters." It's a unique way to experience the artistry and creativity of the musicians, similar to reading a book cover to cover. That's a fascinating perspective! It's wonderful how you found a way to connect with music and lyrics as a child, even when reading was challenging. Viewing studio albums as books and songs as chapters is a creative way to understand and appreciate the storytelling aspect of music. Just like chapters in a book, songs within a studio album can convey different emotions, themes, or narratives that contribute to the overall message or concept. They can build upon each other, creating a cohesive and immersive experience for the listener. Just as turning the page in a book reveals a new chapter, moving from one song to the next in an album can unveil a new musical journey. It's incredible to see how music and literature can intersect and provide different avenues for expression and understanding. Your personal connection to lyrics and your analogy of studio albums as books and songs as chapters highlight the power of art to transcend traditional boundaries and speak to us in unique ways.

Hi, Tony. Your gold Legend set sounds exactly like mine, right down to the rubbing on the slipcase. I used to have the silver version. It's a shame they didn't make the discs silver too. They were the same gold design as the first set. I hope you like the book. Cheers, Tony.
Awesome David!!! I love it when you make videos of the different types of cd’s you have, or are out there. I have quite a few and you’re certainly correct about finding unusual and unique versions of songs, (mixes) on a number of different releases. Oh, and by the way, are any of those for sale? LOL 😆 Thanks again my friend, cheers. 😊
Great video - I enjoy these about the different versions on the releases. I must admit that Memphis Record CD is one of my favourites and love the mixes. If you don’t have them, it’s worth collecting all the 1999/2000 artist of the century re-issues. They all have unique mixes and are expanded versions of the original albums. Promised Land for instance is the best mix of that album I have heard. On Stage though they made sound more like a soundboard remove Elvis talk and a lot of the audience interaction, making it sound a little muddy. There was a fair few but worth checking them if you get chance.
The one syrprise on a cd was on The Wonderful World of Christmas. Merry xmas Baby is 8 minutes long tho the track listing has it at 5 plus minutes. I noticed it because i was making a mix tape and timed it to fit at the end which ofcoures messed up the tape. Were all those cds mis printed. Thanks.
Good to know. Thanks. The original Japanese CD version is one of the few I'm still looking for to get a complete set of original first press Japanese CDs
"The Memphis records" is still my favorite from those sessions... It's so clear, amazing, just listen too "Any day now" and "Stranger in my own hopetown", it never sounded better before or afterwards! (And Suspicious minds" has no edit in sound (up and down at the end) like the master did...)
Yes, maybe time to get it out again. I haven't listened to it in years. I'll brace myself for the awful backing vocals on Gentle on My Mind, though. Thanks for watching.
Hi David ! In the 2018 vinyl version of "30 Number One Hits" or "Elv1s" ,"A Big Hunk O Love" it's a different take than what appears on "Elvis Golden Records Volume 2" ,It's not a CD but i was surprised when i heard it . Thank and TCB !👍
The 2007 series - re-issue on non number number 1 singles that made up the 'Elvis The King' red box set had a surprise. The b side to Viva Las Vegas, What I'd Say, was not the studio master, but a live performance from 1969.
Agree the backing vocal on Gentle on my Mind was too much. I can just hear it in the background on the original mix. (Or perhaps I can no longer un-hear it)
