Original Pro Staff was introduced in advertising by Jimmy Connors -- "designed with the help of Jimmy Connors" -- you can find the commercials on TH-cam. Connors used it for a while in 1984 and '85 I believe before switching back to the T-2000 in '86.
I was thinking about this, and how the Pro Staff is so differently balanced that the T-2000, there is probably no way to customize the Prostaff to the same balance/SW as the T-2000. No wonder Connors didn't like it.
I had a incredible mesmerizing moment as Pro Staff/Jack Kramer racquet fan. A sturdy stout athletic medium tall woman walked by me with a black thin beamed racquet. I gasped and asked if I could look at her racquet. She agreed! She was a bit surprised as I marveled at the craftsmanship of the 110 sq inch Jack Kramer 17mm heavy but head light nice swinging racquet. It was given to her by a relative so she could play recreational tennis. I've never seen the smaller Graphite Jack Kramer in person. But, I did get to hit with one of the few original leftover 6.0 95 sq inch classic racquets. I like it a lot.
Harry, What qualities of the BLX 90 frame gave it the longest dwell time than the other frame versions? This week I played with the Most recent Pro Staff 90 BLX with Amplifeel tech. It had a full bed of Luxilon Alu Power rough at 56 pounds of tension and it swung great on groundies with terrific feel at the net. I would go 1 or two pounds less to dial in the strings. Yet, I had a great experience the racquet.

@V_ L I always used smaller, thin beamed, midsized racquets. I loved how they felt in my hand, in motion, and the bend in the frame upon impact. With those 6.0 85 and 90, you played in the moment, everything comes natural. As good and potent as the current RF97, I can't help but to associate it as nothing more than a tool of today's game.
You missed the Pro Staff Classic that Edberg had his 85 painted like. It was 95 and had the PWS - one of the true greats and became what the pro stock is today more or less. Also missed the Pro Staff Dual Taper series - 4.5, 5.5, and 6.1. These were used by all the juniors in the early 90s. With these we’re just following Pete and Roger…
agree that it would be nice to see an extended version showing the full range of Pro Staff, particularly during its dominant era during the mid 90s, covering its junior variations like the ones @Justin Haught mentions... some of which (like the 6.1) being used by some Tour Players. I also remember a purple 7.5, which I believe was intended for women, although I may be wrong. In summary, a more complete Pro Staff History video would be very welcome!
Whats the softest buttery type feel frame of the line between the tour 90s. I have rf97 v11 and v12 and wanted to buy something different in the prostaff line with 90sq inch
Tennis spin we find one of the most improved upon racquet is the Wilson pro staff frame, by installing the XTP Xtended Tennis Product butt cap you can stretch this classic frame from s standard size 27 inches long to 27.5 by simply removing the factory butt cap and installing the XTP butt cap making it a XL version of itself. I've had 4 gen of PS90. The Tour one is slightly softer and sweet feel, while K factor one is the stiffest, heaviest, and most powerful of all, matching the evolving playing style of Fed. Blk and White BLX are basically the same and lower swing weight, but seems with less feel
So Alan, the dwell Time he speaks of for the K Frame is made greater by it's stiffer frame that lets the ball go deeper into the string bed without racquet head flex. Did you find that the case with the difference between the frames?

My question is, what other Wilson similar frame models like the Wilson Pro Comp&Wilson graphite Matrix(albeit a different graphite carbon mix)were made in the St. Vincent plant?
Different racquets if you are comparing the wooden ones. Vitas Gerulaitis and Tracy Austin used the Kramer Autograph, John McEnroe was the most notable to use the Pro Staff Kramer.
Which one is used by Steffi? The one that saved me from giving up Tennis. I gave mine away long time ago but asking myself which actual one is the most close to it.
That's right. I totally forgot she switched to Wilson after using the Dunlop for so many years. I remember her first one was mostly white with airbrush colors in it or something of that nature.
I still have my wood Jack Kramer Autograph from 1975. The Jack Kramer Pro Staff was more expensive and I couldn't afford it. My friend had one and I hit with it once.
I had a Pro Staff "Largehead" and did not know if it was a 110 or a 125 because it only said "Largehead" on the racquet frame.😆. It was near 13oz with string, overgrip and a worm dampener.
You didn't mention the Wilson Sting was the mold style for the PS 6.0 85. To me a close frame type of the Dunlop Black Max. But the PS 6.0 85 was stiffer.

Also, you can ONLY string it with either premium multifilament or GUT to bring out the Essence of the sticks!!!!! And either string it yourself to cut down on cost or have deep pockets!!!
@@garyhilson7220 Do you remember the Black Max having a open pattern and a closed string pattern? I may trade to get another black max from a friend which has retired it to the back of the closet. I agree on the expense of the old 90's and new 97LS, 97V13 racquets. Additionally, the strings and string installation are through the roof. Yet, tennis and biking are my only vises. I just dragged out my PS NCODE 90 to get restrung. It has very worn loose Babolot Hurricane strings for outdoor Fall/Winter weather. It gets a soft copoly hybrid with multifiber for the Spring. The last version PS 90 BLX with Amplifeel is my favorite Fed 90 I own. According to a knowledgeble Wilson guru, the last BLX Amplifeel is more like the 85 Federer racquet than any stick. I was shocked to hear that news. My BLX has luxilon Alu Power. I also agree that it might play better with GUT, a multifiber, a hybrid or a soft co poly. I am lucky to have a stringing connection. However, it can be a expensive hobby/sport. I know a guy that knows a guy.☺️ I must confess, I handled a St Vincent 85 but did not play with it. Nor did I play with the 90TOUR which Federer made famous. But, I have played much with the Federer 97V13 and the lighter version. They are fun to ground stroke and volley balls. I heard 2 interesting comments from vloggers. The self proclaimed tennis nerd said the KFactor 90 was the closest thing to the ProStockTour 90 Federer used for a dominant number of his years of playing prior to switching to the 97. Yet, the Wilson guru said the NCODE string bed was more like the Tour 90 Federer used after the 85sq inch. Additionally, the guru guy said the KFactor90 had a more open string pattern than 90 hoops which preceded the K 90 model. 🧐🤔 Those are conflicting stories. 😮😕🧐
So I had no idea that Wilson made a bigger Prostaff during the time of the famed 85. I am just so surprised by the sheer size of the frame and it is sitting at a player spec of around 12 ounces. The Prostaff 125 looks crazy with that huge headsize. Has anyone actually tried this frame? I am so curious to hunt one down and try it.
Ha, I have the very old 6.0 graphite carbon black with yellow&red striping Pro Staff 110 sq inch. The graphics on it say Large Head. I recently strung it up with Technifiber X1 Biophase. And, it is in very good condition and plays great. I've never seen the 125 version. But, there a few out there lying around. 😮 The lighter red&white remake 6.1 version was popular.
@@bowsershark And I did not know the 6.0 came in a 110 size either. I saw the 125 on Ebay. It looks like you could not miss with it. I do not know anymore about it from there.

i found a mint i mean mint not a scratch jack kramer pro staff the one McEnroe used at Wimbledon from the salvation army last week. wooden beautiful gorgeous original gut strings. 5 bucks.
The original Jack Kramer Pro Staff wood was used most famously by John McEnroe before he went to Dunlop Maxply Fort frames and later the Dunlop Maxply McEnroe. The Maxply McEnroe was a stiffer version of the Maxply and felt much more like the Wilson to me. There were rumors at the time that his Maxply always had an extra layer or two and the McEnroe version was the one he had always played. The original Maxply was one of the softest racquets l ever hit with and l much preferred the McEnroe version. Chrissie Evert and John were two of the last wood players and switched to the larger frames and won titles with those as well. John with the iconic Dunlop 200g and Chrissie with the first non wood pro staff. It is a very small list of players that won a grand slam with a standard sized racquet and an oversize. Navratilova comes to mind on the womens side and Lendl and possibly Connors.
Pro Staff is really just a brand , and has been used since the wood racquet days. They varied hugely, e.g .the Pro Staff Rok which I loved was fragile and quite flexible. some were quite mediocre,
Hasn’t the original PS85 won more grand slams than any other racket? Off the top of my head… Stefan Edberg (the 95 too!?), Mary Pierce, Jim Courier, Pete Sampras, and …? Discuss…
Great video. Good work with calling the first rf97 as the best. That racquet has gone steadily downhill since. The Matt black is a disaster and doesn't play anything like the red and black.
I feel all 90 no one better than 85. I played 85 18 years. Every time when I switch to 90 I feel uncomfortable. Also 97 is big springs bed no feel nothing at all.
Wilson needs more cans of paint. Why not have multiple color options per year/model? When you go to a car dealership they don't tell you this years model is available in Red only. Seems like a billion dollar company would have figured that out 😅

Also, you can ONLY string it with either premium multifilament or GUT to bring out the Essence of the sticks!!!!! And either string it yourself to cut down on cost or have deep pockets!!!
@@garyhilson7220
Do you remember the Black Max having a open pattern and a closed string pattern?
The pro staff that I keep near and dear to my heart is the hyper pro staff 6.5 🔥🔥🔥
The Hyper Carbon one? If so, I also loved it, and I've played a lot of Pro Staffs.
@Stig Carlsson the current pro staff-lays very close to that iteration of the pro staff.
The lighter red&white remake 6.1 version was popular.
@@bowsershark And I did not know the 6.0 came in a 110 size either. I saw the 125 on Ebay. It looks like you could not miss with it. I do not know anymore about it from there.
B. LAKEBERG
Ha, my 6.0 pro staff 110 is 12.2-12.6 oz. That 125 head must be heavier than my stick😮.
@@b.lakeberg7456
Yes, I saw a 125 pro staff on ebay. It has a very unique construction. I was not interested in getting one. I am still loving how my 110 plays with a nice multifiber string.
The plow through on ground strokes feels soooo good. And, as a better than average volley person, I'm in heaven at the net punching vollies.
I prefer the 2014 90 that fed never used as well as the nCode 90, was more head light and comfortable for some reason. I didnt like the BLX era ones as much felt too stiff.
Agreed with you that the 2014 version technically played the best (to me at least). But the black/red BLX gave me the longest dwell time, and that felt special to me.
If a racket comes with a leather grip it means its a good racket XD
It may be good but it may not be good for everyone.
The wood Pro Staff had three diamonds on the shaft? Didn’t McEnroe hit with one for a while?
Pro Staff 85 6.6 Jim Courier is ❤️❤️❤️
Your missing out alot of pro staff racquets man.

Your welcome! 😄
I wish I could keep up with all of it.
My welcome? Oh, you mean "you're welcome".
You're welcome : )
I had one called zone 6.5 do you have info about this racket? I would like to know how it was the racket I was playing when I was a teen.
@@Fred_P lol its a tennis channel not a spelling/english class 😂
Does the Ceramic Staff count as a pro staff? Afterall it's 8% ceramic.
It would have not been cost feasible to just make racquets for Pete in the St. Vincent plant. It just doesn't make sense for the Taiwan plant to make racquets for the general public while the st. Vincent plant just made racquets for Sampres.
i found a mint i mean mint not a scratch jack kramer pro staff the one McEnroe used at Wimbledon from the salvation army last week. wooden beautiful gorgeous original gut strings. 5 bucks.
If I could find the pro staff 6.0 95 to buy, that would be my choice of racquet to play right now.
I missed a opportunity to get one. I blew it! 😒
I have a Kramer pro staff
They varied hugely, e.g .the Pro Staff Rok which I loved was fragile and quite flexible. some were quite mediocre,
Woaaa Woaaaa Woaaa Can not understand him at all with his mask on
The 95 was a disaster. 88 came out after Pete retired. 90 was great. 85 was legend.
But, I liked the 95 6.0.😊
Hasn’t the original PS85 won more grand slams than any other racket?
Off the top of my head…
Stefan Edberg (the 95 too!?), Mary Pierce, Jim Courier, Pete Sampras, and …?
Discuss…
Great video. Good work with calling the first rf97 as the best. That racquet has gone steadily downhill since. The Matt black is a disaster and doesn't play anything like the red and black.
It’s the same racquet, any differences are due to Wilson QC issues...
Paint makes a difference
@@timothybaker6596 not to the extreme that most people would ever be able to notice.
Yes, agreed
Its sad that the BLX and Six One line its out of stock
I feel all 90 no one better than 85. I played 85 18 years. Every time when I switch to 90 I feel uncomfortable. Also 97 is big springs bed no feel nothing at all.
I actually hated the RF97. It felt clunky and also the vibration felt really off putting
Wilson needs more cans of paint. Why not have multiple color options per year/model? When you go to a car dealership they don't tell you this years model is available in Red only. Seems like a billion dollar company would have figured that out 😅
That is Coach Andrew Gu who disguised by a mask.
Are you sure about that? 😉
It would be good to re-record this with a voice over. Mask is muffling the sound almost completely.
Where are my 1.75 playback speed squad?
Sound from Corona mask so unclear. Can't understand 😪
I have a PS 88, IF you can hit the sweet spot consistently, it goes like a ROCKET man.
hard to understand that guy with the mask
People will be kicking themselves in few weeks if they miss the opportunity to buy and invest in bitcoin
Bitcoin is the future, investing in it now will be the wisest thing to do especially this high rise
Yeah Indeed it's very profitable!
For real bitcoin is a collection of opportunities?
Please how does this whole bitcoin thing work? I'm interested and ready to invest in but I'm gonna need assistance from any productive and reliable professional.
Wow, so surprised you mentioned and recommended Edward Morris I thought people don't know him, he's good at what he does
1. Lose the mask. If he’s not vaccinated then just distance six feet.
2. I know St. Vincent was in The Bahamas but does most of your audience?
3. You need a two-camera shoot. A close-up now and again wouldn’t hurt.
Shut up
2. St. Vincent island is in the county of St Vincent and the Grenadines not the Bahamas.
If you're gonna do a podcast with a mask, better have a mic inside your mask -- the guy's muffled voice was annoyingly difficult to understand, just gave up on watching.
Rubbish video how is this the history of pro staff when you missed out many versions????

Ahahahahahahaha they’re so clueless 🤣
Whats with the mask?
I have immunocompromised individuals in my circle that I need to be mindful of. That's what's up with my mask.

The hat and mask doesnt fit and ur speech is muffled.
