just taking a second to appreciate that most of the facial acting in this was in her eyes. she brought so much life to wednesday and this dance with just her eyes. what angle she was looking at, whether she seemed interested or disinterested in what she was looking at, how wide open her eyes were, where they were looking in relation to the camera..
The eyes are really what takes this to the next level. I just can't look away. She's not just captivating. I am left totally transfixed. If she was a vampire I'd be toast.
This scene is so spectacular and the actress really makes the essence of Wednesday shine. It's insane, I feel like this is exactly the way Wednesday would move and the moves were almost mesmerizing, like she was animated. such an amazing job overall

She also does some of her father's tango moves. My personal favourite bit is her tapping his shoulder and just looking at him slightly tilted. It's juat so smooth. A brilliant performance.
@@nanyunie Ricci Wednesday was easier to play IMO. A young child being dark can be brushed off as acting out for attention so it was easier for her to just do or say whatever she wanted. In Netflix show she is 16 there is more of a dynamic there. Mostly she is maturing as a person. She can't be that dark little girl anymore atleast not in the same way. I think Jenna did a great job.
So many little iconic tips of the hat packed into one minute of dance. I'm impressed by her transitions from one to another, linear to vertical movements, mechanical to flowing, changing pace and mood with playful and horror tones, while maintaining really steady and intense eye acting. Resetting her position by dropping back into the 'Wednesday walk' and then flipping back into the dance is hilarious, just for that little moment of awkwardness. But the best thing is the contrast with EVERY OTHER STUDENT. Look at the rest of the students dance in the background. Wednesday is BY FAR the most animated and fun thing at the party, which is in direct contrast to what you'd expect of Wednesday, yet all that fun is nods to Goth and horror dances. Fantastically thought out and executed. Kudos to Jenna and the team.
They were llke "We are going to make this so awkward that no one will be able to look" and then it was so well executed that we all watched it twice. Very odd and well done.
A) her ability to keep a straight face and the moves flowing together perfectly make this, and 2) the brief shoutout to the original Wednesday dance: heart eyes.
For sure she knew. Almost all tik tok trends are marketing campaigns. Influencers paid by some sponsor always initiate, and the others copy. Often even memes are marketing campaigns, like it's morbin' time
Except it isn't. It is not remotely hard to show zero emotion. She doesn't even do that with the subtle nuances that Christina Ricci did. This broad is not Wednesday.
she is so weird and cool. i cannot wrap my head around who she is. she is kinda one dimensional while at the same time so multidimensional. she made this show what it was.. it was resting on her shoulders and she carried the whole show so well 💜
She maintains the generally flat facial expressions, but with intensity. She doesn't fully give anything away, but there's hints. Absolutely phenomenal job.
Dude she killed this scene! I wish they would've made it a lil longer and showed more of them moves! They really picked the perfect person for this role, Jenna's acting is spot on.
She played this part exceptionally. I watched this nonstop I could not turn it off until it was over. Hoping there is a sequel. Well done to the cast members and Tim Burton
This dance scene is so artistic. I like how she instantly switches movements from the mechanical to the flowing and graceful. The "Mars Attacks!" walk was great too. This is some architectural grade choreography. Funny how a dance scene can be one of the best scenes in the series, which altogether is very good. Ortega killed it.
She choreographed the whole dance scene and in an interview said it clearly shows she knows nothing about dance or choreography. That’s why it’s so good.
Fits her personality perfectly. Glad she is not a carbon copy of her mom. She is uniquely her own. Happy that the writers kept with the Wednesday of the 90s movies and built on her.
I personally found it kind of cringy the way she had her vision..and nothing regarding acting but the scene of the victim getting killed while he was loading his camera and hook surprise it takes monster's pictures.. ha....no....
@@ango3185 What's cringy abt it? Lol She's weird and creepy and it's exactly how she would have a vision, in an weird and creepy way. Besides all of Tim Burton's movies are creepy and hilarious at the same time.

I like how the headteacher smiles when she sees Wednesday dancing, maybe it's just a smile of victory that this difficult girl is co operating and getting into the spirit of the school dance, but I think it's a nice moment, she genuinely wants Wednesday to fit in and be happy
Gwendoline Christie is so spectacular in the role! The way she balanced the emotions from her own history with Wednesday's parents as a teenager with her growing concern and protectiveness for Wednesday was just *chef's kiss*. Absolutely spectacular! Everyone who's been a teacher was able to empathize with her character's arc, and she created such a classically fascinating figure in Principal Weems, I wouldn't be surprised if she were nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Emmy. (I feel she should be!) She brought restrained, delicate acting on par with Bette Davis, with a statuesque, elegant presence like an updated, even taller Ingrid Bergman and finished it all off with a biting wit reminiscent of Rosalind Russell, all to a central figure around which a first season of a show could orbit. A principal must be the central executive of a school, and a high school principal must be emotionally present and available on the terms her students need her, especially for teenagers who aren't in the best place with their own parents. Somehow, Miss Christie managed to understand the assignment with such skill, such craft, that my daughter and I, watching her performance, were genuinely worried not just for Wednesday, but for all the students of Nevermore. When your audience is overcome to the point of needing the pause button, THAT is ACTING. I am so looking forward to Jenna Ortega's future career, knowing she's gotten to work with dramatic and comedic powerhouses like Miss Christie and learn from them as she develops her craft. And I would so like to see them work together again! Disney could remake 'The Trouble With Angels' on a small budget with Miss Christie in the Rosalind Russell role, Miss Ortega in the Hayley Mills role, and effectively 'keep the band together' as all the young women from 'Wednesday' and several more experienced actresses did a girls-school, non-supernatural story, mostly for the fun of it and the challenge of creating a period piece with modern sensibilities. Such a film might be an ideal choice for Miss Christina Ricci to direct, don't you think?
I love the fact that she's a little bit of Morticia (aloof in a regal kind of way, and sultry in a quiet, hypnotic way) and a little bit of Gomez (fiery, mad, passionate, Latin!) combined 😅❤️
Despite her stoic nature it actually made a lot of sense to add this dance number in. I think this scene alone was truly illustrative of her character - the free minded individualism expressed in the social setting of conformity.
Yep, hopefully now people will understand that "individualism" is about respecting your own self, but its not the same as being selfish. Wednesday is such a great character cuz she doesnt bother with other people's opinions on herself, she's just confident in who she is.
She’s definitely rocking this dance and acting. Her dance is hilarious but at the same time serious and also has this alluring hypnotizing gaze that just makes you not understand how to feel about this 😂
This is already going down as an iconic scene in TV history! The fact that she choreographed this herself is beyond impressive. AND finding out that she was sick while filming this, which later was discovered that she had COVID, just shows her amazing commitment to the role. I see a very bright future for her. Bravo!!! 🖤
What I love about this dance is you KNOW that the child of Morticia and Gomez Addams will know how to dance. They probably taught her to dance about an hour after she learned to walk, knowing those two. So she knows how to dance like a star, but still chooses to do the dance HER way, where she's not dancing with a partner, she's glaring AT a partner while she dances in her own unique way.
@@roadflame7772 they're not referring about Jenna Ortega herself, but they're talking about Wednesday. Morticia and Gomez always dance together, so they probably taught Wednesday how to dance
Nah theyd get distracted going “oh gomez remember dancing in the catacombs of italy?” Or some shit and Wednesday would be staring like “🧍🏻 again these two make it abt them” and the teacher watches them dance flawlessly and with a giant flare of love and is in total awe while Wednesday goes off to play mortician and cadaver w her brother or something
What I love so much about this dance is it's incredibly weird, but doesn't look awkward with Wednesday. She somehow makes it work. And it's also awesome because she's being herself and having fun and not caring if others think her dance is bizarre.
@@Kristobliss I was not talking about the actress. This was clearly an analysis of Wednesday. 🙂🙂 She is putting herself out there and trying to enjoy the party like the rest of the students, but is doing so in her own strange way. I think she perfectly embodied the character of Wednesday and fully delivered the performance. The dance in this video also suits the role of Wednesday so well.
and it fits the music perfectly. It's a weird dance, but on point for the song and a very Addams way of expressing yourself. Ortega was agood choice for Wednesday. Especially after Ricci.
Dont forget that the óriginal actress of Wendesday Addams from the Movies: Christina Ricci is also one of the castmembers of this series! Very clever hire from the Producers to get hér in, to help Jenna Ortega léarn her character!
She killed this! What an amazing performance. And the choice of The Cramps as the soundtrack is perfect. I can watch this over and over and still get chills.
The Cramps are the ultimate freak music- Wednesday really did this song justice! It's a great rendition of how she would have danced, right out of the 1960s show. I Love Ortegaaaaa, such a great portrayal!
I gotta say, Tim Burton really did a GREAT job putting all of Wednesday's special characteristics into one. She's an oddball in everyone's eye, but a truly charming one as well, stealing every attention at any moment. And, the best thing was, she refused to be anyone but herself. She remains true to who she was instead of becoming what everyone expected her to be. Also, she still changes into the better version of herself as she slowly widening her worldview.
I loved every single outfit Wednesday wore in this series! Everything she did was iconic and amazing!!!! The show did justice to Wednesday's character and Jenna Ortega is one of the best actresses in this generation!

@@nanyunie Ricci Wednesday was easier to play IMO. A young child being dark can be brushed off as acting out for attention so it was easier for her to just do or say whatever she wanted.

My thoughts exactly when i saw this too
Was JUST thinking that 😎
I like how the headteacher smiles when she sees Wednesday dancing, maybe it's just a smile of victory that this difficult girl is co operating and getting into the spirit of the school dance, but I think it's a nice moment, she genuinely wants Wednesday to fit in and be happy
I hope they revive her somehow
Same here😅😀❤️
My take was that she can't help but be impressed by Wednesdays individuality and she respects her always doing things her way
