@@toddellis3089 hey thanks for getting back to me. I kind of settled on these and now I can’t find one in stock anywhere! Like the guy says in the princess bride, life is pain
I have had my box set for 5 years now! I added a few of the clear top storage organizers as well. I'm not a contractor but rather do side jobs and DIY type stuff. For this type of work these boxes are the deal! Best bang for the buck and from what I can see is wide open for aftermarket mods. I modded the tool box with an custom insert so all of my hand tools stand up straight! As soon as I open the lid I can see exactly what I'm looking for or what's missing. I made it so it's removable so if I need to change it up it's not an issue. The only thing I wish Ridgid would change/make is a bottom box that is a wet/dry vac that will latch all of the other boxes to it and make the handle wider and further away from the rear of the box.
I have the ridgid and the Milwaukee packout. The Milwaukee deffently has a nice over all fit and finish but I feel that the ridgid will last longer and hold up to more abuse. So I use the ridgid for my first in and always take out of my car box while the Milwaukee I just keep in my car to store my tools and take Out when I need to. Plus the ridgid overall is about a 1/3 the price. I really like the ridgid and I'm a Milwaukee fan boy. Now one thing I did was take the top off of the middle size box with the handle in top and switched it to the small box. Since I always need the little box and I can just attach what ever boxes I need to it. Works like a champ and wonder why ridgid didn't do that in the first place.
You could always cut some aluminum bar stock of the right width and thickness and make a custom lock-bar of the correct length: bend a hook or thumb loop at the top. Hit it up with some truck liner spray paint or just regular rust protection paint
Great review. I have 2 of the smaller cases, and they are really solid. I can put a Ryobi recip. saw, blades , 1 or 2 of the small containers, and a battery in one box. I agree about the latches. They seem superior to the Dewalt. The only complaint I have heard, is that they are brittle and parts can crack or break off if dropped in very cold weather. For me that is very unlikely. Also, at about half the price of Dewalt or Milwaukee, they're a bargain.
Yea to warm in southern California for me to test being cold....im sure other boxes will be even worse if thats the case because i feel these will hold up to elements much better. Mine have sat in sun all day everyday were they are stored for 2 years now. Other then 1 handle has faded color the rest is like new
Nice review of what looks like a good set. Thanks for keeping it brief. My only concern is the wheels. I doubt they will hold up. If I get one of these sets I would plan to install better wheels.
The plastic in the lid of the small box can be removed to give you an additional inch and a quarter of inside space. The orange tubs are no longer covered though. The other piece of plastic you can remove is the plastic cover over the wheels of the wheeled case once a gain giving you a little more internal space.
Thanks for the review! Planning to buy this set for my BF for Xmas. Obviously I cant ask him if it will be a good product or not lol.. Enjoyed your review greatly!
The system I bought into - I'm into Milwaukee but thought their system was a bit pricey & didn't really impress me with durability. Got some of that kaizen foam to make padded inserts - works great.
The milwaukee packout system is retarded sturdy and durable compared to other boxes (and i have this same rigid box i just have worked with guys with the milwaukee packouts and used them first hands) the milwaukee is worth every penny i just cant justify spending that much on a tool box at this moment in time
@@banehogs5589 the only problem I really had with the packout was availability (at the time). the Depot I shop at never seemed to have all the pieces (same for DeWalt), but always had plenty of Ridgid... so...
For me, to maximize space in the rigid case, I took the top panel out since I don't use those "cup" thingys and you get another inch and a half of total space.

Kewdo is right about Milwaukee and Dewalt having having more assortment choices, but for the price, I don't think Milwaukee is versatile enough for some of us and Dewalt doesn't seem as durable as Ridgid. Except Husky and Bosh (which is smaller and is expensive too), both are not as versatile as Dewalt I don't know of other brands to compare with

Is there any way to lock just one box? I see the holes in the latches, but I haven't found a lock small enough to fit into the hole that's stronger than tissue paper. Major design flaw IMHO.
extx hi you can make the hole they have in the box a little bigger to fit a lock or make a hole somewhere else to lock it. Or use a thick wire and lock. Not a deal breaker though. Many boxes out there do not even have a hole at all or a way to lock it especially at the great price these come at.
I did find a couple of wimpy locks to fit the latches but I also rigged up an additional locking system on the front of the middle-sized box involving two, 1-1/2 inch, D-shaped anchor points held on by 1/4 inch carriage bolts; one on the lid and and one on the box body. I sealed the holes with silicone. I use a heavy-duty, long-shank padlock to hold the two anchor points together. It also gives me the opportunity to run a heavy-duty cable through it which I can then affix to something heavy for additional security. I am working on a similar system for the largest box in the set.
Love the Rigid...it can definitely compete with Milwaukee Pack out..only downside was the lid on the wheeled dolly has to be totally removed...a definate deal breaker
toyo 250 its actually nice when you take the box on top of it of with the lid of the bottom box attached and set it next to it and the box on top of the lid just flips open
I just bought this tool storage system. And one of the selling points that had me going with RIDGID over milwalkie or dewalt was the fact the lid came off the bottom box. Because if you have it all staked up two or three boxes high and need instant excess to the bottom box. You just leave the stack attached and unlatch the bottom box's two side lid buckles and pick up the whole stack and the lid stays attached to stack. Giving you instant excess to the lower box content with out having to remove each individual box on the stack by its self. Picking up what I'm putting down?
You should put the two smaller ones in the middle and the medium on top that way you can use that top handle to wheel it around without smashing your hand.
Jlui83 not really sure. The box itself can hold more then 65lbs but i would be concerned about the wheels. I do not put anything heavy in mine. You could always return it if the wheels break off.
