This is an extremely usable tutorial and so beautifully shot. Really good work! I looked at a lot of videos but really liked the close up shots in this one.
I used your lovely tutorial back in January to make a basket using some needles I found from broken pine branches here in Ontario Canada, and now spring is here, I have gathered some old brown needles to make a second! So then I will have a green basket and a brown one 😁 I loved the process so much. Thank you for sharing your tutorial!
I live in South Africa, here where I live we have many beautiful pine's. My girlfriend is in China at the moment and yesterday I said to her, "I wonder if you can make basket's from wild iris leaves" and then pop up on my feed. Really enjoyed the simplicity in how you made your pine needle basket.
TH-cam must've been listening in on your conversation 😆 but thank you so much for watching. Perhaps you should try making a basket from those pines in Africa? I'm sure they are beautiful as well.
I had watched quite a few videos on this, before I stumbled upon your video and I must say that I learned more from just watching you than I did from all the jabbering in the others! Very well done!
I love the videos quality is general. You deserve so many more subscribers!!! I live in a place where the timber industry is big so the ground is completely covered sometimes.
@@DustTheNation just pine needles, but I was thinking of incorporating some horse hair in my next one,and I was even looking at the bailing twine on the hay, which usually just gets thrown away, and thinking,"I could make a basket out of that too!"The possibilities are endless!

Maybe try not to soak the needles as long next time or even try to only slightly dampen them. It seems that if they hold too much moisture, it'll cause a big difference in basket size when they dry. If the needles you're using don't break when weaving, then you could probably even skip the soaking step to avoid this from happening.
That should be totally fine! Just make sure they are dried out completely and store them in a cool, dry area so that they don't grow mold or mildew until you're ready to use. Then soak before you start your project and you should be set to go.
If you collect green pine needles, you should let them dry in the sun first. Otherwise, if you weave with green needles, the basket threading will loosen up once the pine needles dry and that'll ruin all your hard work.
You can certainly make a larger basket. It all depends on how wide you make the base of your coil and if you decide to widen your basket. As for weight, I'm not too sure if it could hold very much weight. My guess would be that it can't hold very much weight, given how brittle the needles can become after drying.
I don't understand how to get the thread lined up in such a way. I tried and I ended up covering most of my basket in the yarn I was using. 😭 Plz help my creation is ugly lmfaoo.
I love how people are getting prepared for 2021. So great.
Always gotta be ready! :)
Gotta learn some survival skills before the apocalypse/next American civil war.

Beautiful basket? Tnank you for sharing.
your content was amazing and thorough.
So amazing💕 + I would need/suggest a thimble to push through the beginning part, my fingers aren’t tough enough and it looks thick
Agreed! I didn't have one to use but it definitely would have been helpful.
A thimble from one side and a pair of pliers for the other! I am the first to admit that I am a wimp!
You can dye pine needles. There are some tutorials on TH-cam.
That definitely would add more flair!

Sounds like you've got a bunch of great ideas! Maybe you'll just have to make a video of your own as well. 😊
Good job 👏. Try to put the broken pin needle inside the gage and cover it by a longer one .

Excellent video. What kind of thread did you use? Thank you.
You've inspired me to make a couple of baskets, your tutorial is awesome!!!
Very clear video 👌🧡 so helpful 🥰
Thank you! Glad to hear you found it to be helpful.
This is beautiful! How long does it take to make a basket? I'm trying to figure out if I have enough patience :)
Thanks so much! It took a span of 3-4 days working on it for a few hours each day. Once you get into the zone, it's very relaxing.
After the basket is made and the needles begin to dry, what happens? Does the basket seem to shrink or change at all? It’s so beautiful!
What other crafts do you like to make using natural materials?
I'm making a 108 bead MALA with lava rock. And that's about it for my craftiness!
Those are pretty neat!
Also, you can put some essential oil on it for aromatherapy.
I'm using concentrated patchouli. One of my favorite besides Birchwood and eucalyptus.
very nice
So cute
thanks for sharing.
Thank YOU for watching!
You use wet needles. How do you account for shrinkage? What kind of thread are you using?
Enjoyable!
Thank you!
Is that a special size straw, like extra wide?
Just a standard sized straw like one you would get at a fast food joint.
Like how the lid is bigger than the basket
Very nice
Thank you! ☺

@@DustTheNation when the basket dries it goes really loose how can i prevent that?

Can I use Crochet cotton thread?
hello! I have a question can I find some pine needles and save them for a while than use them?
That should be totally fine! Just make sure they are dried out completely and store them in a cool, dry area so that they don't grow mold or mildew until you're ready to use. Then soak before you start your project and you should be set to go.
What type of threads can I use and does it have to be waxed?
I have used a linnen waxed thread, but a strong nylon thread works well also, and is less expensive. 🌿
I used nylon like @Rufus Pit said. I believe that as long as the thread is heavy duty, you should be fine.
Okay thank so much! I will keep this in mind when I shop for the threads tomorrow. Thank you for the advice!
No problem! So happy to hear you're going to make a basket. Have fun! 😊
Looking at what type of thread to use ?
I used regular cotton thread used for sewing but some people like to use wax covered thread for extra durability.
How long did this take? 😱
3-4 days working on it a few hours everyday.
Can i use green pine needles?
If you collect green pine needles, you should let them dry in the sun first. Otherwise, if you weave with green needles, the basket threading will loosen up once the pine needles dry and that'll ruin all your hard work.
