Something a little different.

So this is just a short video of turning on the amateur radio and making a contact on the 21 meter band using a digital mode known as FT8 which is a very popular mode on the ham bands.
Mostly its poultry here on this channel but we do other things as well.

So this was a quick view of starting up my ham radio and laptop. With the startup complete a station in Arizona was sending a calling any station, ie CQ. I responded with a signal report. The station in Arizona replied with a signal report, then the RR73 and 73 to verify reception of the signal report and conclusion of the contact. FT8 is the mode of transmission. It is a digital mode similar to the old telephone modems you might use on your computer in the early days of internet dialup connections. The protocol is brief so it only lasts a few moments to exchange basic contact information.
