I suppose if you do it carefully enough, you could place something inside of the ring so that the blue lights will generate an effect on the SG. Imagine making a large plasma plate to place inside the ring just for making that center to look cool during prop effects? The "precise smoke" reminds me of something that Dustin (or Destin - I didn't care to check enough haha) did on SmarterEveryDay. th-cam.com/video/EVbdbVhzcM4/w-d-xo.html. The vortex resembles space folding in on itself, so if you aim enough smokelets in the center at a precise aim, you might create a similar vortex. I'll never test that out, though.

Stargate Atlantis was my most favorite tv show of all time. SG1 was a close second. I've LOVED all the SG shows and watch them to this day. BRING BACK MCAY, DAMNIT!!!!!!!

When I launched the project 10 years ago I really wanted to learn how to build this kind of set, so the love and time has been coming mostly from there ! :) I knew I needed to be realistic and not just a fan wanting a Stargate. How do I do that ? What should I learn ? How much money ? How to find this money ? Who do I need in the team if I know I can't achieve something ? Those were the biggest questions. ;)

This is absolutely stunning. If I was part of the project I would have campaigned to put in a water vapour generator and a projector to simulate the gate being on in the centre.
That's one of the ideas we had but most of the time there is way too much ambiant light to use a projector. We'll still try on a simple screen to be sure but then we may work on a led curtain :)
@@LesEnfantsdeMacGyver I've had a similar idea but using a pair of mesh curtains to project on so you can walk in through the gate between them. I believe the Belgian cosplay group had such a thing on their gate at the FACTS convention, more than 10 years ago. Looks like the actual gate is being supported by a regular circular lighting truss on the back? 6m in diameter?
@@Stoney3K There would still be too much light for the picture to be contrasted enough. An option is to ask for the venue to dim the lights around the gate but in those huge convention centers the light is just going everywhere you don't want to. x) Now about the truss it's custom made by a London Cie. We couldn't use a regular one as the section is way too large and the diameter isn't precisely the size we needed. It's actually a triangle shaped truss with an extra tube added in the inner diameter. @@LesEnfantsdeMacGyver Nice, the truss being a custom design is a really great (but expensive) idea. Do the sections store in some kind of road case for transport when disassembled? What's the weight of the entire assembly? Since it was flown off a single bar in the video, no more than a few hundred kg? Regarding the vortex, you wouldn't need a very clearly-defined picture for it to be effective, shining a pair of bright moving head spots with rotating, out-of-focus gobos on a mesh from the back is probably enough to attract attention. I've also messed with the idea of using laser projectors and a water screen for the effect, but that's far too impractical to be used effectively, let alone be mobile.
@@Stoney3K Yeah it was expensive, but the safety of the public is our main concern, we want people to step through it ans activate the rotating glyphtrack ! So we went for the right thing to do. For now we have no transport case, we'll probably go for simple aluminium carts (like, rectangles you know) as anything else would be too heavy for transportation (we're trying to avoid using giant trucks, it's not cheap to rent and we don't have the license). The full circle IS HEAVY it's actually 1 TON. It's flown of two motors in the video. :) Oh, a custom made glass gobo (or one that is quite close to the water effect) would be a nice simple idea. HA! Never thought of that one, silly me ! xD I'll seach what is existing with those tight waves as most of the glass gobos I know have quite lare waves. I love using meshes in theater, you can create such magical effects ! I once made something cool with it for Ed Sheeran during a venue (random fact). xD

SG1 was the beginning, and it looks/sounds /feels more physical with the chevrons locking.oh.and the spinning! ("I'm the general, make it spin"). Thanks ! You are correct(ish). Yep in the series we are only able to see 7 chevrons on, as two of them are under the floor and to go anywhere in one galaxy you just need 7 of them and 2 are staying off (as seen clearly on the SG-1 gate). But, dialing an 8th chevron will allow you to change galaxy (Stargate Atlantis), as for the 9th, the effect is seen in Stargate Universe. :) That being said, we modified the dial a bit and chose 9 chevrons so it would look nicer for the public eager to dial all day long. A second difference is that in the series only the chosen address is staying on when the gate opens. We went for "all glyphs on" for nicer pictures. ^^
@smokey McB You can see a few of the original team supporting us on our channel. But they didn't see it for real (for now). A some of the SGA team twitted about it, we were really pleased. :)

i got my own stargate in my aquarium, i jus happened to find it on the shelf at the store and had to buy it. it has air connector but the bubbles are too big and stir up the water too much but its still damn cool. you now need a 1:1 scale ori supergate...
It could be used for fan films I think. We'll have to ask the MGM if possible. That being said, Axanar (if you speak about this one) was more a professional production than a fan-film and we may not want to try something like that to avoid any problem. :)
that dialing sequence at the end was BADASS! Is it possible for the gate to 'dial' to different locations (ie have different symbols flash), or is it all preset? Either way, absolutely amazing work! I'm stunned, and wish I could get to see this in person!
I'm quite sure that the symbols are just acrylic panes with the symbols painted onto them and lit from behind. This was also the case with the original Atlantis Gate. You can see that, when the symbols light up in the circle during the dialing sequence, that it isn't just one symbol spinning around, but a different one in each field. In the series it was CGI when you could see only one symbol spinning around like it should be canon. You mainly see this on off world gates, because those were full CGI most of the time. They only had small portable segments built of the Pegasus gate for shots of actors standing directly in front so only part of the gate was visible.
@@Rocket_Try You are mistaken, the door of SGA used a Superglyph (facebook.com/ChildrenMacGyver/photos/a.143225845823938/1715953645217809/?type=3&theater ) on the segments put on sale we notice exactly the same form (at least at one point they had to use that). And pictures taken by a fan in the studio also shows that it was not CGI. For who is the replica SG1 transform into SGA the time of this exhibition, it is good to use panels perforate for lack of time (facebook.com/LesChildrenMacGyver/photos/a.143225845823938/1718667641613076/?type=3&theater )
Our glyphs were made with perforated plastic panels covered with printed vinyl this was you were not able to see the symbol with the light being off, only with the light on behind it. That being said, we still don't know for sure that the superglyph existed, but it seems that a few times the symboles were physically (no editing, no CGI) different on the Atlantis gate so they should've used the LED matrix system. I've got to watch the series again to see some dialing now...

You are correct(ish). Yep in the series we are only able to see 7 chevrons on, as two of them are under the floor and to go anywhere in one galaxy you just need 7 of them and 2 are staying off (as seen clearly on the SG-1 gate). But, dialing an 8th chevron will allow you to change galaxy (Stargate Atlantis), as for the 9th, the effect is seen in Stargate Universe. :)
That being said, we modified the dial a bit and chose 9 chevrons so it would look nicer for the public eager to dial all day long.
A second difference is that in the series only the chosen address is staying on when the gate opens. We went for "all glyphs on" for nicer pictures. ^^

i got my own stargate in my aquarium, i jus happened to find it on the shelf at the store and had to buy it. it has air connector but the bubbles are too big and stir up the water too much but its still damn cool.
you now need a 1:1 scale ori supergate...
You could make the holes for the air a bit thinner using what you have at hand, it may help. :)

Very nicely done. Couldn't these use this in some sort of fan film? I'm not sure what MGM are like compared CBS who treat Trek fans like shit!
It could be used for fan films I think. We'll have to ask the MGM if possible.
That being said, Axanar (if you speak about this one) was more a professional production than a fan-film and we may not want to try something like that to avoid any problem. :)

that dialing sequence at the end was BADASS! Is it possible for the gate to 'dial' to different locations (ie have different symbols flash), or is it all preset? Either way, absolutely amazing work! I'm stunned, and wish I could get to see this in person!
I'm quite sure that the symbols are just acrylic panes with the symbols painted onto them and lit from behind. This was also the case with the original Atlantis Gate. You can see that, when the symbols light up in the circle during the dialing sequence, that it isn't just one symbol spinning around, but a different one in each field. In the series it was CGI when you could see only one symbol spinning around like it should be canon. You mainly see this on off world gates, because those were full CGI most of the time. They only had small portable segments built of the Pegasus gate for shots of actors standing directly in front so only part of the gate was visible.
@@Rocket_Try You are mistaken, the door of SGA used a Superglyph (facebook.com/ChildrenMacGyver/photos/a.143225845823938/1715953645217809/?type=3&theater ) on the segments put on sale we notice exactly the same form (at least at one point they had to use that). And pictures taken by a fan in the studio also shows that it was not CGI. For who is the replica SG1 transform into SGA the time of this exhibition, it is good to use panels perforate for lack of time (facebook.com/LesChildrenMacGyver/photos/a.143225845823938/1718667641613076/?type=3&theater )
Our glyphs were made with perforated plastic panels covered with printed vinyl this was you were not able to see the symbol with the light being off, only with the light on behind it.
That being said, we still don't know for sure that the superglyph existed, but it seems that a few times the symboles were physically (no editing, no CGI) different on the Atlantis gate so they should've used the LED matrix system. I've got to watch the series again to see some dialing now...
