G82 M4 Coupe is around 1750 kg, which is around 300 kg more then E36 and around 150-200 kg more then F80. I wish we could know what exactly makes those cars so much heavier. Maybe its because of more strict safety standards.

I wish they timed a flying lap instead of a standing start. 0-60 time on the E46 of five seconds vs 3.6 seconds on the G83 which just tells me the E46 is actually faster everywhere else. Unless you're drag racing I don't really care how much faster a car is when starting from a dig.

Love this format. You guys should do the format Hot Version did a while back where you invite tuning cars to bring their demo project cars, and then you blast them around a race track and give critique on the setup and changes relative to the stock version, and have a lapboard maybe bucketed by power to weight ratio.

Great video. I don't have M-series, but I have F31 (Kombi, or as Americans say - "station wagon") with xDrive (all wheel drive system). I can tell you that it does make a difference. Going into curves with xDrive is much more fun.
Though he was beaten, this video is a testament to Will as well since Scott had to upgrade to the second last car of the range to beat him and even with the same car, the margin is not that huge. Keep in mind that Scott is a professional and then Will becomes more impressive. I'm only saying this because Will went "Why am I so slow" while watching Scott

I say you guys should change the tires to be all the same for a more equivalent comparison taking grip out of the time. Maybe a tire sponsor? Clean tire shine off of tires... can be dangerous and reduce grip a lot!
the pro driver does a tick better than the "amature" enjoyed seeing what ya can really do with these cars imo he isn't so much an amature anymore given that he's been in training for over a year doing these things for us on video.
I think the time could have been beaten in the e46. I might be biased as an owner, but I am fairly certain that car had a bit of a better launch in it. It is very impressive how fast these new BMWs are (after e92). Great video, that was a fun watch!

Did the E92 dirty with driving it sideways 😂 although I know why you would. However, I think it’s most likely due to lowering a car and stiffening the suspension as you could clearly see was the case, that doesn’t always help with overall handling. Need that subtleness to feed the power through when you’re on road tyres. From owning both and driving both on road and track I can confirm the E92 is a much more capable car than the E46, despite the weight disadvantage. This video does not properly demonstrate that.
I think E46 is the sweet spot. Got too heavy after that point as proven by the E92 time. E92 does sound amazing! But E46 sounds good too. E36 seems too soft. Stiffen it a bit and it would nearly match the E46. That softness might be welcome as a daily though.

I've had both e46 and e92. Preferred the E92 considerably. The reason the track time was slower was he kept lighting up the rear, they're very comparable in performance
shows how great the e46 is, the pinnacle of the M3s, plus the best looking, the V8 wasn't the best at all, it has more power but low down really nothing there, ive had both and the F series....this test showed how good the e46 handles with times.
Can you guys pick a car with a long history, like an M3 or something and see how much upgrading it would take for the e36 to match the current model m3/m4? and compare the prices / fun factor / built not bought satisfaction
The e46 was clearly not stock and that e36 needs a susp overhaul. A stock e36 evo and stock e46 have extremely similar performance, no way there was that big of a gap.
