The Tree Story I By Alanna Jayne McTiernan

On the boundary between my house and a neighbour sat a 70 year old fig tree. The neighbour decided to clear the block of all of their trees, and I was devastated to learn this beauty would go. I stood under it while the tree loppers readied themselves to get started, awaiting an emergency vegetation protection order. While it was successfully put in place for 3 months, the council determined it could be cut down. And so began the journey of capturing the story of the tree.
I never thought I would be as impacted as I was by the removal of this tree from the border of my property. It made me stop and awe in its beauty and the essence of all the trees I'd once passed by without much consideration.
I went and learnt about trees, I started doing conservation work and what came out of it was a positive from a negative. It created a new connection for me - how I saw the tree and all the other trees around me with fresh eyes.
I have created a philosophical film that I hope connects you to seeing trees in a new light, too.
