I could see one or two of these ships being upgraded to the singularity drive. Just to see if it was feasible to upgrade older ship designed to save on production costs from system defense fleets.
Saw "Screaming Firehawk" & immediately thought of Alex Kamal (The Expanse) when they were trying to think of a name to rename the Tachi...which the soon settled on Rocinante.
In Star Trek Starfleet Command II this was my favorite class of starship. Maneuverable with very good firepower this was one of the best ship models in-game. There was a variant built off the hull design called the Killer hawk which was in my opinion the best ship in the entire game. Powerful with a truly menacing look.
The Firehawks could be comparable to the British Lion-class battlecruisers. A significant improvement in terms of both speed and firepower for the faction that made them and proven to be quite useful in combat. As far as it goes as a Klingon Acadamy ship, a Romulan ship, and a ship with 2 separate pairs of warp nacelles, it is indeed a nice design and a fitting link between the Romulan Stormbird and the later D'deridex.
Even though it hasn't been intentional since the TOS studio models - there is some in-universe consistency in warp geometry in these ships. A Daedalus class and the klingon and Romulan designs all have the bulb at the end of a long neck. And honestly topologically - the Federation saucer is the wings of the other classes and the secondary hull is the neck.
the warp geometry graph you made is very helpful, It really highlights the unique features of these vessels and clarfyies just why some ships are faster. Good to see it being used in videos.
I am glad someone finally covered this ship it was one of my favorite ships in ka it makes a good command vessel but most of the romulan ships in ka were kinda slow glass cannons.
Well, do keep in mind. The Glenn-Class for the Federation (Section 9) was based off of Klingon Designs. Or at least originally was. You can look at the ship and see some D-9 influence in the hull with the mix of Federation design choices. So it can be said. The Klingon influenced pretty much everyone. Or traumatized their enemies and allies a like. That they end up copying ship designs to fill in gaps to combat or be in par with the Klingon Empire.
I know this isn’t exactly the place to ask for videos. But since you are back to doing Wings of Romulus (thank you, BTW. Love these and their canon to me the way you write them) - I am curious what you would do with the Romulan science ships. We know about our beloved flying explodium in the Oberth class and how Starfleet eventually militarized their science fleet with Nebulas, and with anti-Borg modernization the Nova and Luna class. What could you do with something similar like the Romulan Multi-Mission Science Warbirds from STO built to deter the Starfleet multi mission tactical/science ships like the Luna and science Nebulas before it.
The Firehawk came from the Star Fleet Battles universe just saying. It was a heavy cruiser that had a modular design to allow it to perform multiple different roles in the Romulan Fleet during the General War in that universe.
Amazing coverage of a nice design. Personally, I'm surprised you haven't covered the D'talla class Warbird since that ship was introduced in the 2290s as well (as seen in the intro of Star Trek: New Worlds game). It looks like a early design of the D'deridex but much much smaller, possibly Stormbird or Firehawk in scale. I guess, by the explanations you've given in each coverage on Romulans in this era, I could think the D'talla is a testbed for the singularity core.
In one of the slides the firehawk looks significantly bigger than the D7/Ktnga. Is it scaled to the DS9 K'tnga of 350m ish? At that size it can fit a runabout sized craft into the back its lower section AND a small shuttle craft in the back of the "head" below the neck. I always envisioned this ship as a modular type design were you "could" build it without the bottom section, or with only bottom nacelles or only top nacelles.
Oof, shade thrown at Klingon Academy? In design terms, yeah, I kind of get it - stuff like the Missouri and the other species' heavy battleships are a bit ridiculous with double hulls and numerous warp nacelles, but in terms of gameplay, holy shit it feels right. It's Trek to the core, with ship scripts that the game uses to load vessels into the game reading like technical manuals. I have super fond memories of the game.
Nova = Offensive, Firehawk = Defensive. Got it. I like how you can so seamlessly incorporate non-canon ship designs into the prime timeline as if they were canon. Speaking of the Nova class, how about you do a video on Starfleet's versions?
Well, I had a big problem with Romulan ships in the STNG era. There is a scout, and the D'Deridex. It wasn't the creator's D'Deridex. He had a good idea in mind, but rather there filled in the gaps, and instead made it a mistake that was seen in Deep space 9 and fixed it in the movies.
I have been trying to recreate this ship, using the FASA ship construction rules. But I've run into a problem every time. The Warp engines for the Nova are literally the same ones on the Winged Defender (despite clearly not being the same ones). And it is literally impossible to build a ship with four of them lighter than the Nova, and the engines alone end up being 113% of the weight. I've always felt the Z-1 and L-24 were ridiculously underpowered to make the Excelsior look better. I think I am going to invent the RWH-1, and install that on the Nova, increasing its power by 150% to give it the means to power all its weapons and shields, and match the Excelsior. Then increase the weight to the maximum for Class XIII, while the Firehawk will still be at the low end if it uses the RWG-1 like the Winged Defender.
I'd love to see more designs like these in STO. The Republic needs alot more "older" ships ti fill out the gap
I could see one or two of these ships being upgraded to the singularity drive. Just to see if it was feasible to upgrade older ship designed to save on production costs from system defense fleets.
This is a very slick looking ship 👍
I loved ship in Klingon academy and starfleet command!
Saw "Screaming Firehawk" & immediately thought of Alex Kamal (The Expanse) when they were trying to think of a name to rename the Tachi...which the soon settled on Rocinante.
Same. Absolutely the and for me too!
Luckily, Alex got to give that name to another ship later

I was never a big fan of Romulan ships until the your more recent videos but now I'm hooked. I really appreciate it.
Glad to see your a convert
Shes a beauty.

Hmm good observations
Thank God for gaming and STO for resurrecting all these good old FASA ships! Always did and still love that era. Movie era.
If only STO would adapt more fasa and armada designs
Firehawk is a StarFleet Battles design, not FASA; 4 nacelles was a classic Romulan design characteristic in that universe.
The ship models from SFC were really nice. The Firehawk was white with a Bird painted on the belly.
the warp geometry graph you made is very helpful, It really highlights the unique features of these vessels and clarfyies just why some ships are faster. Good to see it being used in videos.

Great Video - Always liked this design.
Letzzz gooo
Besides the Firehawk. The Merlin and Osprey are the only two other romulan ships from Klingon Academy that I really took to.
Interesting.

oh, i loved Klingon Academy 😁😁.
Great cutscenes too

Back when I played SFB, I liked playing the Romulan KR cruisers, which were just Klingon designs with plasma torpedoes.
I had the mods for SFC 3 and the Nova and Firehawk were in the mod. Absolutely loved them

SF battles is set during TOS and came out in the 1970s. As far as I'm aware the firehawk appears in klingon academy in 1992.
I wonder if they have 3 or 4 shifts 😁
It does remind me of Klingon design, but it also reminds me of Pre-federation Andorian warships. With it's 4 nacelles.
Amazing coverage of a nice design.

This needs to be in the STO game
last time i was this early, the NX01 was brand new 🤣🤣🤣.
The firehawk was my command ship in ka at times.

looks like the Imperium class also from Klingon Academy i think
Imperium is much bigger. And has 6 engines.

A bit like the Defiant Class in later times - in the 24th Century.
Is there a webpage that has all these video game/beta canon ships available to view?
One more thing the Firehawk used Plasma Torpedoes as it's primary weapons.
I loved this ship! Wish they made it in Star Trek Online
ROMULANS ! ARRRRGH ...
Nova = Offensive, Firehawk = Defensive. Got it. I like how you can so seamlessly incorporate non-canon ship designs into the prime timeline as if they were canon. Speaking of the Nova class, how about you do a video on Starfleet's versions?
You mean the science ship?
@@venomgeekmedia9886 Yes.

Well the firehawks nacelles are derived from the D7 stormbird. So they'd have similar characteristics.
"Intelligence reports Romulans now using Klingon design." ~ Spock; 'Star Trek' [T.O.S.], 'The Enterprise Incident'. 😉
Its like a old valdor
I take it you have issues with the Yammato Class Federation Ship.
Lil bit yeah
Just call it ROCINANTE
fellow man of culture 😎
Nice ship but the Nova the best 23third century ship
