1. Traditional Fundamentals

This lecture introduces the course with a brief overview of traditional astrology and criticisms of it; discusses the classical notion of sect and how it separates horoscopes into two distinct groups (nocturnal and diurnal) to which according to tradition, two different sets of rules apply; and finally, classifies the planets elementally according to the understanding of the Greek Philosopher Empedocles
2. Essential Dignity

Essential dignity describes the intrinsic strength of a classical planet based on its zodiacal placement. While references to domicile (sign) and exaltation placements (and their corresponding detriment and fall equivalents) are relatively common in the astrological literature, little attention is paid to other dignities/debilities (triplicity, term, face, and peregrine) which can be used to assign essential dignity values to planets. This lecture explores these designations and their relationship to rulership and mutual reception, which enables the determination of the degree to which a planet can be itself and to differentiate between the ruler of a house cusp and its almuten, believed by the ancients to be a higher level of rulership.
3. Planetary Fortitudes, Debilities &Joys

While essential dignity reveals a planet’s intrinsic strength, fortitudes, debilities, and joys, being based on house placement and connections to the angles can tell the astrologer something about a planet’s ability to act: its agency. This talk explores traditional ideas regarding these placements, how they can be used to ascertain something about a planet’s “accidental dignity”, and the psychological implications, particularly for planets placed in traditionally difficult houses.
4. Temperament

Temperament theory says that characteristic or habitual inclinations in the human person can be described as resulting from combinations of four “humors” (choleric, melancholic, sanguine, and phlegmatic) that correspond with the four elements (fire, earth, air, and water). This lecture first explains the astrological factors classically used to determine temperament, then discusses their relationship with more modern technique of the planetary totals in the four elements by sign, and finally draws insights from other psychological four-fold typologies to enrich astrological understanding.
5. Lots (Arabic Parts)

Astrology's Arabian or Arabic parts, also known originally as lots, are constructed horoscope points based on mathematical calculations of three horoscopic entities such as planets or angles. The distance between two of the points is added to the position of the third (usually the ascendant) to derive the location of the lot. This lecture shows how a selection of lots are calculated and interpreted with a particular emphasis on lots of Spirit and Fortune.

Nadia, are there any Nikola Stojanovic books that one can buy that is in english?
I am wondering if the restrictive and myopic traditional gender roles (moon-female, sun-male) could be further discussed. I am an amateur astrologist and have always found the concept of moon being feminine is therefore passive, receiving, nurturing to be irritating as well as male being the sun and assertive, strong, dominating and emitting it's own light and power. I think it is time to change these sexist constructs in astrology because it does inform the social consciousness and it perpetuates harmful stereotypes and concepts of these sexes. Women may not be nurturing at all, are very assertive, etc and men can be receptive and very nurturing, etc.. Astrology needs to either open up the gender constructs to those as well who do not identify with either the feminine or masculine or they identify with alternative gender identities.
Very reductionist, post modern view you have, unfortunately. You completely miss the point! You cannot assess ancient concepts and " judge" them with your 21sr century mind!!!! You have to go deeper and connect with these concepts on a more intuitive level! There ARE good and bad things in the universe, you know! Everything is not perfect and good! You can't gloss over all the deep, dark phenomena... and hope with your woke mind that you can wish them away just by willing it!!

@@fndngnvrlnd I think if you think I am saying there aren't good and bad things in the universe or that I am glossing over any 'deep, dark phenomena' or wishing anything away, then you have missed the entire point of what I am saying. Being intuitive doesn't mean accepting the perpetuation of non-inclusive concepts. I am also commenting on current, modern astrology not ancient astrology. Since everyone is currently a product of current times, however, everyone is perceiving whatever information they are given with some degree of a 21st century mind. Finally, if being woke means I am able to critically analyze, then so be it.
@@banana19934 I am not confusing feminine or masculine for female or male. I am stating that in society what is considered 'feminine' is associated with the construct of femininity and being female as 'masculine' is for male. This further feeds the social construct of what it means to be female or male, as incorrect as this might be. In addition, the current understanding of the feminine and masculine is changing. There is no reason to be so rigidly tied to this archetypal understanding of the feminine or masculine. It is time to think beyond that.
@@AP-qc2ll i disagree. How can we go beyond our thinking? Archetypes are just that, archetypes. The definition means they need to represent the extreme of the trait. Why are we trying to reinvent the wheel based on a changing political landscape and emerging gender fluidity. No one is actually being discriminated by archetypes. Politics does not belong in astrology.
