When most of the "humor" in modern shows is mocking people, or sexual...it's rather difficult for a non-debased mind to find anything to laugh at. Nothing abnormal about your predicament! If I watch anything, it's older tv shows/movies.
I really think Joe Flynn was the driving force in this show. He was one hell of a comedic actor and was actually underrated. Look at the facial expressions he uses during the inspection, particularly while they are in the room with his picture. He conveys so much frustration without having to say a word. That's just good acting and it's uniquely funny!
He is also very brilliant! There are some interviews with Ernest Borgnine here on TH-cam about McHale's Navy. Also why, after saying no, he actually took the role. Enjoy!

I never laugh at modern TV shows. I started thinking it was me. Then I started watching these older shows, which were hysterical. I now laugh again.

These old classics get better with repeated watching. I really like the PT boat. They must have really enjoyed making the movies on McHale’s Navy.
