- Are the cultural industries designed to exploit creatives? In this passionate and personal talk, Hugh describes a world in which creative people of all kinds and ages are connected, nurtured and supported. In this environment, the creative ecology empowers a self-sustaining cultural economy to flourish. Hugh has a PhD in how to be a rock star. He wakes up every day with music in his soul, yet has made his living as a journalist, public servant, project manager, farm labourer, cleaner, educator, and researcher. Having played almost every kind of music in pubs, clubs, festivals, theatres, and studios, he has released 5 albums and a few singles via his own record label, Hugemusic. He nonetheless has never been able to kick the need for a day job to support his family. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

All that and few tweaks in copyright, performance rights and a better integration of secondary and tertiary education into venues and performance spaces along with an adapted and flexible apprenticeship system.
Yes, Chris! Along with recognition that the administrative work artists do is essential to their development and should be recognised as valuable for the purposes of the "job-search effort" test.
