    The way they handle larger prey makes me think of tiny wolves. I would love to keep these some day but right now i have to do with my european ground beetles.

    So a solitary predator will unite with others to take down larger prey. I thought tiger beetles didn't do that.

      It's more that they just all start eating at once when a large prey item is present. They'll attack prey in groups in the wild as well as the confines of a terrarium, but there's no reason to believe it's cooperative.

      But look, they are being kept together, which is why I'm asking.

    How do you catch sexguttata? They are the most common tiger beetle in easter Oklahoma yet i have only ever seen 2 and caught 1. Repanda is easy but I can't seem to locate sexguttata...

      Gavin Caldwell sexguttata occur in low densities in forested habitat. Since they live in forests instead of along beaches, they have more habitat than repanda, but are scarce in that habitat. The best way to find them is to walk around trails or roads going through forest and look for them in sunny patches, on the ground or climbing rocks and logs. I’ve also found them in cool weather hiding under loose bark of dead logs, once I found 3 within a few minutes that way.

    Do you use a heat bulb or regular bulb? I read that they can do fine at room temperature

    • @salmonsaladsandwich8161
      @salmonsaladsandwich8161  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gavin Caldwell I use a regular incandescent bulb which produces a lot of heat. They require a hot light overhead for at least part of the day in order to go about their normal behavior.

      @@salmonsaladsandwich8161 yeah I had one that made the hot side of the tank roughly 92 or so and the cooler end was around 84 or 85. Had to give it to my parents for baby chicks so don't have one rn. Temp is around 76 degrees. They definitely are much more active with it around though
