Welcome to View Master Travels! Today, we embark on a captivating journey through the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California. This enigmatic mansion, built by Sarah Winchester, the widow of William Wirt Winchester, showcases intricate architecture, secret passageways, and unexplained mysteries. It is believed that Sarah Winchester built this sprawling mansion to appease the spirits of those killed by Winchester rifles, her late husband's invention.
As we explore the Winchester Mystery House, we discover its unique features, such as staircases leading to nowhere, doors opening onto walls, and rooms with peculiar designs. The house's construction lasted for 38 years, with continuous renovations, resulting in a maze-like structure with over 160 rooms. It is said that the constant construction was an attempt to confuse the spirits and prevent them from finding her.
One of the most fascinating aspects of the Winchester Mystery House is its exquisite craftsmanship and ornate decorations. The "Grand Ballroom" stands out with its beautiful woodwork and impressive pipe organ. The "Séance Room" is a testament to Sarah Winchester's spiritual beliefs, featuring a luxurious red velvet chair where she would communicate with the otherworldly.
The View Master reel also takes us to the "Restored Front Parlor," a room sealed off by Sarah Winchester after the 1906 earthquake. This natural disaster caused significant damage to the house, trapping Mrs. Winchester in her bedroom and leaving permanent scars on the structure. To this day, the front 30 rooms of the mansion remain sealed and inaccessible.
Beyond the Winchester Mystery House, we stumble upon another hidden gem in San Jose, the "Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum." Established in 1921 by the Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis, this museum boasts a remarkable collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts and a full-size replica of a tomb discovered in Middle Egypt's Beni Hasan site. The museum's architecture, designed in an ancient Egyptian style, adds to its mystique and fascination.
In addition to the Winchester Mystery House and the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, our View Master reel introduces us to other notable landmarks in San Jose. The "Japanese Friendship Garden" pays homage to the renowned Korakuen Garden in Japan, and the "San Jose Center for the Performing Arts" continues to host captivating performances. We also catch a glimpse of the "Historic San Jose Museum of Art," housed in a building that served as the city's original post office.
San Jose's impressive economic growth is evident with the inclusion of the "Grand Court Eastridge Shopping Center" on the View Master reel. This shopping mall, unveiled in 1971, once stood as the largest on the West Coast, reflecting the city's prosperous development.
As we conclude our journey, we marvel at the transformation San Jose has undergone, from a small town to a thriving hub of technology and economic prosperity. The city's population has surpassed one million residents, and it now boasts the second-fastest growing economy globally. Yet, amidst its modern achievements, San Jose still preserves its historic charm, as seen in the last remaining domed movie theater, now a historic landmark.
We hope you've enjoyed this immersive adventure through the Winchester Mystery House, San Jose's iconic landmarks, and its vibrant cultural scene. Join us again for more captivating travels in the future. Thank you for watching, and until next time!

Another winner! I visited the Winchester Mystery House in the early '70s. Just a note about shopping malls: it may seem old-fashioned now, but in the late '60s and early '70s these malls were still a new concept. The first one I ever saw was in the late '60s in Torrance, California (Del Amo Mall).

Enjoyed that once again - just a small thing, talking about the GDPs at the end; Oslo is the capital of Norway, it's not in Sweden. Looking forward to more in the series as you do 'em!
