Interstellar (2014) changed the science fiction game. Beyond the never-before-seen specific effects, it was the screenplay by Jonathan and Christopher Nolan that helped make it such an outstanding movie. Interstellar is a complex and highly imaginative story that does require some explanation, especially the Interstellar ending, which is why we’re here. This is the Interstellar Ending Explained with the help of Blake Snyder’s Save the Cat Beat sheet.
In order to completely grasp the impact and depth of the Interstellar ending, we have to go back to the beginning. We find Cooper, our protagonist, and his precocious daughter, Murph experiencing some strange phenomena, which she thinks of as “her ghost.” Meanwhile, the Earth is experiencing a devastating global environmental crisis and NASA enlists Cooper to lead a mission to find a new home planet.
Cooper and the Endurance crew literally go interstellar in hopes of finding salvation with the thematic conflict of Interstellar posed: will Cooper’s faith in science alone be enough to save the human race, or will he have to expand his beliefs to embrace the unknown?
Blake Snyder’s groundbreaking Save the Cat beat sheet is a system that maps out a complete character arc. We’ve seen plenty of sci-fi “men on a mission” stories before but there’s something about Interstellar that feels entirely different. There are a lot of story beats in Interstellar that match traditional story structure but the way Jonathan and Christopher Nolan are able to weave themes of love and sacrifice within a story full of scientific theory is nothing short of amazing. With the Interstellar ending explained, we can see just how layered and powerful the entire screenplay is, starting on page one.

For 45 years I have struggled with the structure of a screenplay. From Syd Fields to Robert McKee to our dearly departed Blake Snyder, I have always felt estranged from the natural process of writing the screenplay. I cannot thank you enough for the visual representation of the 3 act structure and Nolans use of it with Interstellar. Outstanding work. I had the pleasure of meeting Blake and know he would be thrilled at your illustration. Cheers.

Then I watched it again and became very bored during the long sequences of oversimplifying explanation. This gave me time to think about the essence of the movie which really boils down to Nolan showing off his visual skills whilst pretending to offer a intelligent story that lacks in any kind of thoughtfulness and offers love as the solution to all unanswered questions leaving no space for interpretation or any kind of analysis because it really isn't more than that.

I think the opening shot was Nolan telling people, non-verbally, what the plot was. A space ship in/on a dusty bookshelf... When murph said "its my ghost." I knew it was going to be cooper from the future or different dimension. I absolutely love it when directors make movies that are clever and talk to people who are paying attention.

I also picked that up and I knew where it was heading. Once the gravity well was revealed, it was confirmed that time was going to be manipulated. At that point the movie got a little boring for me actually. Compare that to 2001 A Space Odyssey - the first time you see it you have no idea what’s coming...amazing!

i never quite understood why it such an underrated film compared to his other wroks, lots of people had complains when in reaslity it has one of the best scripts brothers nolan have ever written, in terms of originality and structure (yes yes the dark knight is the best but just think about the fact that the whole interstellar script is 100% original). such important and relevant ideas regarding global warming and space exploration for the future of humanity, which sasdly not enough people talk about. and you guys summed it all up so no one can complain about the "complexity of the ending"- the main theme is literally that the science isnt what important but rather the connection between people and somtimes believing in what we dont necessarly understand yet. awesome video!

Actually when I was watching the movie I was very sleepy because of the background music and now in 17 minutes studiobinder gave me the full understanding of this Master piece(Interstellar) and I'm very much inspired by the points and breakdown explained by studiobinder to write a script and screenplay based on those intelctuality of points. Thanks to studiobinder👍👍👍
