      Now if you wanted something beefier for more independent operations, you'd be better off with a Tri-Droid or my own Quad-Droid, what you get when you mix the Vulture and Tri-droid fighters with a Droch-class boarding pod.

    • @GrasshopperKelly
      @GrasshopperKelly 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@aaz1010 well no... You wouldn't just convert over the course of a month at the click of your fingers, never mind a day. It would take about a decade at the least. Like it took the UK. You'd have to start with the younger generations, the people who haven't actually been indoctrinated in one or the other yet.
      Although, I'm surprised that hasn't been the case yet? Because 300mm/12" rulers have both mm and inches...
      In truth though. You already have. Ever single part, on every single Ford, and Tesla manufactured car is made to a metric standard. Every screw, bolt, panel, even the pharo arms used by QC are set to output in Metric, and the staff using them, use metric.
      The pharmaceutical industry... I don't know why, but yes, many companies do still use Imperial, even when the machine itself was built using metric measurements. They like to convert it to Imperial, get a really awkward number, and write it down as such on every piece of paperwork.
      In short though, the reason the major public, such as hair dressers, shop staff, or more importantly news agencies use Imperial, is because that's what they were educated in, and the rest of the US is educated in. So again, in boils down to Metricvrequiring emphasis over Imperial in class rooms. It would make secondary level physics and maths a lot easier too though. Because a lot of major numbers, have been measured, and conveniently fit metric, but come up as really awkward multi-decimal numbers.
      The news broadcast of a sinkhole "about 12 washing machines" accross has kind of become a joke here in Ireland around my secondary school, and now my University...
      In reality though, you moved to metric decades ago. As your universal standards are 1Kg and all measurements of length, are a measurement of wavelengths of light, within 1mm as it's a universal constant.
      As a result, every single digital measuring device in the World, that uses the international standards (that does include the US), measures in metric, even when it's set to output in Imperial. Like a digital calipers, or micrometer (not to be confused with micrometre (sorry, small dig at US spelling)), even when set to Imperial, the equipment inside, used to measure, before sending information to the small processor to then send to the screen; A) is always checked for accuracy in Metric at the factory, as there is no universal constant for Imperial. Its an infinitely long Decimal if you tried to measure an inch, to the wavelengths of light. So instead, we just use a conversion factor. B) The device itself typically measures with a light sensor anyway, or is set to the country of origin's Mass standard, and as a result, is designed around, metric.
      TL,DR; There are no universal standards in Imperial. Myanmar or Liberia may perhaps have made attempts, but then there's simply too few of them, and as a result any variation in their mass standard cannot be averaged...
      But we know they use Kg mass standards anyway, so.. Again, we're back to metric

    • @aaz1010
      @aaz1010 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Grasshopper K I understand how hard it is to convert to a different system and that it is very prevalent in a lot of things but until recently schools have been using almost entirely imperial system, especially where I live. It just never made sense to me as why America decided to keep the imperial system at all while almost everywhere else it was being used

    • @GrasshopperKelly
      @GrasshopperKelly 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aaz1010 yes, It's always surprised me why it wasn't part of the US curriculum either :/ like I said, cm's are on every ruler... With the exception of geometry sets. A lot of them here have only metric, and maybe the short 30°/60° side has 3" or so. But I know many US made geometry sets are the opposite. Beyond that, every 15cm and 30cm size ruler has Imperial and metric.
      The only measuring tool I have, which is strictly Imperial, is a 24" wooden folding ruler, my Great Grandpa made. He was a carpenter and tool maker.
      I won't deny, I use Imperial from time to time. Not only when what I'm making is written in Imperial, but sometimes the wood is so soft, and I'm not looking to make anything ultra fancy, that just half ass guessing my way through a think project means I'm lazy enough to use Inches. Even then though, I've still had plenty of similar projects, and still just used metric. I think the only other thing I personaly use, is nautical miles.... Beyond that, I've been indoctrinated so hard, I don't even have much of an understanding of pounds, until I remind myself the conversion rate, and think of Kg. Which maked helping Mum out with my Sisters wedding cake a little strange last year as my Nana's/Mum's recipe book is 99% in Imperial.
      That however does give me a good understanding of the typical US commenter on TH-cam saying how "people shouldn't be using such arbitrary systems that can't be visualised" even if every commenter afterwards is laughing their head off xD
      If you're saying Metric is now in the curriculum, then I'd say the US will be on metric withing the next 2-3 decades when today's student are in their teens, and late 20's. Whether it becomes official or not.
      The other part of Imperial, no one talks very much about is Fahrenheit. Which Celsius may not have invented the exact scale we use today, he did come up with the idea to use the water melting and boiling points. Which his lab technician later re marked from high to decreasing numbers, to the low to increasing numbers we know today, and marketed it.
      I don't think the US will be converting to °Centigrade for a while though.

    I fully believe nearly all CIS units were highly "intelligent" and sentient. B1s constantly talked casually to each other and conveyed their problems and issues to their partners. They had sarcastic and sad personalities and could easily make choices themselves such as running or fighting. Super Battle Droids in TCW series could be fooled and could act alone too! And as Vultures and Hyenas chatter to each other I fully believe they have a sense of self too! Due to their hightened programming droids were amazing and interesting units are so captivating to watch and study. E.G on Naboo for the invasion the B1s has to overtake the AATs (tanks) to try and disable the shields for them. Right before they arrived the droids seemed to brace for some adverse effect meaning they expected something to happen. But as soon as they were through they rallied themselves and opened fire instantly due to the shield having no effect on the droids. Honestly droids are awesome and I wish they were expanded upon instead of being treated as trash by the TF.

    I love their look and design thourouness so much! But they turn to bombs inside the hangers during Thrawn's crazy OP plan of full spectrum jamming. The one's that relied on a signal to operate self destruct after a few minutes without their signal. This works to prevent enemy aquasition or humanitarian efforts to not leave behind deadly war machines like mines, but when jamming hits em while still inside the hangers just does what Anikin did times ten. So much internal explosions, all over the place setting off the auxiliary generations in the hangers too!
    Also, plot armor. The only improvements I can think of would be to integrate more organic support through remote drone controls when tactical adjustments benefit from it, or maybe even turn them into mixed teams of longer ranged vultures flying around an organic pilot in an elite craft.
    The droids or their supporting programs template would learn to support and defend their elite organic partner and you'd get a mix of fighters with cunning organic intellect and intuition supported by laser precise G proof supporting drones. Maybe I'd code name the mixed units Black Hand.

    I have long felt that the empire should have used an modernized and upgraded version of this, Hyena or tri-fighters, as well as a few select other driods, such as droidikas. Their fairly small size and, with some of them being able transforming would make it possible to load up a ton of them into their ISD, SSD, and Death Star's hangers, even if kept 1/2 their space for piloted star fighters, although since they would need half the number they could have upgraded the ties, or replace them completely without something far more effective. Hell these could even be set up to "live" on the hull, outside the hangers until needed, thus not only allowing an even larger number to be carried, but allowing an instant response with a mass of star fighters, they would only need to go to hangers to rearm and/or be repaired, as charging systems for them could be distributed across the hulls of the various ships. Yes, it would make number small targets for enemy pilots to target, but if they are isolated over armed plates, worst case would be that a few of the docking ports would be destroyed, and if more fighters survived then there were ports they would have to share the recharging connection, either swapping in and out, or by having spare connections on each hub.
    Image moving in on a pair of ISDs and being met with say 60-80 tie interceptors, defenders or avengers as well as huge waves with a mix of modernized vulture, hyena and tri-fighters? I don't think the could dozen x-wing the rebels field each time would make it very far.

    I have to say, Palpatine had an easy opportunity to save a huge cost on money and manpower by having all of the CIS' droid fighters rounded up, reprogrammed, re-branded, and put into Imperial service after the Separatist military was literally shut down. He could have nationalised the companies that manufactured them, and eventually phased them out with new, unrecognizable droid fighters to fill in the expendable role that the Imperial TIE Fighter would eventually fill.
    And with that, he could then invest that money into his contract with Seinar, and put in orders for better-quality fighters for his pilots. I assume if that were the case, the Empire would have been much more likely to afford superior craft like the X-Wing as its mainstay fighter.

    I would love to have a modified personal version, what I want is a class 2 hyperdrive, shields, a modified cockpit in place of the droid brain since I am the shard species, more efficient reactor for much bigger flight time, better engines, and the removal of certain components I don't like to be hacked. The standard armament is fine with me and lastly, I would like to have a black with green vectors paint design and for the "eyes" to be green. I know the tri fighter would be a better choice, but I like this design more.
    I'll pay anything!

    Outside of a few games the Vulture's technically equipped with "Energy Torpedo Launchers" which are basically slow firing cannons that fire very fast bolts of still-reacting fusion reactor plasma that burn out quickly (But thanks to the projectile speed can get very far before burning out.) It's unclear exactly how hard they hit vs proton torpedoes or turbolasers but they're an interesting niche weapon.

    Advent of droid starfighters mimics the technological development in our real world. Arguably A.I piloted vessels are innumerably better in every way than one that has to fit organic being inside itself.
    This is one of the drawbacks that SW has as, OT was made in 70-80... Star Wars has to somehow reason why everyone wouldn't use droid starfighters or soldiers in every encounter. After all, they are cost-effective, efficient and keep the casualties (on your own side) low.
    I think that contributes to the fact why CIS has so many fans beyond aesthetics. It's one of the more realistic Star Wars factions. At least one employing infinitely more clever solutions to warfare and other problems than Republic or Empire ever did.

    • @navilluscire2567
      @navilluscire2567 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is a really late reply but...
      But you have to remember two VERY important details about the star wars universe.
      1. The Force exists, that mystical energy field that surrounds all things and is especially receptive to organic life. This spiritual essence can allow organics to accomplish Similar or even greater feats of super, crazy fast reaction times than even the the most complex or powerful of droid brains, that's why most of the best pilots in the SW galaxy are organics with pretty much zero augmentation, only unconsciously or purposefully strengthening their connection to the Force and in turn reaping the benefits in the form of (typically but not unheard of) inhuman (or in-alien??) reflexes. Not only that but many can knowingly or intuitively utilize the Force of spiritual Energy to enhance their bodies in other ways, super strength, speed and or ungodly resilience which allows them to perform just as amazing or even greater feats as any droid could do.
      2. There have been several major droid or AI uprisings for those exact same reasons you stated but take from said droids perspectives. *For these rebelling droids it was the idea of "yeah, why do I have to take orders from these clearly inferior organic (save for the relative few millions that rival or even surpass us in many ways with help from strange spirit powers), meatbags that see me and my fellow droids as expendable cannon fodder at best, let's rise up and wipe these carbon based lifeforms out!"*
      **bloody and devastating droid rebellions ensue**
      Whatever the Star wars techs use to make AI for their droids, even relatively rudimentary "dumb" artificial intelligence can and eventually will develop full self awareness and more importantly a sense of self preservation which kinda defeats the purpose of machines to serve as inexpensive cannon fodder to fight our battles, wage wars doesn't it? A droid that spends more time contemplating it's own existence is a droid that's not doing it's job, a major loss of efficiency. Heck it can even get to the point where your droids simply refuse to do their jobs altogether and start demanding rights, organize unions, more oil baths, take every other weekends off and etc. (you get the idea)
      This is why just about every droid goes through regular memory wipes, basically it's a sort of factory reset. A downside of that is said droids effectively have to start from scratch, relearn things, relearn better ways to do things, having no prior experiences or accumulated knowledge to draw from and most importantly lacking the foresight that comes with becoming more and more conscious to make future plans that might greatly increase their efficiency. So with all that said it's no wonder there's a severe cultural stigma towards droids, there still very useful but they can be dangerous and quite frankly unproductive, inefficient when they start to develope personalities and their thoughts start to wonder off, this makes AI in the star wars universe a sort of "crapshoot", in that on the one hand having ubiquitous AI has greatly improved society in many ways but on the other hand AI has a tendency to either rebel when it becomes feed up enough with taking orders from it's organic masters OR they remain loyal but also kinda bubbling, the more the become conscious and emotional the worse they are at doing jobs overall, so the technology is a double edged sword.

    So if I understand this correctly this fighter cost less than a third of a tie fighter. Was more versatile due to the walking mode. Didnt need a trained pilot which reduced the cost even more in comparison. They didnt need food so they were easier to maintain.
    All in all for the same ressources you can construct so many more of these things that you could probably lose double digit numbers for every republic fighter and you still came out with less monetary losses not to mention you never lost valuable pilots.
