I've bought some with remade slits but need to shorten. The pic provided has the edge seamed and hemmed which makes it look better IMO. I'm going to do your markings bit unpick seam and hem it before cutting excess fabric away

10 cm would be very wide if you cut that on each side of the hem, yes it works best if the jeans are longer. And it can be cut wider the bigger you want the split❤️ Aw glad it helped❤️
