  • Kemi Badenoch has confessed the Tories blundered on housebuilding after Labour slammed the previous government for creating a “chronic shortage” of homes.
The shadow housing secretary hinted her party should have overhauled the planning system more but warned Labour might repeat the same mistakes and that new Labour MPs would quickly turn into 'nimbys' as complaints from voters flood in.
Her comments came after Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner promised that locals will still have a say on new developments.
Labour plans to revamp planning laws and push through opposition to build 1.5 million new homes in five years, including building on “grey belt” land like disused car parks and wasteland.
Dr David Bull speaks with chief political commentator for the Independent, John Rentoul.
