  • Discovered a gorgeous old DC-7 airplane at the New Smyrna Beach airport in Florida. Thanks to the folks at Epic Flight Academy for letting me in to film this beautiful piece of history. #epicflightacademy

Still like that classic AA scheme. Flew on what must have been one of the last Boeing 720s ("707-light") in that scheme.

Always liked American Airlines' lightning bolt scheme in 'International Orange'. Now that's when planes looked cool. Every carrier had its own unique 'look'.....and the cheat line! What happened to the cheat line? Oh, well.....I guess that's progress. Every plane, all white nowadays, except the tail. When I think of all the beautiful planes back in the 20th century.......

You're correct. The DC-7 was powered by the R-3350.

I flew on one of these on American as a kid in 1964. Still remember the lightning bolt stripe. I was a nosy kid and wandered around the plane a lot during the flight. I tried to use the water dispenser to get a cup of water but thought the push-button valve was a knob and twisted it off, to the dismay of my mom and consternation of the stewardess.

That's such an awesome story and thanks for sharing!! I'm an old airplane nut myself but don't remember the first airliner flight as I was two and it was on an old DC-3 that belonged to Piedmont Airlines!! My next airliner wasn't until I was 18 and it was a Boeing 727 owned by Eastern!

I was 10 when I flew on a DC-7 from Tulsa to Houston with my Mother. Fastest piston engine airliner at the time. I received a pair of AA wings & still have them. I later learned to fly when I was 16 at Riverside Airport in Tulsa (1966). Worked as a lineboy on Saturdays for one hour of flight instruction on Sundays. I remember a bunch of ROTC boys from TU bitching about being coerced to learn to fly...for free. What a bunch of whiners.

Why does that plane have cow flaps? Is that in case you have to land on a farm? 😂💦
