The moment that brought me the biggest smile in this video was 1:05 - HELLO, Poly D!!! I know he has that fantastic old Minimoog that appears in the Cercle video for "Foix", as well as "Life is Like" (off to the right side), and the "Code Zero" video (which is probably my all time favorite "synth porn" video, with the Wurli, SH-101, the old Korg, and everything else), but there's the Behringer Poly D at 1:05!! It could be that he's using that as a road instrument to protect the treasured Minimoog, or, it could be that he's using some of the Poly D's unique features... or both. There's so much hatred for Behringer in certain parts of the synth community right now, but honestly, I don't see how what they are doing is different than companies who copy the Fender Stratocaster, or Fender P-bass, J-bass, etc. Regardless, I think he just uses what he enjoys using and sees these instruments as tools to create what he is inspired to create. I watch these videos expecting to see things like the Juno 60 (my all-time favorite Roland), or the Analog Keys (I have an A4 Mk II, and it always annoys me that Elektron doesn't make a keys version), or the Prophet '08, but I never expected to see the Poly D. I literally pumped my fist in the air when I saw that, because I knew it meant that he likes the sound of it. Vindication! (I have several Moogs and I also have a Poly D - and I like it.) To me, the Poly D is sort of like The Monkees - No, they're nothing like the Beatles, but they did have a few really great songs and they were definitely fun. The Poly D should not be approached as a Minimoog copy, but as its own wonderful, quirky thing that has some very Moog-like sounds, and some fun abilities and quirks - and yes, it can sound very, very good - and VERY similar to a Moog.
