Just a summarizing note on the AI talk: I think there´s a problem when quantizing and AI is used for comfort instead of artistic choice. It´s like fleeing out of the humane factor that is performance therefore cheating on the listener. It will diminish or render the experience insignificant, just like Steve said. The summarizing part of it is: Trying to be a machine or hoping on a protecting effect will not create a happy experience. Having courage will be recognized. By some at least.

This is a fantastic interview. Thank you for sharing this. I operate and own Frequency Recording in Ny and do business in a similar manner to Steve. I don't have any patience for tape so we are using Pro Tools as a recording medium with an analog console.

I've never considered 'punchy' to be a good thing when describing recording. Makes me think of all of the overproduced 80's style stuff with gated reverb on the drums and just in-your-face vocals/guit/bass/keys/horns. Although I do hear it all the time to describe what some people think is awesome.
