One of the of the most interesting things in Outlander is the way the Church is portrayed: both at it's worse, with the witch trial, and at it's best with the mercy and faith shown by the monks. The show didn't limitated itself with that typical hollywoodian "church bad - worse than the devil" thing.
Fanatics are in every religion and to be honest there is always a good side too. After all humans are humans and only few have the real power and pureness to stay put and help through their beliefs
That is why “the institution” of Christianity is bad... but the good is the values it publishes, not “god given” as these are human thru evolution of society... but they publish them. This Franciscan order monk is showing us that. And that’s why Christianity, from the point of view of pure skepticism and lack of faith, is the real deal... the best amongst all other religions. No other religion publish or even mentions these human values at all
When your truth is experiential no one can part that away from you. Being one with the truth is being One in Creator God. Not all organized religion is well with this. Resonance truth has a core vibration and is recieved in kind by it's listener.
Exactly what we have right now... with a socialist pope trying to destroy the west... but I am sure a lot of priest of low ranks actually preaching watch the so called Jesus, who might not have existed, actually “said” (or was written he said) Good human values, Christianity should be cheered and protected because of that... and condemned because of that pope and the criminals all around inside the institution.
After Jamie survived, she managed to save him not only physically but also his mind. Although the book described the entire process of treating Jamie at the abbey more vividly. And Claire's conversations with the monks.
Yeah, and Jenny... with Jaime and Claire “walking on egg shells” about time and politics... and finally Jaime’s uncle gone... they need, no we need for them to have allies. A priest, aunt Jenny lol... anyone!
Just as there are bad people everywhere, there are also good people everywhere. Sometimes they're the same people. Sometimes morality becomes so complex it can only be sidestepped for the next best thing. Life is funny like that.
I wouldn't think so since the monk doesn't seem like a young man and it has been around nearly 30 years since this scene happened so I'd imagine he'd have past away by now (Edit: but then again Ned Gowan was still alive when Claire returned after her and Jamie's 20 years apart so it wouldn't be impossible).
Season one, I believe the last episode, when Jamie needs to be nursed for his wounds and prior to their departure to France. The book has way better scenery and storytelling than the series could achieve, but it’s sufficient to tell the story

Oh yes
The monk was so open minded, he didn’t see anything as witchcraft but a miracle of God.

'Miracles' are things that cannot be understood or explained by current knowledge or experience.
My most favourite scene in the whole show
The monk has a fatherly warmth and the whol scene is amazing
It's so clear she was carrying so much and then after she told him, she seemed slightly relieved
I love how the monk didn't look at her like a crazy person
And once again, Catriona Balfe is an amazing actress!
I have always loved this scene.

I wish they have more scenes with the monks.

Does anyone recognize the monk as the warlock in GOT?

Yes straight away …

Yes!
Yep. I saw it immediately.

The monk accepted her confession without judgement and showed faith in God.
Isn't that monk the qartheen warlock from GOT?
Oh, my god, confession 😠🤕.
Is he still alive during the latest episode time?
How far along are you now? A real lot has happened since then...

This is so hilarious. She babbles on exactly as if she were with her therapist.
I mean that’s kind of what the confessional is for, isn’t it? To talk about the things which are weighing on your mind and which you deem to be “sins”
This was as close as they could get back then.
Priests are good to talk with about your problems as well
