Exactly as you say. Every time I hear some line like “Just be happy” or “Stop being so anxious” I just look at them like “You really think I wouldn’t be doing that if it were that easy?” I’d love an off switch to just turn it off on command, sadly it doesn’t work that way.
Citizen soldier has saved my life numerous times with their songs and this one, like most of them, really hits home, I've been told to "Cheer Up" and "You should be happy" countless times by people in my life and it breaks me down everytime to hear those words because like you said, it's not a light switch, it's not that easy to "Just be happy" I truly love and appreciate your reactions to the citizen soldier songs, keep up the good work! And if you haven't already, you should definitely check out their songs "Let Me Let Go" and "Bedroom Ceiling" 😊
Thanks for reacting to my favorite band and giving your own input. This is the only group that can consistently hit me in the feels so hard it gets me crying. Golden Weather & Still Frame are 2 songs that do that to me nearly every time I hear them. I hate when people hear songs like these & go "why you listening to this? It's just gonna make you feel sadder or whatever" when it's the LITERAL OPPOSITE that happens to myself & many others who love Citizen Soldier. I don't want love songs when I'm depressed over my extremely poor health (I have depression anyway, but the health issues worsen said depression). I don't want to hear about love, drugs, sex, a truck (country music lol, some is ok though) or whatever else I can't relate to AT ALL. Those of us with depression, PTSD, severe OCD (OCD has nearly killed me), Paranoia, bipolar disorder, 5 physical disabilities, etc have a darn heck of a time finding any songs we can relate to, any songs that, if you close your eyes you can actually go "they studied my life! They wrote this about ME personally! This is great!" I know whenever Citizen Soldier drops a new song there's a literal 95% chance I'll be able to relate to it like that! No other group does this.

Preach, my dude! You're saying what I've been trying to say for many years.
Big hug for you!😘
