I like the idea that the actual text of Romeo and Juliet was lost somehow, but the rest of Shakespeare's work survived the apocalypse, so they're trying to reconstruct the story using his other plays and one of those AI predictive text bots. ...I guess they used Titus Andronicus this time.
If you consider the play is foreshadowing the tragedy in Nier Auto and that the game itself is an allegory for mankind trying to discern meaning in existence, that some of the robots see it as “deeply moving” and others see it as pointless suffering is just *chef’s kiss*.
My jaw fucking dropped when I first saw this in game. I don't know what I was expecting, but it certainly wasn't fucking this. And yet, I'm so, so very glad that it was.
Flamerax13 its meant to be a connection to how juliet finds out romeo killed himself via poison after believing she was dead. and without her beloved she wanted to live no more. and she killed herself with Romeo's Dagger. so the juliet left standing killed herself for destroying them.
The unfittingly epic music actually makes it funnier. Feels kind of like watching a play of Hamlet ending up with a bunch of Hamlets played by Cactuars beating each other to death with false Chocobo skulls while One Winged Angel plays.
Me: *falls through the roof "Hi. I'm mankind." 2B, A2 and 9S: "Art thou serious?" Game: "The hell?? You're ruining the plotline!" Me: "well I guess my name is Mercutio then." And thus, the mankind was once more eradicated from Earth.
Shakespeare actually put in (what looks like) a parody of poorly-acted sappy romantic tragedies at the end of "A Midsummer Night's Dream", so you might very well be right.
I think the best part about this play is that the context of the side quest it occurs in is literally just a day at the amusement park. This is the kind of thing they do normally.
Oh my god, my sides. While it's pretty stereotypical to always have robots utter kill phrases, you have to admit this isn't too far off from what the Montagues and the Capulets wanted to do to each other. XD
I just randomly stumbled on this while fucking around as 2B today, never knowing this exists. And as soon as I heard "Thou stupid asshole" I laughed my ass off.
The stage to a tragedy, a tragedy of how one machine's unrequited love drove her into the very depths of madness, to cannibalize her own kind in a futile attempt to win whom her heart yearned for, whom it pined for day after heart-wrenching day... Now this stage hosts a production where my sides are at the Andromeda Galaxy and the Kuiper belt respectively.
I'm just now playing this game for the first time thanks to the Switch version and I'm so glad to have finally experienced this masterpiece of a performance. Genuinely one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a game. "Pisseth off" in particular got me real good.
the part of the game which made everyone go- "im not gonna skip this, I wanna see how this ends.... then at the end- *crying and applauding* " THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL!!! BRAVO! BRAVO!" or -"wtf did i just see...." whichever 1 of those 2 kinds of people you are, this play is still better than the original! XD
I think "Pisseth off" is my new favourite Shakespearean Quote.
But really, the lead actress completely nailed that finale with that absolutely elegant and chilling *explosion*.
Man, "Begone from this world forever, wench!" Caught me kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Gallus Domesticus Mine has to be "I"ll tear the shit out of thee!"
I almost literally pissed myself of laughter when I saw that...
The "Pisseth off" line felt all so heartfelt. :D
Yoko Taro read the first paragraph of Romeo and Juliet and was like "RIGHT I THINK I GOT IT" and ran out to write this sidequest.
"I'll tear the shit out of thee." ah yes, Shakespeare's finest work
"Pisseth off!"
"My Romeos are no more. I have slain them each and all."
I like to think that 2B might have felt a punch in the gut after hearing that.
As someone who studied this in English I can confirm this is how it went.
Same
Uh.. seriously ?
Same, I even played it on the big scene, it was fantastic ! Though me and my friends consiousness are in a potato now
congrats you are a reason the machines did this now
Yep. The original went exactly like this, and so did that remake with guns!
2b or not 2b, that is the question I seek.
*SLOW CLAPPING*
Whether it is better to be free from this mortal coil, I know not.
But A2's about to let you find out!
Niiiiiiiice~!
Answer: 9S!!!
(Read that in a german accent to get it)
Shakespeare is shedding a tear in heaven.
Davian Jericho tears of inspiration for his newest play, ill bet.
It's how he would've wanted it remembered!
I love how the announcer just came in and said "ummmmm" as if he wasn't expecting the play to turn out like that.
I like the idea that the actual text of Romeo and Juliet was lost somehow, but the rest of Shakespeare's work survived the apocalypse, so they're trying to reconstruct the story using his other plays and one of those AI predictive text bots.
...I guess they used Titus Andronicus this time.
And these robot actors are still actually on about the same level of intelligence that the actual characters Romeo and Juliet were.
StattStatt Considering that both were hormonal teenagers at the time of the story, this isn't entirely false.
@@maca673 well but romeo is quite older q.q
@@somnia3423 he's only like what, 2 or 3 years older? Still a teenager with raging hormones. And Juliet is more intelligent than him lol.
Raging hormones is no excuse to commit suicide for a crush you knew for all of one week
I think that's my favorite part. Basically the same story. Far more comedy.
3:32 The most sensible robot in this game so far....
True
If you consider the play is foreshadowing the tragedy in Nier Auto and that the game itself is an allegory for mankind trying to discern meaning in existence, that some of the robots see it as “deeply moving” and others see it as pointless suffering is just *chef’s kiss*.
'So this is a piece of literature from the old world? Hmmm. I believe it speaks of the cruelty of mankind'.
And to be fair, that's the only thing the machines managed to get right. The goddam theme.
Most brilliant play I have ever seen. Speaks to me on a thousand levels. 10/10 would piss off and beat the shit out of people again
Meet thy doom! (ʳ ´º㉨º)ʳ
Lite_Lantern *Pisseth off

When people say they want a romance like Romeo and Juliet...just show them this video.
Yes
My jaw fucking dropped when I first saw this in game. I don't know what I was expecting, but it certainly wasn't fucking this.
And yet, I'm so, so very glad that it was.
Shakespeare Abridged looks great!
Sorry, Sword Art Online Abridged. This is now number one on trending for the Abridged genre.
"Die Die Die!" "Ill tear tey shit out of thee!" NieR: Automata - Game of the Year
Game of the YoRHa*
This game is not what I expected, yet I couldn't wish for anything else.
Now I'm no expert in literature but I'm pretty sure that's not how the original went
lam1nat0r1 haha
this is EXACTLY what I said when I saw it in the game
Its good to see that after thousands of years, Shakespear's work has aged like fine wine.
To the point where it actually started going bad
@@cpt.mcn00b36 to be fair the attempt to preserve this even exceeds the age of mankind itself.
I like how the surviving juilete just kills itself for no reason
Flamerax13
its meant to be a connection to how juliet finds out romeo killed himself via poison after believing she was dead. and without her beloved she wanted to live no more. and she killed herself with Romeo's Dagger.
so the juliet left standing killed herself for destroying them.
Nathan Her I het that but in this case it's kinda pointless
+Flamerax13 the idea that it was pointless was the whole point in the game, it's foreshadowing
The fact that a 16th-century story survived into the 120th century is truly a testament to how relevant Shakespeare's writing really was.
The unfittingly epic music actually makes it funnier.
Feels kind of like watching a play of Hamlet ending up with a bunch of Hamlets played by Cactuars beating each other to death with false Chocobo skulls while One Winged Angel plays.
Man shit hits the fan rather consistently in automata huh.
Yeah...
Afther finish the game this has a other meaning
andres villani do tell cuz I missed it
shdwboi07 did you play further than ending A?
Aklyon Yeah already Plat it just couldn't draw any meaning from the play outside of machines adapting human emotions/behaviours
Why couldn't they teach this version in school?
Air Phoenix It was too advanced for our basic organic brains to understand.
Because Leonardo DiCaprio
Good lord that movie sucked.
Imagine if 2B and 9S joined the fight.
9S: "Thou an insult to Shakepeare!"
2B: "Fall to thy blade!"
And imagine if A2 joined it as well.
A2: "Thou art an insult to mankind!"
Me:
*falls through the roof
"Hi. I'm mankind."
2B, A2 and 9S:
"Art thou serious?"
Game: "The hell?? You're ruining the plotline!"
Me: "well I guess my name is Mercutio then."
And thus, the mankind was once more eradicated from Earth.
tbh they probably don't know what the story was supposed to be exactly either...
Oh boy i was not expecting that turn of events XD.
10/10 would see again.
I wonder how Shakespeare would react to this. I mean, its not like he was a noble or anything, maybe this type of humor would be right up his alley.
Shakespeare actually put in (what looks like) a parody of poorly-acted sappy romantic tragedies at the end of "A Midsummer Night's Dream", so you might very well be right.
1:53 Impeccably delivered line!
yeah that escalated way to quickly but was hilarious
For never was a story of more woe. Than this of three Juliets and their three Romeos.
“My Romeos are no more. I have slain them each and all.”
"I must join them anon"
*boom*
2B...
This re-imagined will surely win a lot of award. Such quality writing.
really impresive and romantic
Having watched a version of "Titus Andronicus", I would think the Bard would be both moved and laughing his ass off if he ever watched this play.
Truly the best potrayal of Romeo and Juliet ever.
Man I do not remember Romeo and Juliet being so sad T-T
PISSETH OFF!!!!!! 😂
Truly speaks to the soul
This play's sense of humor hath withstood the test of time.
Now I want to see a Automata version of "The Aristocrats"
Well the part where Adam born. That was the part.
The best telling of Romeo and Juliet I've seen.
Beats the shit out of Romeo and Juliet 2: Love Resurrected.
I thought that this was kinda cute how they tried to perform a kind of inaccurate version of Romeo and Juliet
Then the fighting happened
That was...funny, yet utterly horrifying.
Nick Roberts As machines yes.
Yoko Taro's form of humor in a nutshell.
Tear-jerking.
Because you were laughing so hard that tears coming out
That one audience member that says the play doesn't make any sense at all while all the others were enthralled haha.
"thou stupid asshole!" Shakespearean at his finest
That was fucking great
Romeo and Juliet according to platinum games.
TheBrilliantAndAmazingGamer According to Yoko Taro, actually.
no....this is how Shakespeare intended.
You wanna know what is even better? It's still a better story than Twilight!
Camus - Senel Well funny enough Twilight's author actually was inspired by Romeo and Juliet in cruel twist of irony
Aye, she believed it's a story about true wuv.
Marcos Cunha Its sad that robots made nine millennia from now have a better grasp on Shakespeare than a 21st century meatbag.
Camus - Senel Groaaaaan
True, 9S and 2B relationship really did hit me hard. Indeed, a better love story than Twilight
'Pisseth off!'
ingenius, lol
A bombastic performance!
I got to this scene and I legit cried so flipping hilarious xD
I think the best part about this play is that the context of the side quest it occurs in is literally just a day at the amusement park.
This is the kind of thing they do normally.
I was expecting the boss again, but this was an extemely pleasant surprise! This was honestly amazing
*PISSETH OFF!!!!!*
Oh my god, my sides. While it's pretty stereotypical to always have robots utter kill phrases, you have to admit this isn't too far off from what the Montagues and the Capulets wanted to do to each other. XD
Romeos and juliets killing each other
*SONG OF THE ANCIENTS INTENSIFIES*
I just randomly stumbled on this while fucking around as 2B today, never knowing this exists. And as soon as I heard "Thou stupid asshole" I laughed my ass off.
I'll tear the shit out of thee......
The theater has become a lot more profound these days.
Going to write about this version in my GCSE essay next month. All my friends get good grades, so hopefully, I'll get an A2...
Wow, look how Shakespeare have grown past the 9000+ years, it's become more advanced
i stumbled on this scene and it was hilarious
*"i'll tear the shit out of thee"*
I bet the people voicing these were having a blast! Props to them!
this is the moment where I realized I loved this game
This was better than everything Shakespeare ever actually did combined.
The stage to a tragedy, a tragedy of how one machine's unrequited love drove her into the very depths of madness, to cannibalize her own kind in a futile attempt to win whom her heart yearned for, whom it pined for day after heart-wrenching day...

Hey. They were doing Shakespe- *Sees the Romeos and Juliets attacking each other* Never mind.
As soon as Romeo says "Wherefore art thou Juliet" is when I started chuckling.
I'm just now playing this game for the first time thanks to the Switch version and I'm so glad to have finally experienced this masterpiece of a performance. Genuinely one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a game. "Pisseth off" in particular got me real good.
The only remaining that's better than the original
Pisseth off needs to be a car sticker with a Romeo bot
Words cannot describe how much I adore this play
This made me weep. So beautiful. Anon
Now well then...
This got me in tears, tears of laughter, but it's all the same probably.
1:30: "Die, Robeo! Thou stupid asshole!" This one just killed me XDDDD
No machines were harm during the making of this play
This is a masterpiece LOL I'm in love with this game.
and 2B is like wtf am i watching :P

This reminds me of that episode of Revolutionary Girl Utena that basically explains half the plot using a humorous play.
Shakespeare's plays are universally updated to fit with the contexts they are performed in. This play fits the 12th millennium very well.
This is the best thing in any game ever.
This is really great.
This is so much better than what happened in high school
Isn't this the plot of Romeo Must Die?
i shall make thee regret the day of thy day birth, lol.
I kinda think there is some hidden point in this
Most faithful adaptation ever.
best Romeo and Juliet ever
Bravo! Bravo! This is the most Brillian play i've ever seen. Bravo!
9S: How are we ended up here?
2B: Don't know, don't care.
Wow. Nice romeo and juliet version machines! Congrats!
It brings me so much joy to find out the "pisseth off" one was Max Mittelman
If plays were more like this, then I would go to them more often.
Exactly how I remember it.
I can't believe this was foreshadowing
Went in for stamps, left laughing my ass off.
MODERN MASTERPIECE
