My dad turned me on to this song, long ago and far away. Thanks, Mr. Knoblch. It killed me but was liberating to sing it when my dad passed almost two years ago (on my Martin). This song still gets to me and it'll be a sad day when it doesn't. Thank you, Sir, for the music. I've, personally been a fan since I was a young'n.
I was lucky enough to hear Mr. Knobloch perform this live at The Bluebird , What an incredibly gifted and talented singer , songwriter and guitar player. He played a Randy Newman song that night and if you closed your eyes you would swear Randy Newman was right there singing it. Bought his CD that night and played it again and again . Also loved him performing " A Lover is Forever " I believed Wynonna Judd recorded it.
John W:....thanks for the nice words! Rosanne Cash recorded "A Lover Is Forever" first back in 1985 or so but it never came out until she released a live version. It's been recorded 25 times or so but the significant ones were Trisha Yearwood, Etta James and Ruth Brown.
FiremanOly: Thanks for the props on "Why Not Me"! That song, as well as "Three Verses", was an emotional roller coaster to write. Glad you dig the music! Cheers! J Fred
I was mesmerized by "Why Not Me" back when I was in college at the University of Minnesota. I became a firefighter and eventually music as a side hobby but I still perform that song at about 1/2 of my gigs. "just get drunk at the reception....." It has such great lyrics that paint a clear picture. I remember when you were touring with Susan Anton (Dudley Moore's ex) boy where have the years gone? You sound great! Glad to have found this.
Hey an honor to touch base with you. I am definitely going to have to learn his one as well. If you are ever in the Seattle area d need some back-up vocals give me a holler. Not much of a guitar player (simply a strummer) but I can hold my own on vocals with just about anyone. Really bored? check out a few of my vids and take a listen. God Bless!
