Listening to “gods of second chance” and knowing what Mike did to himself as so strange. Whoever reads this, no matter what demons you fight, don’t give up on yourself. May Mike rest in peace...
I've always been a big Metal Church fan, but i ignored this after it came out. Not sure why? The cover art? Just listened to it and can't believe I missed it!!!! Definitely as good as any other album by the guys. Rock on!
Thank you for downloading this album. I have been looking for it for years now. I remember "No Friend of Mine" when it came out back in the 90s. It's good to hear it again after all of these years.
I remember when this album came out..Metal scene was pretty much dead at the time with Grunge bands and Techno crap blasting on every corner, I just could not believed my ears first time I've listened to the whole CD ...definitely best Heavy Metal album of the 90'ies and in top 10 list of best Metal albums of all time. (someone should remaster this Masterpiece and make suiting album cover)
No way, but good. Saw them live in Seattle when they first released it. Some weak tracks on it. And the cover is their worst. Not as Good as any Nevermore or second Sanctuary album from the 90's. Dude, there are some 90's masterworks of metal.
That's exactly what I was thinking. This album cover was one of the reasons Mike Howe quit the band and left the music industry all together. Until of course his return to the band in 2015. But yeah, the band needs to remaster all of the albums up to this point and redo the cover art. I remember when I was in a record store looking for something completely different in '93 and found this album on cassette with this horrendous cover art which was not inline with anything Church had put out before, I wondered if it was an official release or of it was some cheap bootleg of a live performance or something. I bought it anyway and honestly didn't play it much. I still jammed to Blessings in Disguise ('89) and Human Factor ('91) quite a bit though. It's really funny looking back at those years though. Metal was a relatively new genre and there wasn't that many band and albums out so it was quite easy to become intimately familiar with them. But now 30+ years later with shit tons more bands and albums, it's hard to really get into any one band or album long enough to learn the albums by heart. But you're right about the time this album came out...1993...traditional 80s metal was dead and Grunge and Rap were playing all over the place. So to find a new Metal Church release in 93 was quite weird.
@@mgdarenz Well, possibly, but the mid 90s (93 to 97) were the worst years in metal ever. It was a dark time for the Rebellion then, that's for sure. As a 80s metalhead, I thought metal was dead for good during those years. But thankfully the birth of European power metal in 97 with the likes of HammerFall and Primal Fear to name a few, metal had been reborn. Grave Digger was on its comeback in 93 onwards too, so there's that. Iced Earth in America was born in 1990 or so. That god for Jon Schafer.
@@WhatDayIsItTrumpDay Exactly. But we still had great bands here. I lived in Seattle and could see and knew the guys from Nevermore. And Warrel turned me on to some European bands, and the rest we discovered in other countries.
I normally don't bother with reading the comments. It's always a bunch of silly cunts who hide behind the keys and complain rather than create art of their own. But after reading the comments here, it was awesome to see this band get the love and respect they've earned. Sort of restores my faith in our metal family.
Oooeeeefffff..... Listening to this with a heavy heart... Met Mike on their '94 european tour... Big thanks to my friend Toni of Megora for getting me backstage... By 1995 I had to deal with some personal stuff and metal in general was attached to that in a negative way... So skipped most metal out of my life for a loooong time... But this definately can be included again... One of the few metal bands that can make me cry with lyrics so sincere and a voice so strong. Mike, you're missed.
Hard to believe he is gone. I was excited he came back to Metal Church. The band produce 3 albums. RIP....Mike we will truly miss you, but your music will live on.
Band was on its knees practically when it recorded this on Joan Jetts small record label. Financially and spiritually in turmoil. Nobody really heard it at the time but what a lost classic it is
@@JCStorm76 Nah. 1992/93/94 was the best time ever for heavy music - Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Tool, Danzig, Helmet, and of course Pantera, one of the greatest metal bands ever.
@@JCStorm76 That's when traditional metal (and also glam metal) died, but that genre had become stale and boring by 1984 anyway. The only good metal after 1984 was thrash metal and that genre was also becoming uninspired by 1989. The bands I mentioned above were a breath of fresh air for heavy music and deeper, darker and more soulful than traditional metal bands, and they wrote about personal and existential topics rather than juvenile swords and sorcery/fantasy lyrics. I love late 70's/early 80's traditional metal and mid-to-late 80's thrash metal, but after that metal had nothing new, unique or exciting to offer and had become really cheesy. And bands such as Soundgarden and Alice In Chains were very influenced by Sabbath and other metal bands, but they took that sound in awesome new directions.
I love Mike and the whole MC family of musicians. Everyone has made a fantastic contribution at one time or another. I've been a fan from the beginning and have met most of the guys who've been in the band. I think this record/CD needs a re-master and new cover... Then release it again. Great songs.
Metal Church is a great band from Aberdeen Seattle USA and they have a great HM-Thrash Metal sound vibe and they are very important for me.I have listened to all but my prefered is the debut Metal Church and this particular album Hanging In The Balance is not bad but good enough for my Metal Hunger.Metal Church is a fave band for me and Thrash Metal kickin' ass band. They mix Heavy with Thrash never repeating schemes or songs. In fact, they are METAL GODS!!! I've never heard Metal Church before, I just wanted to check this out because the singer was on Blabbermouth complaining about the shitty cover. Well, he was right, the cover is horrendous but wow, this is an excellent album! I'll have to check out more Metal Church now!
This ones good for sure but yeah you mentioned my two favorites although I drifted away from MC after The Human Factor. I tried to get back into them but without Wayne or Howe fronting I just had a hard time with it.
Metal church was a big part of my young adult music influences. This was a period of my life that the two back to back releases Human Factor and Hanging in the Balance changed my writing and my vocal approach. I saw your post on this ...I was looking to listen to this in my reflective moment and I had to chime in.

wow. This a undiscovered gem. They try so hard to get that first album vibe. The strange vocal parts. The lead guitar and its delay. Its then also a different thing as well. I am amazed by its depth. The usual arpeggios are all to hear. the succinct and to the point leads as ever are just perfect. They also thrash out at times. An amazing album that I did not give the time. That cover. Man I sold this album. Now I am hearing amazing songs.True metal anthemic stuff. An amazing album.
The band let all their frustration and disillusion shine through on this album. To me, is the best album of the Mike Howe era, but the last two albums with also had some good songs, but it was mostly hit and miss. My suggestions are Signal Path and Out of Balance. Also, there's a great song on Generation Nothing called Hits Keep Comin'. Great track from an uneven album.
I hated this record when it came out....was a big fan of David Wayne and didn't think this one was as heavy as the previous 2 with Mike Howe.....and the cover sucked so bad you didn't want to pick it up.....but like 25 years later I heard a bonus track, Low to Overdrive, that totally jams - and when I gave the whole thing another chance - I realized - greatness
snap! like some later Maiden, or early Priest, I only 'got' later in life. I wanted Blessing pt 2 and 3 at the time...but that was looong time ago. R.i.P. Mike Howe
so ready for the new album!! it's a shame that this album flew so low under the radar. The album cover was terrible.. it couldn't have helped.. But what a great album Hanging in the balance was
For me, the cover attracted me! Because it was so strange looking for back then. And even today too. But nonetheless I had to hear it when I saw it. It didn't defer me. In 1993 I was already 100% familiar with Metal Church and what they were about. So the cover didn't scare me away. It did the opposite. Anyway it ain't that bad! I like it actually. It's hilarious looking!
I got to hear you tonight I got to know that you care you got me down on my knees and I'm praying and I got to know you really there put on a smile and fake your way into another door but only if you've had more luck than a thousand times before a few more years a few more tears we,ll not be losers in the game! No one's born in hatred it's something that you learn what makes you hate someone skin or someone's race you must think you have more right to be living in this place I don't know what you feel but have you lost your mind? afraid to take a look at yourself afraid of the things you will find You're no friend of mine! Black and white and yellow living side-by-side we taught them children equal But your no friend of mine! See the castles burn and smoke In your mind and tears in your eyes as the world keeps turning A carousel horse who is constantly lost standing still but always running until you grow old and your mountains of gold couldn't buy you any more time☠ And all of those things that you've needed so bad you have found they mean nothing!
I’ve loved this album ever since it’s first release. You should check out the predecessor, Human Factor released in 1991. It’s 90s smart but 80s powerful! You might end up liking it even more.
R.I.P Mike Howe!

Totally agree. This is some of their best writing, honestly. Gonna miss Mike. I belive we should do a lot more to help those struggling with mental health issues & destroy the stigma attached to it to keep them with us longer.
Very well said.
Absolute quality album. RIP Mike Howe.
This is a great album for the ages. Metal f'n Church! !!!!
A true masterpiece 😍Awful cover artwork, but brilliant songs 🤘🔥🖤
Amazing album. Mike had such a kickass voice.

One of the best albums in metal . period !!!

There best album...so many strong songs.
I never understood that this is not in the top ten off any metal list.
Huh? I've seen it in many top tens. People who actually listen to metal (not rolling stone) have a high regard for this album.
I think this album's cover hurt this album.
@@waaaghboss64 I'd like to see the top ten lists you're referring.
+1. Album Cover shipwrecked sales
@@mikewingreen3001 Can't understand why. It's brilliant!
Rock on!
They need to remaster this and make a killer new cover and re-release it.
One of the best MC albums.
@@WhatDayIsItTrumpDay
Soundgarden and Alice In Chains were way darker and heavier than any 80's metal except for Metallica and Slayer.
I normally don't bother with reading the comments. It's always a bunch of silly cunts who hide behind the keys and complain rather than create art of their own. But after reading the comments here, it was awesome to see this band get the love and respect they've earned. Sort of restores my faith in our metal family.
Headbanging to it !!! Metal Church Forever !!!
Обложка не главное,а содержимое под ней!!!альбом патрясный🤘🤘🤘👍👍👍
Oooeeeefffff..... Listening to this with a heavy heart... Met Mike on their '94 european tour... Big thanks to my friend Toni of Megora for getting me backstage... By 1995 I had to deal with some personal stuff and metal in general was attached to that in a negative way... So skipped most metal out of my life for a loooong time... But this definately can be included again... One of the few metal bands that can make me cry with lyrics so sincere and a voice so strong. Mike, you're missed.
mike Howe is a classic metal singer\M/💀💀💀
Hard to believe he is gone. I was excited he came back to Metal Church. The band produce 3 albums. RIP....Mike we will truly miss you, but your music will live on.
R.I.P. Mike Howe 😪😪😪😪😪😪
best album by Metal Church
Felipe Cepollini Amen
I agree 1000%🤘
Negative! this is a good release but....... First album and the dark are a true classics and kick ass so much ass! obviously better than this...
My sentiments exactly! First album and The Dark are great albums from beginning to end. This and their other releases are okay, but lacking.
@@DougRagman and don't forget Blessing in Disguise! Just about as close to a masterpiece as you can get!
Band was on its knees practically when it recorded this on Joan Jetts small record label. Financially and spiritually in turmoil. Nobody really heard it at the time but what a lost classic it is
Adding further insult to injury, thrash was on its way out and the cover art is just HIDEOUS.
@@cidiose It is hideous and 1993/94 was an awful time for metal. Great album though
@@JCStorm76
Nah. 1992/93/94 was the best time ever for heavy music - Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Tool, Danzig, Helmet, and of course Pantera, one of the greatest metal bands ever.
@@dmitryowens You must be joking. That’s when metal died
@@JCStorm76
That's when traditional metal (and also glam metal) died, but that genre had become stale and boring by 1984 anyway.
Rest in Power Mike
Mike Howe was one of the best singers in metal I think I always looked forward to hearing him
Great 👍 thanks for this very good album 👏 😅😊
Mike, you are not a "Loser in the Game".
R.I.P.
Absolute masterpiece!!! Can't get enough of it!
Great album this

Metal Church is Metal Church so a great Metal band from Seattle
I've never heard Metal Church before, I just wanted to check this out because the singer was on Blabbermouth complaining about the shitty cover. Well, he was right, the cover is horrendous but wow, this is an excellent album! I'll have to check out more Metal Church now!
Man, there are better Metal Church albums than this one, try the first one, ot Blessing in Disguise you'll be a Metal Church fan forever
This ones good for sure but yeah you mentioned my two favorites although I drifted away from MC after The Human Factor. I tried to get back into them but without Wayne or Howe fronting I just had a hard time with it.
@@TheDanonino69 Love all the stuff, they r in the armored saint category to me....
I got a neighbor that looks like the album pat the movie.....
Metal church was a big part of my young adult music influences. This was a period of my life that the two back to back releases Human Factor and Hanging in the Balance changed my writing and my vocal approach.
I saw your post on this ...I was looking to listen to this in my reflective moment and I had to chime in.

Thanks for posting. Great Metal album.

Portada clásica de aquellos años!!! irreverente y "rockera"… gran disco! de mis preferidos, súper chingon!
Pedazo de disco !!! Maravilloso, sublime, imperecedero,y como suele suceder con las mejores obras,,bastante ignorado y ,ó ,sub valorado.
Is the pre-chorus to Losers in the game a tribute to Breaking the law? ;-) Rest in peace, Mike, awesome voice.
This album is soooooooo good. RIP Mike Howe. Slap this baby up on Spotify ffs.
Kirk Arrington should also be thanked for this album, for me he was the heart of Metal Church
What a fantastic album!!! I listened to this a lot in the mid-90's. Very meaningful to me still today.
It`s a good album, but,in my opinion ,the first album is the best of Metal Church!
one of their best killer album incredible feelings to listen it !!
This is some great metal music thanks for the upload!
METAL CHURCH COMO SIEMPRE, PRENDIDISIMO.
Amazing record!
I heart Mike.
I think 'The Black Things' from 'Damned If You Do' is a standout song
This is an awesome and rare album. I had the cassette, would love to find a copy of this.
I'm still hanging
in the balance
FIrst time hearing this and it's mostly awesome! ALbum art reminds me of Pink Bubbles in fact this whole vibe does. Thanks for the upload.
Love forever
Always have
Always will
Seem ‘em live in Adelaide early 90’s support group for Anthrax
Best freaking night 🖤
Uno de los grandes, tremendo disco..
R.i.P. Mike Howe
End of the Age 🖤
Интересный и разноплановый альбом, пожалуй, лучший у Метал Чукчи.
Не знаю, почему все гонят на обложку, но как по мне она очень даже прикольная!!!!
so ready for the new album!!
it's a shame that this album flew so low under the radar.
The album cover was terrible.. it couldn't have helped..
But what a great album Hanging in the balance was
I know! What is the deal on that? I skipped this one for a long time due to the cover.
Considerado el mejor album de Metal Church en toda la historia junto con Mike Howe. Que elegancia y brutalidad.
I want it on vinyl!!!
The South Korean pressing is the only one on vinyl. They rarely come up for sale and when they do they are not cheap.
I got to hear you tonight I got to know that you care you got me down on my knees and I'm praying and I got to know you really there put on a smile and fake your way into another door but only if you've had more luck than a thousand times before a few more years a few more tears we,ll not be losers in the game!
No one's born in hatred it's something that you learn what makes you hate someone skin or someone's race you must think you have more right to be living in this place I don't know what you feel but have you lost your mind? afraid to take a look at yourself afraid of the things you will find
You're no friend of mine! Black and white and yellow living side-by-side we taught them children equal
But your no friend of mine!
See the castles burn and smoke In your mind and tears in your
eyes as the world keeps turning
A carousel horse who is constantly lost standing still but always running until you grow old and your mountains of gold couldn't buy you any more time☠
And all of those things that you've needed so bad you have found they mean nothing!
R.I.P. Mike. Great voice sometimes reminds me of Geddy Lee.

I’ve loved this album ever since it’s first release. You should check out the predecessor, Human Factor released in 1991. It’s 90s smart but 80s powerful! You might end up liking it even more.
