About him starting not as the hero, but as the villain or in negative roles. The stories about that too are legendary. The new young actors of late 1980s & 1990s were ALL already there, some of them came from film family connections. SRK was not even in the picture that time. Then came this Northern guy SRK out of nowhere, he did TV shows for a little while before entering Bollywood(hindi movies). All the well known or new young stars had rejected the so called anti-hero or villain films/roles, because they thought with their huge egos, they thought those roles "wOuLd mAkE tHem lOoK bAd."
SRK signed all of them and BAMMM, he made them all blockbusters. He played the villain, but his villainous/negative roles became the most loved roles. Another super cool thing of his early days is that he signed FOUR FILMS IN ONE DAY, before his debut. I mean he wasn't a film actor before that, but when he got the opportunity, he signed 4 films in a single day!!
There are many many many such badass stories from his life. You'll love his sense of humour in his interviews etc, super intelligent & super humble guy. If you're wondering "he has some crazy fans" after reading my & others' comments, then let me tell you that you would know why if you get to know SRK's personality through his interviews, ted talk, or other public appearances(like the event with Brad Pitt or Jeff Bezos).

He is not just a movie star in India but around the world. I think only most Americans don't know about him but he has fans here in the US. He has a fan in me since 2001 who is non-Indian. He's awesome! He shot a few movies here in the US up to 2010. He was also detained in 2009 at the airport for more than 4 hours and then 2 more times I believe. It caused big outraged in India and was covered on CNN and other outlets because he was such a big star around the world because he was told his name was common and he said he was didn't want to ask them "common to what"
