    I've just picked up this stuff with a new WSM. Terrified about installing it cause I suck at arts-and-crafts sort of things, but this video gave me a bit of confidence (if this bloke did it, I can to!). Wish me luck - Can't wait to cook on this thing!

      You won't be disappointed mate, much easier smoking on a wsm than a kettle. The 47cm is a perfect size for home. 57cm are great for comps etc... Just don't go for the 37cm. Much too small haha

    I put the cajun bandit door and put the gaskets on the door in a similar manner. However , I did not put the lid gaskets . The improvement made a world of difference. For the first time , I was able to shut all the vents and cut off the air to the fire and save my coal for another day. In the past it would not cut off the fire because of the door leakage.

    Very helpful for installing door and gasket! Thank you! Only recommendation. Is would have made is try the door without the gasket first. I put the gasket around the door opening in my cylinder and then getting the door on is super tight. Wonder if I even needed the gasket

      Definitely a great upgrade for the wsm. There are others but I think these two really make the biggest difference on performance.

      Excellent! It makes a big difference to it and I think it helps with fuel consumption etc too

      Barbechoo - UK BBQ I just brought it a few weeks back and before I fire it up I wanted to check mods in our part of the world as alot is US , which is great however wanted to see who was doing this side of the pond and where to go. What would you do first on the smoker to get used to using it etc.

      My aim has been to use lumpwood for low and slow but it's hard to get a consistent long burn.
      I've done it a few times with decent results but this should help a lot

    I got the lavalock door. I haven’t installed it yet because I’m waiting on my paint and primer.
    Check out the chargriller hinge mod. There’s a video of it on TH-cam. Basically a $13 hinge

      the hinge mod would be super handy! The only thing that stopped me getting it is the covers don't fit over it and my wsm sits outside so has to be covered. I'm sure I could find a cover somewhere that fits it

    How is it 2yrs later? The biggest problem I have is when an out of round WSM, where the center and fire chamber join. I haven’t found a video yet where a gasket is installed there lol. If air is creeping in there, tamps will be wildly inconsistent.

    I’ve been thinking of getting a gasket for my 57cm Weber kettle lid have so will be interested to see how it works on your wsm.

      I'm lighting it up tomorrow so I'll see how it does... I still have some of the gasket tape left so will see if I have enough to do the kettle

    I'm about to get a WSM , saw the video , definitely going to get the door upgrade and wondered how you got on with the seal . Did it stay stuck to the door and beneath the lid or did you have any issues with it coming off . Cheers 👍

    Simple yet effective! I don't have a WSM but I do have a Weber 57 MT which i've smoked in on a couple of occasions. Do you think it's worth sealing up the around the lid for this too?

      Yea you can definitely do the kettle lid too... You can buy the gasket on its own from the website

    WSM Doesn’t seem very well built if you need to upgrade the door. What smoker do you recommend for under £500?

      There is a definite visible difference with the amount of smoke that gets out around the door and lid. I've noticed that the smoker uses much less fuel which is a bonus for those longer cooks. I've also been able to use lumpwood rather than briquettes without the temperature getting out of hand

    I'm working my way through your videos, so apologies if you've answered this already...
    but if you were buying again, would you get the 47cm or the 57 cm?
    looking to invest but not sure which to go for. the 57 looks a massive unit

      Thanks man! No regrets with 47cm at all. You can fit a lot of meat on it! I know a few guys with the 57cm and they all say it's a hungry beast with fuel. For me, the 47cm is the perfect size for most home cooks

      @@jaychet I can confirm what he said. I got the middle sized unit. No problems at all fitting full racks of ribs. You can fit a damn turkey on the bottom grill. Less fuel consumption on top of it. I think the largest one would have been unnecessary unless you are cooking for a large group.
