I use to fish there alot, never really see shad run like that. That was so cool to see. Great video! Brings back good old memories of the 80s fishing there!
Let me share a memory and see if anyone on here from my era had experienced the same superd fishing & can relate to the moment in time. It was early 90s to mid 90s. We caught many 30-40 inch fish with lures. During the dark of the night when we land a real monster fish or just any fish over 30 inches and dragged it onto a rocky shore line the fish will flop around so hard that sparks will fly everywhere from our treble hooks flinting on the rocks. I will never forget those magical moments in my fishing life time.
I didn’t fish that early but my friends and I used to reel in those monsters striper at the Dam in the middle of the night. when the Dam was still open for public, miss those days and nights fishing. San Luis Reservoir fishing was never the same again after they came up with all these rules
They closed off most dams after 911. They want control so I don't think they will open it back up. Those were definitely the nights! Hell I had my lucky number dam markers lol and it almost never fails at the marker numbers haha. Ah the good old nights that some anglers in this era will never experience.
@@MT-vm1zh the dam was my favorite place at SLR. When they closed it down it broke my heart just like a girl friend would. I remember a night at the dam where my group reeled in 9 fish over 40”, one of them was 49”. We didn’t have smart phones like how we had today, only Nokia phones or flip phones. Miss those days.
@@deerphoria4314no girl will ever break my heart, hell not even come close to the heartbreak they left me when they closed the dam off haha! We stop going not long thereafter for other reasons as well. I've only hit there twice in the last 10 years. The fishing is just not the same anymore. Aside from the breakins that sting operations need to punish those who commit crime against those who are trying to have an enjoyable weekend. Oh yea, and hell flip phones or nokias were later too. Back then we didn't have cells pbones yet. I used to carry them one time use cameras from walmart. Remember those, hahhh? I still have pics of our 30-40 inch fish from those days.
I’m sure will be great, there would be more action with quality fish after dark but most fishermen here stop fishing after dark, too many breaks into cars, gas tank drilled and worse
@@trussmoutdoorsthats sad to hear. We use to park overnight all the time without ever any problems. It needs a sting operation. Or more a personal sting operation. Gota get rid of the scumbags in life
I see you like high end shimano spinning reels, take a look at the 2023 vanquish, it’s a Stella without the weight. No play in the gearbox, low inertia, slow oscillating and it’s buttery smooth. I’ve tried the Vanford and it’s a good reel, but promptly returned it lol
Nice setup! If you don't me asking, what are the specs on your spinning rod? #fishon
10ft Medium Heavy, Fast Action
@trussmoutdoors , two piece? What brand? Thanks.

Lots of good action brother. What do you think of using the native shad as bait for bottom fishing in that spot.
