One theme of FMA is how terrible deceit is. Being tricky is one thing, but lies were the downfall of each of the villains. In fact, every homunculus that was killed by a human was deceitful in some way (yes, Sloth counts). In this way, by being open to his shittiness, Kimblee was capable of some form of redemption. By staying true to his own guns, he wound up having moral superiority over the worst... Even if those metaphorical guns were messed up beyond repair.
It's not really about morality as much as it is about sticking to principles. Kimblee may have been one crazy mf, but even he has stuck to his own, unlike Pride here.
He was not going to let Pride act like a hypocrite, which is what he was doing. He had all this babble about being superior to humans, being better, yet when he had the chance to either die a full blooded homonculus or possess a human, he chose the latter. What pride is that in your kind?

yuzay moto I think since philosopher's stones are made of human souls, Edward figured out that he could use the energy from his own soul to become a philosophers stone in order to pull out Prides true form. He did a similar thing when he healed himself after being impaled.

A litle late but in 2:03 oh my god that i love this kind of art style, the dramatized shadow and lighting with the thic ink makes it habe so much perosnality and intensity, reminds me of gurren lagan and specially gao gai gar
I feel another reason why he decided to help is because he definitely thought Edward and Alphonse will drop their pretense of getting their body back/achieve their goal without sacrificing anyone, but till the very end Edward and Alphonse stuck with their belief which I feel Kimberly in the end respected in his own way. The fact that when Pride thought he was going to get killed, he strongly retorted with a "You do not understand the Edward Elric!", showing he knows them VERY well now at this point.
An interesting detail is, Pride covered his broken face the whole time, refusing to give up his pride (he couldn`t accept lost), but when he decided to take up Ed`s body, he let his hand down, revealing his face and finally abandoned his pride for a lesser being that he looked down on just like Kimblee said
