I got my middle name from this song! My parents were so cool back in the 80s. They listened to The Cult, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, etc... It makes sense that I am a Goth myself, my parents were goths as well. I love Gothic rock!!!
Huh? I listened to every one of those bands and I'm not or ever have been even close to being Goth. The Cult is my second favorite band of all time though (Tool is #1).
Totally same! When I was a wee baby bat, y folks gave me Cure, Siouxsie, Bauhaus, Sisters, and Killing Joke records! Yay for parents who get and support us!
It actually does not make any sense. You are supposed to rebel from your parents interests. You should be a smelly hippy or insufferable poser gnagsta twit. Glad you broke the cycle.
Saw them at Leeds Uni (or Poly- cant remember now) supporting Bauhaus in 1982. Both bands were excellent- got talking to Ian Astbury after the gig and he got me back stage where I stood around looking awkward with the guys from SDC and Bauhaus for an hour. Will never forget it....
My brother was (still is) the bassist for the Not Sensibles (I'm in Love with Margaret Thatcher and The Bishop) who were backing the Southern Death Cult way back in the early 80's. My brother brought home one of the mixing desk recordings of one of the concerts they attended with early songs by Ian and his gang when they were still called The Southern Death Cult. Brilliant music. took my girlfriends to see the later Cult when Ian had the most amazing hair in the mid to late 80's. Agree with Fire woman, his voice was amazing.
Funny thing about Ian’s hair. I always thought I was the only one who liked it back then. I remember the ‘80 and ‘90s fondly. Got everything and anything by The Cult up until Beyond Good and Evil when the band was already in decline and running on fumes.
Cool :) Ian Astbury/The Cult isn’t really goth - it’s based on a Native American culture in the South East US. Check out the Ceremony album by The Cult. Anyway I’m not meaning to be pedantic and it’s good you enjoy this.
@@gypsylee73 SDC, Death Cult, and The Cult’s “Dreamtime” and “Love” albums are all goth classics. Anything after that, I agree is not goth. However there are small elements of post-punk/goth in some of their later work.
Nostalgic memories from a legendary band. I just had graduated high school when Sonic Temple album was released. Went straight to Wally World and made 2 great purchase, THE CULT & BANG TANGO .🔥🔥🔥♥️♥️♥️✌
My buddy worked with Ian at a restaurant back in the day when he lived here in Hamilton Ontario Canada. Always liked him, but most people didn't get him in the 70s.
The classic (famous) version is the official release from their ep, with the Indian on the cover. This was a demo version that was released after the band broke up.
Saw them support Bauhaus at Leeds Uni refectory at the back end of 1982 and was on the bus to Leeds a few days later to hunt down the LP-size single at either HMV or Virgin. Them wo't days!
the Cult is NOT this band re named.the lead singer formed an ENTIRELY different band just taking the word 'cult' along w him.the only other similarity being both bands kick ass
I remember being be at the gig in London where the Sisterhood became the Mission. I remember Wayne Hussey saying well thanks to Andrew Eldritch were are no longer called the Sisterhood and the banner on the stage saying Sisterhood was dropped to reveal their new name, The Mission and the band burst into a cover of the Iggy and the Stooges song 1969
I remember when this music was still considered punk, 'positive punk' they used to call it but at the same time the emerging OI bands were also given the same title by a rival music paper so supporters of both styles dropped the name and we ended up with Goth and OI, (the awful 'post punk' hadn't been invented yet) they should of just stuck with punk. From research for a mag/fanzine).
I already have the album, though I don't seem to have this version of the song Moya. (There are two versions of it upon the album though, so perhaps I do.) Best song this band, under whatever guise, ever did. Second best song is Sanctuary.

I have this Album for about six years now and have played it to Death. By the By I believe Southern Death Cult was an Native American Tribe in the Southwest United States.
IMO, this video could be improved by removing the title page. I know what it is: I searched for it, I clicked the correct link, I can read. I'd rather have been taken straight into this supremely atmospheric music.
Two spooky fellas once tried to convince me to join their band by playing this song. In truth they sounded surprisingly like the record because that too is utter shite. That said, a tab of acid and this on the iPod would probably be the ideal way to get into the mood for a bin bag suicide party 'eh?
I heard this song when I was14 and have been a fan ever since ❤ I'm now 57😊❤
Respect!!

Great bands all but the best show ever was the Cult live. Great time to grow up.
I know it's been ten years but fantastic to hear that!

Ian Astbury has the voice of an angel.
He's done some great great stuff with UNKLE,his voice has really stood up to the passage of time .
I agree :) I can't wait till their new album comes out!
Darien Lee
Yes always some intresting ideas with people you might not expect, experimental without being arty-farty .
+Darien Lee Yeah!
Yeah well i'm a hetero guy and i've always listed Astbury's unpretentious voice up there with Mick Jagger and Shaun Ryder.

2021 - this track is played on Planet Rock Radio . Bloody Great 👍
Great memories. Late seventies and eighties were such good times for music.
I hadn't been here since i was like 14 years old, i still remember the whole song 🖤
I will always be that 14 Year old Death Rocker kid.. now Ancient haha
now this brings back some amazing memories. how i miss the late 80's early 90's goth scene....
I don't class the cult as goth
JOSEPH Mysko Not anymore, but at one time the Cult were considered a goth supergroup, alongside their peers the Mission and the Sisters of Mercy.
This was early 80s
Gothic rock at it's finest.
Post punk

Ian Astbury is a legend! Billy too! Love all their stuff.

i was at that gig .good tour
Roger Lord ahh just getting Sisterhood in that market was a Mission...lol
Roger Lord we saw them Many times but the gay stuff. Was not on! Astbury your love! The man from Horbury bridge asking for your love?
Vou me gabar aqui! Hoje encontrei num sebo esse vinil, raríssimo e comprei. Tá louco, lindo demais
Excellent.
Haven't heard this for years
I have this album. I love this album.

I love the opening line to this tune
That is and was a hymn!💎
M,55,still listening to CROWDS by BAUHAUS.
Ariel pink recorded a cover version of this song. He has a lot of gothic and post-punk influences so fans of this would possibly be into his music
His voice is awesome

Fetish of Death he also took a few songs and reworked them into Spiritwalker and A Flower In The Desert when he was in the Cult, to name a couple.
Grandioso!!! Aquí comenzaba la historia de The Cult!!!
I love this song,my fave.

2:00
That's my favorite part
I love it all but specifically that part
I was brought here by Cate Wurtz, goth champion
It's interesting how both SDC and The Cult have gravitated towards Native American imagery...
Not a mystery though since Ian Astbury was the only common link between the different bands.
not true
Southern Death Cult isn't the same as Death Cult and The Cult. Death Cult and The Cult are supergroups and Southern Death Cult was a band.
Death Cult & SDC are essentially the same band. The Cults 1st LP Dreamtime is amazing - after that they decided to be ZZ Top and were dross. 🖤
Great music..
awesome track
Just beautiful :)
Good song!
❤❤❤
So perfect! 💀💀
@deSadetheImpaler - I THINK Billy Duffy was also in the SDC...
Nope.
Even though this was the goth era the Cult were always set aside and better than all that goth stuff they made real sense
It wasn't the goth era of The Cult. It wasn't any era of The Cult.
⛓️💥⛓️💥🖤🖤⛓️💥⛓️💥
They went from southern death cult to death cult to the cult.
No, they didn't.
I like this version, where can I find it?
My favorite Goth band Bahaus is great but SDC for the short life span they had made some great music
I already have the album. :)
What version is this? Because I can't find it on any of their officially released albums.
Can hear were Broadcast was influenced for "America's Boy"

I can't stand the cult. But Southern Death Cult is one of my favorite bands of all time. Despite having few songs, their potency is astounding.
Dec 19 the anniversary of wounded knee.
Christmas skiing trip?
29th actually
Yes, Astbury is the crown prince of Metal. The Cult is energy + art. I truly love them.
Hahaha. King of metal? That title belongs to ozzy, halford, Anselmo! ... the real kings of metal! 🚫
Flower of death...The Hiroshima rose.
after southern death cult came death cult.
Nah, they didn't.
nope, ian met billy in death cult, and went on to form the cult
Lyrics anyone?
Fucking right baby
