10:16 You MAY remove cards, but you are not obligated to remove a card you want to keep no matter how great the difference between you point value and the encounter's goal number.
Hello, at 20:09 you count your points as 1 ignoring the minus 2. So you have decided your points as 1. should it not be minus 1? That would make the life points you loose 5-(-1) which would be 6. Could you confirm?
tbh, it's been so long since i've played the game, i don't really remember. here's a link to the rules if you want to check it out: riograndegames.com/game/399-Friday
Just got this game and my understanding is when you failed a hazard card you have to lose lives which is the difference from the hazard card versus the fighting card(s). Correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks!
9:33 Shouldn't the 1 become 0 because of the scared effect? 17:08 Couldn't you use the destroy ability to get rid of the food card? Then the total would drop to 0 and you would have to destroy the Realization card too. So you could remove both cards from your deck.
cartoon80s90s regarding 9:33 he realizes that a few seconds later and does the right calculation... Regarding 17:08 if the uses Realization to destroy the food card he would be losing a card of value 1 that gives +1 life points to get rid of a card that can allow him to destroy cards that are much worse than that one... so that wouldn't be a very good move... it would be possible but not good
Paulo Renato I saw him fix the mistake he made with the scared effect, but I forgot to remove that line from my comment when I posted it. :) About the second suggestion, I mentioned it because he said he wanted to focus on cards with higher value which, in my opinion, is the right thing to do. From what I have seen so far from the game, life cards are important in early and mid game because that's when you lose a lot of encounters. This is going to happen in the late game as well if you are pulling value 1 cards when you need scores of 8+.
Can I just clarify at 20:09, you said you needed to lose 4 hot points. The target of 5 - (-2 + 1) = 6 so was that just some bad maths or have I misunderstood? Thanks
Rahdo, Thanks for another great video! Watching it today over a year later. But I have a question: I understood that you CAN destroy cards after loosing but you DON'T HAVE to. Is that right?
Mark McKay yes... he was at 0 at that time but since that wasn't the end of his turn and when he actually does the end calculation he does it right no notes were added
boggerblogger Yeah, he shouldn't be doing that. Technically, the player should never look through a face-down deck. The player is allowed to count the cards remaining but not turn any cards face up prior to drawing them.
PineleafNeedles yup, and i normally wouldn't look through the deck that way while playing... i was only doing it for the video to demonstrate the decision making process. In a real game, I'd be able to remember how many of each of the basic types of cards there are, because I my mind wouldn't be filled with filming considerations :)
sorry i havent played it over a half decade, so i don't remember specifics. but if you ask at boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/43570/friday/forums/0 you're sure to get a solid answer :)
don'targuewithme i had originally intended to, but it would have taken way too long... the longer i film, the more my brain starts to break down, and the more mistake laden my videos become...
***** +don'targuewithme I'd have liked to see the end of the game, too. Rahdo, couldn't you have fast-forwarded to the end phase? This way, we wouldn't have to see every single turn (or error *g*), but could have gotten a glimpse of the "end game".
19:57 When he uses the card to 1x Below the Deck, and he puts the card from the left side at the bottom of the deck, the rules say you get to draw one to replace it for free since it came from the left (free cards) side.
Paulo Renato it’s optional, basically below is the only power that frees up a free slot. Always below a +2 life since it is so valuable, but do it after you’ve used copies.
You made a huge rule mistake. When you decide to lose a fight, you HAVE to pay in food/life the amount of missing attack point. Then depending how many life you paid, you can then destroy bad cards to the amount of life point list, based on the life cost at the top right of the card. The way you are playing, you almost never lose life a make the game easier.
Guibsx not paying the life points on some occasions in the video was not done in purpose by Richard... he just forgot and when he did I made a note in the video saying that... Regarding the destroy cards when you lose a fight a note was already done also regarding that... Thanks
I never implied that Richard did this on purpose. As for annotations, I was watching this video on my iPhone/iPad and none were showing. Just wanted to point out the error in case someone would watch this and play the game wrong. The error is significant has it makes the game a lot easier, especially against pirate ships where you can just keep spending life to draw more cards.
Guibsx I wasn't saying you said it was on purpose... I was just saying that Richard explained it correctly in the game and played it correctly for the most time... that I saw he forgot to do it 2 or 3 times. I also mentioned the notes because I know that not everyone sees them due to device limitation, I also want to mention that they are always at the end of the description box of the video precisely for people that can't see them, that way they can read them and know what goofs were already spotted :)
A game of probability like Blackjack. You might want to remember how many -1 cards you have left. I’d probably take difficult tasks first to get rid of bad cards so I can keep good cards later unless it only require 0 point to succeed.
I don't know of a direct analog, but there are a lot of "roguelike" games. They have randomized setups, are tough, and you play them over and over again, trying to beat them. When you lose, you start over from the beginning. You probably want a turn-based game so it feels more like a boardgame. * FTL: Faster than Light * Tharsis * Darkest Dungeon I've only played the first one. It's pretty good, but it's hard.
I love your presentation! Count you please tell Me what am camera your using? I think you've got a good thing going heream, I'd like to post some videos of this quality ,
This game looks really fun but I feel like they missed an opportunity to add really fun and different goals to this. Of course they could add more with expansions but I think they could've simply diversified the goals.
Rahdo: YIIIIIIESSSSSS !!!!!! oh actually thats terrible :( ahahhahahah the legendary Jeff Rahdo Goldblum mechanics of this game are amazing, very interesting and hard game
David gg for instance at minute 11 he never paid the 3 life for failing... also constantly looking at deck is cheating, but helpful in teaching. Taking back draws is super cheating
Looking at the cards left and then reshuffling. Part of the game is when you put an aging card in that library when it runs out you aren't supposed to know what it is. So even though he reshuffles he can still see what the 'bad' aging card was.
Destroying cards after failing is not mandatory! So you can just destroy the ones you want to get rid of. Great you featured this awesome game!
10:16 You MAY remove cards, but you are not obligated to remove a card you want to keep no matter how great the difference between you point value and the encounter's goal number.
Futur TV noted... thanks :)
Loved the video. However, somewhere you mentioned a destroy card could destroy itself. The rules state that this is not allowed.
Thank you! So helpful. Excited to play!!
So what minute 9:28 when you drew the eating card weren't you supposed to stop drawing
At 19:55, after you place Eating below the deck, you have the option of drawing a card to replace it (since the Eating card came from the left side).
PineleafNeedles yes, he could but he probably doesn't want to because he doesn't want to be wasting more good cards on an already lost fight
Would it have been better @19:15 to have used the "destroy" ability to cancel the "stupid" card -2, it would then have been removed from the game.
no, cus it costed 2 lifes
Hello, at 20:09 you count your points as 1 ignoring the minus 2. So you have decided your points as 1. should it not be minus 1? That would make the life points you loose 5-(-1) which would be 6. Could you confirm?
A note about that was already in the video and in the description
Sry, saw that later, was watching without annotations first. Thanks for the video.
Best solo game. So freaking difficult! (Still can't beat level 4)
22:14 .. couldn't you of used the destroy card to get rid of the stupid -2 card?
tbh, it's been so long since i've played the game, i don't really remember. here's a link to the rules if you want to check it out: riograndegames.com/game/399-Friday

cartoon80s90s that's true but at this point he doesn't have that many good cards :)
10:50 shouldn't he have to pay 4 lives? Should he have to pay an extra life to destroy the aging card?
@@VesnaVK I think all of this is written in the klingon subtitles, please turn them on and check :)
Can I just clarify at 20:09, you said you needed to lose 4 hot points. The target of 5 - (-2 + 1) = 6 so was that just some bad maths or have I misunderstood? Thanks
It was already noted... When watching a Rahdo video, please turn on the Klingon subtitles to see where Richard goofs up… Thanks :)
Rahdo, Thanks for another great video! Watching it today over a year later. But I have a question: I understood that you CAN destroy cards after loosing but you DON'T HAVE to. Is that right?
i think that's correct, but tbh it's been quite awhile since i played the game...
At 9:35 Radho says he has a total of 1, but shouldn't the 'scared' card nullify that? And then would the mimicry be able to copy the nullified card?
Mark McKay yes... he was at 0 at that time but since that wasn't the end of his turn and when he actually does the end calculation he does it right no notes were added
The video was super helpful. I now know how to play the game and that you should never get shipwrecked with me or you'll die!
7:48 I'm not certain but I don't think you're supposed to look through the deck after adding an unseen aging card?
boggerblogger Yeah, he shouldn't be doing that.
Soo helpful thank you! Also great enthusiasm 😊
so if you draw one that says destroy 1 card do you have to use that power even if you don't want to use it?
sorry i havent played it over a half decade, so i don't remember specifics. but if you ask at boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/43570/friday/forums/0 you're sure to get a solid answer :)
i was enjoying the play through. please finish it all the way next time :)
don'targuewithme i had originally intended to, but it would have taken way too long... the longer i film, the more my brain starts to break down, and the more mistake laden my videos become...
we are all human, and all make mistakes. :)
***** +don'targuewithme I'd have liked to see the end of the game, too. Rahdo, couldn't you have fast-forwarded to the end phase? This way, we wouldn't have to see every single turn (or error *g*), but could have gotten a glimpse of the "end game".
Chri Scho just buy the damn game and play for yourself. It's worth it and costs about $10.
Just learning this game. On the cards that say "With the raft to the wreck", and the total needed is 0, do you HAVE to draw a card?
Yes. you have to play at least 1 card every turn
Thanks.
19:57 When he uses the card to 1x Below the Deck, and he puts the card from the left side at the bottom of the deck, the rules say you get to draw one to replace it for free since it came from the left (free cards) side.
Murr Rockstroh is that a choice the player makes or is it compulsory?
Paulo Renato it’s optional, basically below is the only power that frees up a free slot. Always below a +2 life since it is so valuable, but do it after you’ve used copies.
@Anifco67 true forgot that
You made a huge rule mistake. When you decide to lose a fight, you HAVE to pay in food/life the amount of missing attack point. Then depending how many life you paid, you can then destroy bad cards to the amount of life point list, based on the life cost at the top right of the card.

Can you use "Destroy" to get rid of aging cards? + How do you count points in the end of the game? (How to count failed events?) Thanks in advance
+loki665zx9 sorry to say i don't remember. however, here's the rules so you can check: riograndegames.com/getFile.php?id=584 :)
You can use the "Destroy" card to get rid of aging cards.
A game of probability like Blackjack. You might want to remember how many -1 cards you have left. I’d probably take difficult tasks first to get rid of bad cards so I can keep good cards later unless it only require 0 point to succeed.
So while choosing to face a 0 challenge during the green era, do you have to flip over a card or can you just choose to succeed?
emyhuggles you're required to draw at least one card every round
Ok, cool still a bit more strategy than how i'd been playing it. Always just drew the max allowed by card.
Do you know if there's another game like this or similar but for pc?
Thank you!!
sorry i have no idea!
The closest thing that comes to a survival game like this that I can think about would be a game called Frost.
you don't want that. You want to hold the cards in yor hands, it's the tactile feeling.
I don't know of a direct analog, but there are a lot of "roguelike" games. They have randomized setups, are tough, and you play them over and over again, trying to beat them. When you lose, you start over from the beginning. You probably want a turn-based game so it feels more like a boardgame.
* FTL: Faster than Light
* Tharsis
* Darkest Dungeon
I've only played the first one. It's pretty good, but it's hard.
Check out the indie survival game Gods will be Watching: www.kongregate.com/games/greyshock/gods-will-be-watching
I love your presentation! Count you please tell Me what am camera your using? I think you've got a good thing going heream, I'd like to post some videos of this quality ,
hi there, this was filmed with a sony pj650 i got used on ebay, and a cheap $20 lapel mic i bought online as well :)
yet another game ive bought because of your videos, just got it in the mail :)
Lol I was laughing the whole time.
You forgot to pay the life cost of 3 for getting rid of the 2 bad cards (1 aged, 1 normal)@10:55. How could you do that?
It was already noted... Please turn on the Klingon subtitles to see where Richard goofs up… Thanks :)
What a show!
This game looks really fun but I feel like they missed an opportunity to add really fun and different goals to this. Of course they could add more with expansions but I think they could've simply diversified the goals.
Looks awesome except I wish the challenge had more cars types
Rahdo: YIIIIIIESSSSSS !!!!!! oh actually thats terrible :(
ahahhahahah the legendary Jeff Rahdo Goldblum
mechanics of this game are amazing, very interesting and hard game
I like this game, but I am sooooo bad at it :( your runthrough makes me want to give it another try, but I know it will end in misery.
good game - nice runthrough
Yellow stage is yellow stage :)
Great play through! I'm also getting a copy of it, but in Chinese. :D
This was painful to watch, you cheat way too much
and then he Quit. Guess he only can play 2 player games, this one is solo.
how is he cheating ?
David gg for instance at minute 11 he never paid the 3 life for failing... also constantly looking at deck is cheating, but helpful in teaching. Taking back draws is super cheating
He also cheats himself
Looking at the cards left and then reshuffling. Part of the game is when you put an aging card in that library when it runs out you aren't supposed to know what it is. So even though he reshuffles he can still see what the 'bad' aging card was.
Too many mistakes... Would like to see you remake this video though as I love your videos.
this is like the blind leading the blind watching this you understand the game less than me.
