This is so stupid. If the Bears want all the revenue from all the events, than move to Arlington Heights and own the stadium, outright. You cannot have it both ways.
Pay for it on the own dime and they can have all the revenue also. They can’t get tax payer money and expect to own it outright. Davis only gets part of the revenue and none from other events that are held there like concerns. Tax payers own that building
As a Bears Fan, the taxpayers should not pay a CENT for this. The cheap McKaskeys can pay for it with loans. Tax Payers are still paying for the bill for the Soldier Field renovations from 20 years ago. Also if they want to lower the cost, move it away from the lake shore. That is prime real estate that could be used for condos and parks. Why are we still trying to build sports stadiums there?
So true. Lemme get this straight - They want the City of Chicago to GIVE them several billion dollars, make ton$ of money off the new development, and not give anything back? Umm, NO. (Yeah, it might actually be done that way elsewhere, but it still doesn’t make any sense).
Back in the gilded age, the millionaires (who’d be billionaires by today’s standards)would flex their wealth by building fancy things for the public. Grand Central Terminal is a great example. They should go back to that instead of asking for handouts.
The bears need to get outta Chicago and move to Arlington heights there they can have all the revenue from concerts, events, and Superbowls. They won't need to lease anything from the Chicago park district. They will own their own land . Seems better than paying a lease to the park district.
Other than a better view from the lake, it's closer to the Airport as well as the Hotels. If they want all those events knowing that people will fly into your City and you have your New Statium at Arlington Heights, you also need to build a lodging situation. Adn the public transportation is already built in the area. That's my guess.

Bears oughta just suck it up and go the Arlington Heights route, even if they can't get the sweet tax deal they so badly desire they'll have full control of their own stadium where they don't have to deal with the Chicago Park District anymore deciding what they can or can't do with their playing field.

As a season ticket holder and a local chicagian... the Bears can kick rocks with this shit offer. This is awful for the tax payers. Arlington is a better location all around. AND I'd closer to Ohare.
Also Schaumburg has a small single engine plane airport that private and charter planes can fly into. Small airport which would be 20 min away is a huge plus for small private planes.
Great video....I live in downtown Palatine (I'm 2.5 miles from Arlington Park and 1 Metra Train stop away).... I mention this to establish that I know the Chicagoland area well (have lived here all my life -- 44 years). The only thing I dispute that you said in this video is about a lakefront stadium being easier to access from "people flying into Chicago". Not true. Getting to that lakefront area is one of lifes greastest challenges. It's a cluster __k in that area. Arlington Park is only 13 miles (20 mins away) from O'Hare International Airport. Soldier Field is 19 miles from O'Hare but might as well be 40 miles (if you're driving). Arlington Park land is HUGE and there's a commuter train station right there on site. Literally...as the stop is called "Arlington Park". Problem with the Bears ownership is they aren't liquid cash wealthy. They are asset wealthy. They can't afford to pay for the stadium with their own money....well, they are unwilling to let's leave it at that. I would think they could seek private equity investment in exchange for cash but so far they seem unwilling to part ways with any of the main asset (that being the CHICAGO BEARS NFL team -- company if you will). It's a jazzed up situation at the moment and Kevin Warren is learning that people in this area are not stupid. He needs to come down to Earth and stop trying to gas light taxpayers.
First question - How does Chicago plan to pay for all of this considering it seems that their tax revenue base is shrinking? Second question - Why do so many places (cities and states) insist on paying for new stadium complexes that never seem to really pay for themselves? Also, I would point out that a domed stadiums means that the interior will last a whole lot longer than one exposed to the elements.
People are moving out of Chicago’s poorer more violent neighborhoods. More higher income college educated people are moving into the downtown area. I don’t think the tax base is shrinking.
The Packers have won FOUR Super Bowls while playing at Lambeau Filed. That's twice as many Super Bowls as the Bears have even been in! It proves that the Bears DO NOT NEED A NEW STADIUM to win it all. And once the ownership has other income streams, they are going to be even LESS MOTIVATED to have the Bears win championships.
Actually four times, if I read correctly. Packers have 4 Super Bowl wins, Bears have 1. I’ve heard many though say that that Soldier Field is a dump / bad shape and outdated. And as was said, an enclosed stadium allows it to be used more year round.
Majority of Bears fans, and the money are out in the suburbs, especially the West/Northwest suburbs. No one wants to go into the dumpy city of Chicago anymore. I'm old enough to remember whan Chicago was awesome and fun. It ain't no more. Its a dying city, no longer what it used to be. A Bears fan will be willing to spend thousand of dollars at a game in AH and just a few hundred at a game in the city. Thats the truth.
@@henryblackman1480 Majority of fans/season ticket holders/people with money live in the Northwest/Western/North suburbs. They would LOVE to travel to AH instead of driving all the way down to the city to an average stadium with no entertainment district. The traffif Soldier Field and the walk to the stadium is a pain in the ass. Chicago is dead bruv. Michigan Ave? Gone. Soldier Field area stadium will have no Bars/Hotels/Restuarants/Shops.
Around the proposed Sox park there will be a River walk, bike path and Water taxi stop. Linking Chinatown to the Loop. With lots of Condos, Restaurants, Bars and Shops to pay for it all. Maybe a hotel and betting parlor giving its close proximity to Chicago’s Union Station.
New Soldier Field is basically a completely new stadium that just happened to be built INSIDE old Soldier Field. YOU F___ IT UP so you play there for 50 years.
Need to have a clause that says if a billionaire owner wants to build a new stadium then they have to come up with the money. Making tax payers pay for your profits is why billionaires stay billionaires and everyone else stays broke. Only billionaires can get away with making others pay for their success. It’s actually insane
Chicago traffic is not that bad on weekends. From Ohare it should take about 15 minutes to get to Arlington. Less than 40 minutes to get to Soldier field. From Midway it’s 45 minutes to Arlington. 20 minutes to Soldier Field.
Predicting Soldier Field is 150 years old before it finally hosts its last game which could mean one last renovation and the grand and/or Great Grandchildren of members of the 1985 bears represent that team at the stadium's last game
FYI - the Arlington park site is 16 miles from Ohare, 18 minutes by car, 1 hour with public transit. On the other hand, Soldier Field is 21 miles from Ohare, 24 minutes with no traffic (which is rare), and 1 hour with public transit. Granted Midway is close to soldier field. Also the public transit from Ohare to Arlington Heights would be wonky suburban public transit, but I would not say Soldier Field is a better location for people flying into Chicago.
Another negative in the deal is the Bears refinancing the previous renovations debt into the new deal. The public would be basically paying for the previous reno twice.
Would be interesting to see where are the Bears in stadium game day fans come from. What % of the fans coming outside the tax base of those who are paying for the stadium. I would say the vast majority of Chicago citizens have never gone to games. The suburbs and people from other counties are the fan base. But they will not assume the cost.
Which is why you can possibly fund this with a .20c hotel tax. Let the visitors pay for it not the locals. Raiders did it that way, problem was the tax was not big enough to cover the increase in the Bonds that were issued.
If the Bears don't get it fixed then I can see them moving to St Louis and rename it to the Barons and the new Chicago owners will keep the name Bears and build the stadium in Arlington Heights and pay for it themselves
I don’t see a stalwarts like the Bears moving. I don’t think the NFL would approve it unless the stadium killing people with falling concrete. Chicago is too big a TV market for the NFL not to have a team in. St. Louis is a smaller market and the team value would decline, so I doubt they would ever consider it.
@@scotttildIsn’t that why the Rams left St. Louis? For money reasons ? And wasn’t there a breech of contract when the moved hence why there was a settlement a little while back?
@@RB01.10 You are comparing St. Louis to Chicago? Are you serious? Apples & Oranges and each one of those apples is the size of the Death Star. The Rams left St. Louis for the second largest market in the USA. They traded up, by a LOT. Ya don't trade down. Remember, that's what the Rams originally did and they weren't happy despite winning a Super Bowl in St. Louis, and what did they do? No, theres no train straight from ohares terminal building to Arlington Heights. You have to walk out the terminal and take a bus to a commuter rail line and it takes an hour to reach Arlington Heights. Youd have to take a 40-50 dollar uber to the stadium site . Otoh you can take the blue line straight to downtown in 30 minutes for 5 dollars and walk to soldier field.
@@ruiz1871 Who rides the train anyways? It would be a whole weekend affair that people would love as its all centrally located to the new stadium. Lakefront stadium cannot offer that.

It takes an hour to drive into Chicago from ohare during the workday sometimes more, the train takes 30 minutes, rain or shine, rush hour or 2am. The traffic getting in and out before games in traffic from Arlington Heights is gonna be awful. I thought this wouldn't upset Friends of the Park that much since the stadium is placed in a parking lot and more parkland will be placed there the stadium originally was.

People what makes the Arlington Heights location the most logical choice is that the Bears WILL OWN the stadium and the surrounding businesses on the property. Hotels/Bars/Restuarants/Condos/Stores will be owned by the Bears and they will pay the tax revenue to the city of AH and the County/State. The state would be willing to chip in some money for that because they can see that the entire Bears village will generate enough money to pay back the tax payers and employ 10x the amount of employees then a lakefront stadium would. The lakefront stadium and its new park district ball fields will not generate the amount of revenue to pay off the loans and provide the tax revenue to the state/city/count government. Also the Bears could entice investors to spend more money in Arlington Heights to build the stadium/village because they see the revenue potential. It has nothing to do with access to the area or anything like that. It helps but its about revenue generation.
The Arlington Heights site is a few miles away from one of the world’s largest shopping malls (Woodfield). You already have lots of bars, restaurants, retail, hotels in the area. In a Bears entertainment district businesses would struggle to stay open.

When the Bears pay off the 500 million dollars still owed on the last stadium then they should look at a new stadium. Honestly it’s a waste of money to build a new stadium old one was just renovated. I also hate going to the city.
Where is parking lot at the lakefront rendering? There isn't one. Screw the park district. They are also creedy bastards. Arlington makes more sense. Also building a doom. You won't see the lake.
People flying into Chicago already have to go along ways to get the soldier field at least if it's in Arlington and people fly in from Ohare airport, that's not a long way to go for travel. Midway airport is a drive either way.
I understand why the bears want to keep the revenue from off season events, it would be to pay the debit that’s still owed from the 2002 renovation, and the fee added to building this. And the Sox stadium. The State hasn’t been paying the bill at all. So of course I want to control the fees, you aren’t paying. That’s how the Vikings stadium was paired off so fast.
If they end up in Arlington Heights they need to use this architecture firm that made up the plans for the stadium in City of Chicago there is much more creative and unique plans for the stadium and love the C design on the roof and the design looks heck of a lot better than the original plans for Arlington Heights. I agree with someone's comment it looks like the original Arlington Heights plans look like a architect student drawn those plans up in an afternoon/ no creativity to their designs. No way for them to keep all the revenue will never happen. The Bears need to come up with their own funding and build a stadium in Arlington Heights with a new architecture firm that know how to design stadiums that look attractive, functional as well and being cost affective. The bears can get all the revenue to pay back their loans having a place they can rent out off season when there is not playing football and get all the revenue from concession, stadium souvenir shop and what not if they own their own stadium.
The NFL Upper Management wants this stadium to be built in Arlington Heights. The White Sox will join them at some point, should any State Money be given to both teams. Plus, at some point, the Bulls and Blackhawks will more than likely play off the lakefront and tear down the United Center and make that area a complete Medical Center..

If Chicago wants Superbowls and WrestleManias and final fours ... Yes they should. If they pay for the stadium i can understand not paying for the rest of the project
@depressedginger they’re building the parks because the lakefront is purely zoned for public projects, it’s not just for looks And goodwill. That’s why the bears lease from the city, because it’s parkland. That’s also why they explored Arlington Heights, they would own the stadium and be more lucrative. Regardless, the bears shouldn’t ask for any money to build the stadium or the demo of Soldier Field. Quite frankly, it’s a horrible pain to get to soldier field for games, so I think Arlington Heights is a slam dunk…especially knowing that it would be WAY closer to their HQ. Just my two cents.
If it’s publicly funded then the city should be the owners of the Stadium. The city should rent the stadium to the Bears and have the freedom to rent it to other events.
Why does every modern stadium keeps trying to copy AT&T. Like cmon get creative. Just bc AT&T was the first mega modern stadium in the world doesn’t mean we have to use it as a base. We don’t need no more big open windows in the endzones. It’s not unique anymore. As well as it having the possibility of putting your own team at a disadvantage because of the Sunrays/shades.
Why not build an open air stadium? It is cheaper and it give the Bears the Home Field advantage vs warm weather teams at the end of the season. Playoffs also

Cities just don’t get the revenue back to cover the bonds to make it worth it. Maybe they are figuring it out. The way to do is like Vikings made it work. They paid 1/2 the City issued bonds but the team was responsible for paying those bonds back and until they did the City got a cut of the revenue. THe Vikings paid off the Bonds 20 years early and now own the building outright. The city has no further obligations and the tax payers were not hit. A hotel tax is not unreadable because you make visitors pay for it ie the Raiders. Still tax payers should not have to pay for these things.
Since public money always seems to be needed to fund these things then the public should OWN the team and get all the revenue. Green Bay makes it work so can we.

Also Schaumburg has a small single engine plane airport that private and charter planes can fly into. Small airport which would be 20 min away is a huge plus for small private planes.
@@jeanmillburg3343 yes I have flown in their before small but good for general aviation.
The Patriots paid for their own stadium. Why can’t other teams do that?
49ers Rams did also
Trickle down economics made billionaires more greedy.
And domed stadiums can be used year round for other events versus only 8+ times a year. And I agree with you on the tax base issue.
Bears should build where the white Sox want to go. Make that a stadium district and leverage the parking and mass transit needs for BOTH STADIUMS

Need to have a clause that says if a billionaire owner wants to build a new stadium then they have to come up with the money. Making tax payers pay for your profits is why billionaires stay billionaires and everyone else stays broke. Only billionaires can get away with making others pay for their success. It’s actually insane
You stated the downtown stadium would be more accessible for people flying in. Actually AH is right next to the airport.
True
It's much harder if you're flying in to Midway
8:52 arlington heights is way closer to o'hare than downtown is. Midway is closer to downtown but is also much smaller airport
Chicago traffic is not that bad on weekends. From Ohare it should take about 15 minutes to get to Arlington. Less than 40 minutes to get to Soldier field.
From Midway it’s 45 minutes to Arlington. 20 minutes to Soldier Field.
FYI Arlington heights is very close to O'Hare airport, which makes travel significantly easier. Downtown Chicago is not close to any airport.
The Packers are Communists
The Bears should sign over 51% of the team to the taxpayers. They want to be partners right?
Same with all sports teams in America. Green Bay makes taxpayer ownership work.
Win first, build later
They have to put a park there because that land is federally protected by the U.S park service.
Another negative in the deal is the Bears refinancing the previous renovations debt into the new deal. The public would be basically paying for the previous reno twice.
Just go with Arlington heights
Lakefront deal will never go thru
Would be interesting to see where are the Bears in stadium game day fans come from. What % of the fans coming outside the tax base of those who are paying for the stadium. I would say the vast majority of Chicago citizens have never gone to games. The suburbs and people from other counties are the fan base. But they will not assume the cost.
Which is why you can possibly fund this with a .20c hotel tax. Let the visitors pay for it not the locals. Raiders did it that way, problem was the tax was not big enough to cover the increase in the Bonds that were issued.
The deal becomes more and more unreasonable as more details become available.
This stadium will never be built in Chicago.
Agreed
If the Bears don't get it fixed then I can see them moving to St Louis and rename it to the Barons and the new Chicago owners will keep the name Bears and build the stadium in Arlington Heights and pay for it themselves
I don’t see a stalwarts like the Bears moving. I don’t think the NFL would approve it unless the stadium killing people with falling concrete. No, theres no train straight from ohares terminal building to Arlington Heights. You have to walk out the terminal and take a bus to a commuter rail line and it takes an hour to reach Arlington Heights. Youd have to take a 40-50 dollar uber to the stadium site .

No more taxpayer funding to these stadiums. If as owner you dont want to fund? Then the NFL should be able to force you to sell to someone who will!

If Arlington Heights wants them, go there
The NFL Upper Management wants this stadium to be built in Arlington Heights. The White Sox will join them at some point, should any State Money be given to both teams.
