Girls statistically care less about how guys look than guys care about how girls look, and women have tended to be viewed through the lens not of what they can accomplish, but if they can look pretty doing it. Because of this, guys can be judged very harshly but their looks often aren't as large a part of that as their income, their physical fitness, their artistic ability, etc. Whereas girls tend to be judged, first and foremost, do their looks. So if a girl wants to change how a guy looks, it's usually just icing on the cake. If a guy wants to change how a girl looks, people assume he wants to change **her**, because culturally women Are their appearances, so wanting to change her looks would be a lot like just wanting a new girlfriend. None of this is to imply that this is how it should be. Just an attempt to understand the mindset. Being realistic, many guys have eating disorders and other side effects of having been judged by their appearances as well, and girls have a lot more to offer than how they look, so makeovers shouldn't be viewed as an insult to them any more than to a guy. All in all... it's kind of weird.

If the roles were reversed and the show consisted of a bunch of blokes sitting there and saying that they changed the appearance of a husbands wife because he didn't like her look and they show a "Holla back hologram" and everyone in the audience goes "ugh", the comment section wouldn't consist of "I think her dress is a little tight" or "they should've kept her hair longer" it would be full with comments claiming mysoginy and objectivication towards women I think that this obviously was done with consent of the man but I would wish for him being more in the spotlight because he is the one that's being made over. So kinda like queer-eye but it's pointed out that he's doing it for his partner because he wants it. The way that they have done it feels like the women is dropping her man of and says "I kinda like him but he is just too ugly for me. Please change him" like you would drop off your dog at the groomer
