    Great job. Would love a theory video on how you would reorganize the Nancy drew games to have the best play through experience game 1-33 for continuity, increasing difficulty, character development, etc.

    I always thought it was weird how Nancy was more compassionate in the earlier videos (sympathizing with Emily Crandall on them both having dead mothers) to the girl who insensitive to the death of the Shimuzu family's mother, making weird, elitist comments about Wade Thornton wearing boots, etc. Grrreat video, WK.

    Fascinating video! Let me present an argument for the ISTP angle. INTPs often struggle with chaotic external environments and lack initiative to follow up on their ideas, but Nancy gets immediately to the source of the problem and has the "stay calm" Se response. Also, ISTPs use Ni as their third function, so are one of the more intuitive sensing types. Especially in a Ti-Ni loop, they can come off as very intuitive until Se decides enough is enough and we have enough data to solve the mystery. Nancy is often surprised by the culprit reveals - auxiliary SE rushing in before tertiary Ni synthesized all the data.

    LOVED this!!! This was so fascinating. We all have spent so much time with Nancy, so it was really cool to analyze all we know about her. And in a weird way, I feel that many of us feel that WE truly are Nancy, since we get to make so many of her decisions in the game- so it was so neat to see how perhaps that plays a role in our gameplay & in her personality. Like in your mental health and ND video- we play ND to be be in a space where we can be brave, powerful and courageous!

    My theory why Nancy doesn’t age? She’s a time traveling vampire as we never see her reflection and no she does NOT sparkle 😆
    Also, I’ve always thought of Nancy as a Hufflepuff because they’re particularly good finders (points if you get that reference) And aloha-mora is her favorite spell because no more locked doors! 🗝

    Great video! I feel like we don't always focus too much on Nancy as compared to other characters because the games are made so that we are essentially stepping into her shoes. But she is an incredibly well developed character too. I agree with her being a classic Gryffindor, she has inspired me to be brave (what would nancy drew do?) when my Ravenclaw brain is telling me to not take any risks. I've always pegged nancy as an ISTP, but your case for INTP was well supported. For me, it seems nancy is more focused on the details and the here and now, making her a sensor.
    It would be cool to see more biography videos like for Bess, George, and Ned. And I fully support additional hogwarts house sorting! I think it would be interesting to see the roles of different houses on the plots, like what you did with the enneagram types. Which house has the majority of the bad guys for example.

    • @WizardKittenYT
      @WizardKittenYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nancy Drew seems to be to be one of the better characters that players can step into. Not because she's a blank slate but because she does have her own personality.
    A lot of games with the blank slate protagonists too often mess up by making the protag completely silent and giving them no personality. I can more easily sink into a character if they have a personality.
    I also love that Nancy Drew is a universal icon. It's amazing that females, males and enbies find her character appealing and that's awesome!
    Also I'll go with an Arglefumph comment
    Nancy is a cyborg. That's how she can shake off injury so quickly, lol

    My theory on why Nancy doesn’t age? Why it’s very simple! She lives and comes from a town founded in a non linear wormhole that allows her and her friends to be the same age with no one noticing! (Very similar to the theory on why the Simpsons don’t age)

    In some ways it doesn't pay to look too closely at the backstory, as it contains things they seem to be cagey about. Like, why is Nancy on permanent vacation? Secrets Can Kill said her school gave her a semester off (which was bizarre to begin with). The Secrets Can Kill Remastered retconned it so that she was called in (but not actually "employed") by Beech (no mention of the semester off in the Remastered game). In others, she goes on vacation and finds a mystery. In Haunted Mansion, Nancy ostensibly went to SF to help with renovation work (some vacation! Big Island Mike has nothing on Rose), not to solve a mystery.
    So is she a professional detective? Or an amateur one? Or neither, but just a teen on a long vacation who finds a lot of mysteries? Since time never advances, should we assume that all 32 games take place in the same semester? There might be a video in this. Take a look at every case, and categorize how she got involved in each one. Is there a progression, or is it random? She absolutely seems to be a pro in Phantom of Venice and Deadly Device. Did she start amateur, and go pro at some point in the series?

    • @GraemeCree
      @GraemeCree 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I jotted down a quick list. Make of this what you will, there must be a video in it.
      HOW THE CASES STARTED
      01 - Nancy goes to visit Aunt Eloise during a semester off.
      01b - An undercover detective asks Aunt Eloise to ask her out-of-state (?) teenage niece to help investigate Jake's death. (seriously?)
      02 - Nancy goes to visit Mattie.
      03 - Working vacation. Nancy called in to help with renovation work.
      04 - Nancy goes to Wisconsin on a ski vacation.
      05 - Visiting Maya to see a movie premiere. No mystery until Maya goes missing.
      06 - Nancy is deputy curator at Beech Hill.
      07 - Called in for a case by someone who refused to say what was going on.
      08 - Called in by Paula Santos to investigate strange goings-on. Nancy constantly gets "fired", but was never actually hired as such.
      09 - Nancy, George and Bess are all on a vacation to Snake Horse. No mystery until Katie's boat gets trashed. Nancy says she hasn't been on vacation in a long time (!).
      10 - Nancy, George and Bess were going to Shadow Ranch on vacation, and found a problem when Nancy arrived.
      11 - Nancy is asked by one of her neighbors to find out why her daughter in England is "practically bedridden". (I'm a detective, not a doctor, Jim!").
      12 - Nancy is called in by someone who doesn't say why they wanted her to come (like Ghost Dogs).
      13 - Nancy and other detectives are called in on a treasure hunt/historical mystery.
      14 - [First Casefile]. "Hired" by one of Minette's backers to see why Minette was acting erratically.
      15 - Goes to Hawaii to be Quigley's research assistant.
      16 - Called in by Chantal to investigate mysterious accidents. Is she working professionally? I thought they said she wasn't being paid, but Tino was.
      17 - Holiday in New Orleans, only goes to Henry's house as a favor to Ned.
      18 - Called in as a pro by Italian FBI.
      19 - Goes to Ireland to be maid of honor at a wedding.
      20 - Bess won a 5-day vacation and invites Nancy along.
      21 - Called in by Waverly Headmistress to investigate Black Cat Notes.
      22 - Hired by Krolmeister to investigate equipment meltdowns. Casefile uses the word "hired", so this is definitely a professional job.
      23 - Nancy takes another working vacation, this time to Japan where she'll teach English during the days. She heard a rumor that the ryokan was "scary" and resolves to "poke around". She's desperate for a mystery and grasping at straws, but no actual mystery exists at the start.
      24 - This is a headscratcher. There's a legend about a monster in the woods. Markus Boehm calls Nancy in to see if the legend is true? (The heck??)
      25 - Nancy goes home on vacation (staycation?) to play in the Clues Challenge. [Last casefile]
      26 - Not quite clear how this starts. Nancy goes to Egypt (why exactly?), then when she arrives, Boyle is attacked, so she investigates that.
      27 - Nancy is called in to investigate Niko's death.
      28 - Nancy is called in to investigate Jessalyn's kidnapping.
      29 - Nancy is called in by Cathedral to help investigate a cold case (i.e. Kate Drew's death).
      30 - Bess uses her copious TV connections to get Nancy and George a spot as contestants on a reality show.
      31 - Melina calls Nancy in to help with museum exhibits, but goes missing before Nancy arrives.
      32 - Called in by Dagny to find Magnus, and/or the missing treasure from the Heerlijkheid (if any).
      33 - Beats me, I slept all through that game.

      I know what you mean, it can be difficult to make sense of backstory sometimes when that isn't the main narrative focus!

    • @GraemeCree
      @GraemeCree 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WizardKittenYT Yeah, and sometimes the backstory can affect the way you view the character. For instance, I remember feeling a real pang of guilt when I first played Waverly, thinking that maybe Nancy could be a valedictorian too if she didn't spend her life on perpetual holiday.
      But wait a minute, maybe she's not just bumming around. Maybe she graduated somewhere along the line, and is a pro or semi-pro detective now? Whether or not she's a bum sort of affects how I view her. It would be nice if they'd tell us.
      Looking at this list, it does seem like in the later games she gets called in for cases more often, rather than just stumbling into them. Maybe she is a pro.

  • @karricompton

    I agree with you on just about everything, but I still don’t see Nancy as an introvert. She talks to literally everyone about literally everything. I know I, as a classic introvert, could never interview all those people and be comfortable. I think she definitely is energized by people and not drained by them, even though she doesn’t party or travel in groups.

    • @WizardKittenYT
      @WizardKittenYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I get what you mean! I honestly think she does all that talking to suspects because it's a necessity for her job, like how I talk to my coworkers all the time at work, even though I'm extremely introverted. That's why I mentioned that she doesn't seem to do it for the need to interact, but more for the information itself. But that's just my thought!
