    Look I apologised to the kid afterwards and he and his bike were fine and once I had stopped sulking I realised I was 50% to blame here...

    Some smaller kids may be trying it out for the first time, working out the ropes, doesn't help that a grown up comes a long and gets stroppy with them, will put them off. It's meant to be a place to inspire. I'd cut them some slack and be easy on them.

    • @TimFromWales

      I did cut them plenty of slack and what I didn’t film was me asking if he was ok and if his bike was ok too.
      And I’m not complaining too much, I even said later in the video that I don’t want to complain about kids on the track.
      I’d given these kids some pointers about the direction they should be going and id given them plenty of time to clear. They just stopped and watched me come towards them.
      This kid btw was on a bike way too big for him, not suited to the pump track and he had no helmet on or manners as had previously crashed into a few other kids himself cos the bike was too big for him to control.
      I visit loads of pump tracks and actually spend more time encouraging kids than I do riding myself.
      I’ll say it again I didn’t get stroppy - but this moment at the beginning of the video was pretty frustrating as it meant the end of my fun.

      Ive been injured badly twice because of dim kids on the pump track.
      One walked onto the track with his bike as i exited a corner at full speed.
      The other dropped in the wrong way off a berm.
      Both kids 10 and 13 years old were fine as i used collision avoidance techniques to avoid hurting them.

      @@natmol1595 at a pump track a few weeks back I was forced to stop as 3 kids just dropped in a berm in front of me - no one of them looked to see if anyone was coming and it was a very busy session too…

      They're kids, they're on a pump track and having fun, I understand if they're older kids that should know better but the simple fact is if you go at a weekend you'll never have a free run, that's just the way it is, I go before work in the week, even lunchtimes, if I have to get up super early then I will, but going at a weekend is asking for trouble and only leads to frustration. If you hate shoppers bumping into you while browsing the shops would you go to Oxford St in London on a Saturday morning? No. Like a quiet holiday? You wouldn't go to Ibiza etc. Find a sweet spot when it's empty.

      @@neilstevens9796 dude all of those things are great but - I live at least a 30 min drive from my nearest pump tracks and I walk my dogs before I go to work.
      I 100% agree with your suggestions but the weekends are the only time I get to visit these spots.

    I hope you took this opportunity to teach the kids pump track etiquette. If they are never told they won't know they are doing anything wrong.

    Looks like a very good track
    Jumps look amazing!
    As a dad it’s so funny seeing pump track and skate park drama 🎭. But very good life lessons 😂. Eg self defence, bully management, going the right direction, not stopping on a trail, resilience, hustling and how to jump!

    • @TimFromWales
      @TimFromWales  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree / this is a place where kids can grow in many ways. It’s unlike anything else in the park / everyone swings the same or goes down a slide the same, but a skate park rail, bowl or pump track jump and suddenly you have a huge variation in skills and abilities. And I’m not even near the top end of that scale!!!

      @@velomech8139 What I'm getting at here is that the term "snake" is more appropriate here. Not all 8 year olds being dropped off at the skatepark or pump track are on scooters. And the majority of the time it's their parents fault. They're just brainless children wandering around, they're too young to even be in an area like that because they can't detect their own surroundings. Parents should just take them to an empty parking lot or something if the only thing they're going to do is get in people's way. I'm a part of the scooter and MTB community and my park is flooded with little kids every weekend. Just because I push two wheels doesn't mean I'm unaware of my surroundings. It just really ticks me off that people stereotype us as snakes.

    Community builds pump track for the kids. Adults go and cry about kids being there.

    • @TimFromWales
      @TimFromWales  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No one’s crying mate / these kids are lucky it’s an adult complaining and not a bigger kid pushing them about.
      I don’t disagree that communities have these built with kids in mind, and a lot of the campaigns will use kids as the reason they should be built, but behind many of these builds especially by the likes of Velosolutions are usually a bunch of adults wanting the facility built.
      The kids don’t know what they are doing and often end up getting hurt.
      And if you watched the video you’ll see I say I try not to complain about the kids being there, but just stopping in the middle of a track helps no one.

  • @bikdav

    I don’t understand the rider’s attitude. It’s was kids who showed me how to use a pump track.

      I don’t blame the kids - I didn’t blame the kids and I said at the end of the video it’s hard to complain about kids in the pump track. I was just frustrated that because of kids on the track my fun was brought to an end.

  • @DadDoesRacing
    @DadDoesRacing 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    That puncture was your own fault. Look where you're going rather than looking who to blame.

    • @TimFromWales
      @TimFromWales  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did look and saw where they were. The finish is 10 feet away and they should have been well clear of the track before I got there. and those berms and rollers are quite tight to each other so it’s hard for me to look too far beyond the next obstacle. So I foolishly assumed they’d have completed the lap.
      I’m not saying I’m not partially to blame here but the kids just sat and watched me come around the corner rather than get out of the way. It’s not clear in this video but I can tell you he was just looking over his shoulder.
      If he’d been on a bike that was the right size, he probably could have moved quicker. But the bike is at least 1 size too big him.
      But thanks for commenting your opinion is valid and most welcome
