As many times as I've watched Ryan shoot 300 in league... couple times against me... it's awesome looking back and seeing him shoot on TV. Still the best PBA bowler without a major IMO. Guy is awesome to watch in person on the daily. Makes a house shot look so so easy.
Agreed. He made Thirteen major stepladders that's extremely good. Also joining history in bowling this televised 300. Even only winning a few titles he's made a big impact. Definitely one of my all time favorites.
Never knew that Ryan Shafer bowled a televised 300. He is certainly one of the finest bowlers of our time, and, yes, underrated. I always pull for him.
You may have seen that the announcer stated that this was the 18th, not 19th, TV 300. The reason is that on May 3, 1997, Jason Queen bowled a TV 300 at the ABC (Bud Light) Masters in Huntsville, AL. However, that event was not sanctioned as an official PBA event at the time. In May 2008, the PBA retroactively upgraded the Masters to PBA event status, and statistics for all PBA members were adjusted accordingly. One of those stats, of course, was Queen's 300, so every TV 300 between Queen's achievement and the May 2008 retroactive upgrade (eight total) was shifted back by one. Hope that clears the confusion.
Not to be overlooked, Ryan's timing in history indicates that he endured multiple major changes in bowling. The transitions from wood lanes and approaches, long oil patterns, short oil, plastic equipment, 3 piece urethane, 2 piece urethane, reactive resin, I can go further.
Amazing that he only has 5 titles. He made so many finals and so many finals in majors. He should have at least 10 titles and a couple of majors and be hall of fame eligible
Now, before I say this, I think Ryan Shafer is easily the most underrated and under appreciated bowler ever. He probably should be a hall of famer due to his incredible performance in majors, despite never winning one. But here’s something lousy-he actually lost the Title Match. After a double to start, things fell apart for him against Norm Duke.

Easily the most underappreciated and underrated PBA bowler of all time. He only won five titles, but he’s easily one of the better bowlers out there

I totally agree with you. I've always rooted for Ryan Shafer; he is, to this day, an exceptional bowler.
Hard to believe this is 2007, looks like everyone is stuck in the 90s

Chris Barnes said that Jeff Carter had the advantage, and Ryan Shafer shoots a 300.
Great observation, Chris.

Such an amazing talent. I swear Shaffer and Chris Barnes had the worst luck sometimes. Just uncalled for bad breaks that cost them championships
He might not be able to get a major but he can get those 300s
Not many people know, Ryan Shafer get 300 on tv 2x.They only remember Wes Malott, Francois Lavoie and Sean Rash.
It wasn't a title.
He's not afraid to take chances, guys.
Didn’t know Shafer bowled 300 on TV.
Did they say he averages 260?!?!
Yes he averaged 261 in league, which at the time was the highest sanctioned average ever.
It still is
Damn I can barely average 180

Try moving over a couple of boards.
@@Kmadams_97 he also threw over 20 perfect games during the year he established that average.
