“ I’m a thumbs down, but let me drink some more!” Favorite quote from the channel so far
I definitely had a good laugh at that one
They asked Whistle Pig for some advice on pricing.
😂😂
I can’t fathom paying more than like $150 for any bottle. I feel like there will be SOMETHING comparable at a much lower price point
Same. I haven’t spent more than $99.99 pretax on any bottle. I’d go up to $150 on a special release but no more.
I feel that but $100 is my max
I have not paid about $50 yet and I have a lot of good bottles
You have amazing friends if they will share with you some of a 500 bottle
My answer to your question: Has Buffalo Trace Absolutely Lost Their Minds? YES! In this pricing - yes.
I can't see very many if any people spending $500+ on this bottle, having a pour and saying "wow that was money well spent".
As the fool that spent $500 on it (which is MSRP), I can assure everyone it is not worth it 😂
😂😂 but boy oh boy did it make for some great content!
@@stuffandwhiskeyagreed! Your contributions to the blind sample poil are greatly appreciated by viewers like me.
There 100% needs to be a t-shirt that has the Stuff and Whiskey logo on the front, and the back should say in all caps, "THANKS BILL AND DELIA!"
The contributions you two make are incredible. Please do a video taped tour of their collection. It must be unbelievable!
In a blind, 99.9% of people won't find any bottle worth $500. That percentage drops significantly when they know what they're drinking 😂 .
There's too much good bourbon under $100 to even consider paying more for. Have they lost their mind? no because they know there's those that will buy it
3:00 Erin, remember that not all who wander are lost. 🙂
Buffalo Trace Buffalo Tracin
I like this
Wow. Just wow. I tried Maker's Mark cast strength yesterday and I'd rather have 11 bottles of that. Or nine bottles of rare breed. Or 25 bottles of Evan Williams bottled in bond or 20 bottles of Early Times bottled in bond
Yes, yes they have....and I haven't watched the video yet. 😂
😂😂
Old emmer cask strength is the same wheat strain at a higher proof and the same age for 50 bucks.
Interesting! Never heard of that but looks like it’s in stock locally. May have to give it a shot.
@@stuffandwhiskey its honestly really good.
That's interesting. The Emmer I'm seeing is through Total Wine Spirits Direct and as far as I can tell they don't say who distilled it for them.
@@Jodierob7 idk who makes it, but its the same wheat strain
One of my favorite cask strengths for the price and the fact I can get it anytime
Sounds like one of those absurd cash grab releases that have become all too common from some of the larger distilleries. For $500 I better hear angels sing after the second sip.
toe jam, pencil eraser, yummy.🤣 Bufflow Trace jumped the shark on its marketing a wheater with no age statement.
Shirt game so strong Josh! 💪🏻
🙏🙏
Erin, “stinky feet“, am I taking crazy pills, because I thought that is the wheater note lol
Buffalo Trace sounds like deer sign
Well let’s just say when I saw the price of this release, I was an automatic OUT but after this review I wouldn’t even buy a pour at a bar. Cheers
Finally, the Stinky Feet have come back to S&W! OY, $500 is a hard NO for me. No age statement, undisclosed mashbill...even more no. Have to admit, with the price tag plus your opinions, there is no FOMO for this bottle.
Ok, Josh. Is that shirt a silkscreen or a vinyl style transfer that is too hot to wear in summer? I'm digging it.
GREAT question! I've been wearing them in the TN heat (+80º, +80% humidity) and haven't had any issues with them being too hot. They're full color DTG direct-to-garmet printing. It's like the ink is infused within the fabric of the shirt, but the shirt is still soft to the touch inside.
I was tasting my bottle of Daniel Weller, and I was really impressed with it! Suddenly, I was awakened from my dream, and was told that it cost an arm, leg, and first-born child. I keep repeating to myself, "There's no MO like FOMO,...There's no MO like FOMO!" Nonetheless, great show as always! Cheers!
Yes, they’ve lost their minds! 😂
No, they haven’t lost their minds. They know exactly what they’re doing. I think they’re the second most hyped whisk(e)y besides Macallan. And Diageo is amazing at marketing. No other distillery has people lining up 100’s deep EVERY DAY to maybe buy a $70 bottle of Blanton’s, and most of the time end up with a $30 Weller SR or $40 ER. Even a lot of whiskey social media posting is about something Buffalo Trace related.
I’m the KING at overpaying for bottles, but F (forget) that bottle!! 😂
This one is an EASY pass!
I was fortunate enough to try DW at a local bar tasting event along with WLW and THH. The DW was by far the most boring pour I’ve ever had, when including value into the equation. I find most BT hyped releases to be boring. Love GTS tho, and WLW has been good to great at times. SJR is hit or miss. WFP is generally good. PVW15 I find excellent, but pricy.
We’re in lockstep on the Buffalo Trace bottles that actually move the needle for us as well. My man. 👊
Try Old Emmer cask strength. $50 to $60 and tastes great. It's bourbon with Emmer wheat as the flavoring grain. Buffalo Trace is just greedy
Can’t wait for your review on the Weller millennium bottle that is 7500. Yes BT has lost their minds. Again their marketing team is just killing it with overpriced not so good of juice for their customers and some are taking the bait and running with it. One would think that at some point people will have to realize they are being played. Or we should think so cause I certainly don’t go after anything from BT. But we shall see. I’m already seeing reviews for this new bottle and the look of dissatisfaction and regret on their faces. Just saying. Enjoy!!
You have to wonder if Buffalo Trace is following the Macallan model.
I tried this at a bar the other day. I had some money burning a hole in my purse, and I asked the bartender at the local whisky bar to recommend something expensive that she thought was interesting. Every now and then, I like to blow some money like this and try out something that I ordinarily wouldn't. Its flavor profile was just right for me, and I found it to be somewhat more interesting than the average bourbon. The flavor grain is emmer wheat, which is a very old varietal that is associated with the beginning of agriculture. I don't think it is all that difficult to grow, but I'm sure yields wouldn't match modern industrial wheat. Supposedly, they plan to use different varietals of wheat in future releases. Hopefully other producers will work with heirloom wheat varietals and not charge so much money. I would like to see these varietals used in wheat whisky with a low age statement so that the taste of the grain comes forward. I think the use of heirloom and ancient grains is potentially a good way to diversify whisky. In Mexico, they are working with indigenous varietals of corn, resulting in some interesting corn whiskies. These are well worth trying if you see them.
This bourbon is good, but it is not $500 good. Buffalo Trace is weird. On some bottles, they set the suggested price too low, and the bottles get hyped up and either disappear from shelves or get marked way up to more than they are worth. On others, they set the price too high. Aside from those few times when I want to splurge on something at a bar to satisfy my curiosity, I'll pay what I think something is worth for its quality and its age statement. In the case of Daniel Weller, I thought there was a higher than usual level of complexity on the flavor, and the finish was better than usual for bourbon, but it was still well within stylistic expectations for Kentucky bourbon. If it was priced somewhere in the $100-$200 range, I would probably buy it, but it doesn't have enough unique character to justify $200+.
Well said all around, as usual Heather. Thanks for always watching and for the thoughtful comments! Cheers!
Compare it to kosher wheat
We liked Kosher wheat a LOT more when we had it blind.
Buffalo trace gonna buffalo trace 🤷♂️
What is your unbonnest opinion?🤣
Great video! I forgot this bottle existed. I have very little to zero interest in this bottle or supporting these silly releases.
Buffalo Trace is starting to get annoying and I’m not buying anymore for awhile
I'm a thumbs down for $500🥃👎
initial impression seems awful, gross
