Drop the ruger in a Boyd’s thumbhole stock, add a muzzle break, and swap the trigger like you did on the 700 and you’ll have a valid comparison

Still won't do it... the 700 action is machined from military grade ordinance steel which is a stronger and more expensive in production than the investment casting of the American... that's why the 700 has won enough Gold Medals they could fill the Ruger factory with them

I agree not fair comparison at all ,do the same upgrades to the ruger and it will run circles around that 700 for a lot less money!!

Couple of things to point out in this review. 1. The Remington 700 in the video got a stock, trigger, and muzzle brake upgrade. The Ruger American was bare bone stock. Basically $450 vs. $900+ rifle. 2. The term "budget" is subjective since one can have more than $450 budget. Affordable is a better term. Lastly, as technology progresses, rifles become better and more affordable. The bar gets raised. The 700 is based on a proven but old technology versus the RA which is newer technology at a more affordable price. Everything pointed out about the Ruger American, I do not experience, with the exception of the zipper sound the action makes. I own both rifles. Take away all the upgrades made on the 700, the RA is the true winner. My RA has a smooth action and does not bind. The trigger feels like a two stage trigger with the trigger safety and breaks clean at 3.5lbs as advertised. Depending on ammo, I shoot sub MOA at 100yds. Not to mention that the RA has a cold hammer forged barrel, threaded and free fluted out of the box with a 3 lug bolt design that throws at 70 degrees. For $450, that's impressive. Quite frankly, the only thing you're paying for with the 700 is the action. Aside from that, the RA beats the 700 hands down. Not trying to be rude, but it seems that you already made up your mind before the video was even made.

hi Mr Fil-Am, thanks for the feedback. you could say my mind was made up before the video, as ,such as I winged the script the intent was already decided. Putting the Rem100 in a Boyd's stock (with Pillar bedding) adds a plus to the accuracy for sure, without that being done the accuracy of the rem700 would have been a bit less so. (but still not as bad as the Ruger American) like I've said before one rifle being inaccurate means little its about looking at many other reviews for getting a good idea of that.

My Ruger American is chambered in .308 and shoots half minute groups consistently. That being said, mine also doesn’t have the issues with bolt binding that yours had in the review, so maybe there’s something faulty there. Great review, and I have lots of experience with both Ruger and REM.
IMO the REM is a better platform. I used Timney triggers on my rems.
My First Ruger American bought in 243. 75% of most brands of ammo did not work the chamber was .002 short and the bolt would crush the shells.
Ruger did replace then I sold it.
The rem I scope with leupold QR mounts and rings. They return to 1/2 MOA every time.
One thing I did find is that the Weatherby vanguard 2 is better than both of the aforementioned.
Yes I know who makes the Weatherby and hands down better in every way.
Keep the reviews coming great job.
As an aside I teach Quality measuring and write curriculum so I understand quality.
All are great companies however and glad we have the choice.

The Remington hinged magazine plate is classic and been around for several decades. Remington: Dumping rounds on the ground since 1908. Made that one up people. It will be fine.
Still better than a rifle a friend of my brother had back in the late 90s. I believe it was chambered in 280 Remington. I don't recall the model rifle. Anywhoo ... that rifle didn't have a hinged magazine plate. Instead you had to cycle all the rounds through the chamber into a pile on the tailgate or into someones hat. That was fun.

Honestly your comparison really was not fair to the Ruger at all. You had the Boyds stock on the Remington and even used an aftermarket brake. The Ruger could have had a Boyd's stock upgrade with the AI mag upgrade and a muzzle brake and still come in lower priced than the Remington without the upgrades. I did purchase the Ruger in a 308. I have Remington 700's as well and Boyd's stocks on a couple of my rifles as well. It would be good for people to know that all you need to do with the Ruger on the zipper sounding bolt is to just grease the hell out of it with a good grease and just wipe it down well. It's amazing what a little grease can do. Put a Boyd's stock on the Ruger with the AI kit, with a brake and run your test all over again. All you need to do with the Ruger trigger is get an aftermarket reduced spring or replace the spring with that of a ball point pen the same size and just cut it to the same length as the Ruger factory spring. I suspect to torque on the Ruger stock might not be right on your test rifle. And one needs to take off the AI mag release to get to it. Kind of a pain in the butt. But if the torque is not right you can't expect it to shoot good groups. Nice opinion video, but honestly not fair at all. Hey, I love all my rifles. I have Remington's, Ruger's, Brownings, CVA's, Winchesters and a Marlin.

Even though the Remington had some aftermarket parts, I still think it's a good review. Thanks Epik Arms. The Remington does have upgrades, but they mostly just improve the comfort of using the rifle, not the inherent qualities of the action itself. I have versions of both rifles and I like them, although the Remington actions are far smoother. The Ruger action has a noticeable coarseness to it, and I also had the same slight binding when the bolt was not pushed directly forward, as mentioned in the video.
The Ruger is still a fine rifle, but it could use better finish in the action. Since the Remington pattern has so many aftermarket options, like triggers, new barrels with just a barrel nut, and tons of replacement stocks, my preference is still for the Remington. If you're not going to make any upgrades and will hunt with the rifle as-is, then it's hard to beat the features you get at a lower cost with the Ruger.

On the Ruger American adjustable trigger there is an aftermarket lighter spring for the trigger that reduces it substantially. On the Remington I am not familiar with the newer triggers on them. I have some Sendero's I bought a very long time ago and was able to get trigger pulls down to 1 lb. with the factory triggers with zero creep by putting in a light spring and making adjustments. Did stone the trigger as well. But Remington got a lawsuit over those triggers, and they most likely have a different trigger they now use. I never had any safety issues with the triggers on my Sendero's in 220 Swift and 300 Win Mag. Had gunsmith put brakes on both of them. Can see the bullet hit target with the 220 Swift and the 300 Win Mag has super light recoil now. Nice video and very fail assessment of the rifles.

I have both the predator in 6.5 cm and an older 700 bdl in a 270. Hands down the ruger is the more accurate shooter at 100 yards, although the 700 shoots well too. I wonder if the ruger being tested here is not a a bit of a lemon? Either that or I just got lucky. Anyone, I really enjoyed this comparison. Great video once again.

I really love both of these rifles and have experience with both. Ruger American by far best shooting budget rifle out there... would be a great go to hunting set up. Light and compact with great actions. Rem 700 isnt a slouch either. Very accurate but More expensive and heavier with a worse finish that rusts easily IMO. If you want a rifle to take in the woods and shoot anything, ruger american will get it done right out of the box. want a gun you are expecting to put some money in to make a great bench rifle or bipod rifle get the rem 700.

Not to pile on but for nearly the cost of the add-on accessories you could nearly buy the Ruger. Nevermind that the Remington everywhere I've seen if it is double the MSRP to begin with... For my needs I would happily take the Remington but for what it would cost to match where you were running it I'd be better off waiting for a Tikka Varmint.
I'd have thought maybe an Axis vs American would be a better comparison. I'm begrudgingly looking at the two of them in a BA 223 as choices for that on even a sub-$1k budget are poor or impossible to find.

An SD of 15fps for the Ruger? Not sure if you’ve got a lemon of a Ruger or if your reloading practices could be improved. If you can’t get that Ruger to shoot 1/2” groups at 100 yards with good handloads, a good shooter, and some DIY projects like barrel channel clearance, reduce trigger weight to 2-2.5 pounds, and get a solid cheek weld by raising it some way, then you got a lemon.

  • @gunner4373

I have both rifles, multiple models and calibers. I think the rumor is because the 2008-2020 remington rifles had horrific quality control and 9 out of 10 were complete junk. Mine are slightly earlier models but I had a 2009 model that you could only shoot once because the shells wouldn't eject even if you used a hammer on your bolt handle lol. All my Americans are sub moa with all ammo. They do have the machine marks and action sound, but they all shoot lights out, better than any 700 I own or have ever owned. I also had to send 3 of my 700's back for the recalled x mark pro triggers.

  • @AlHerm12fv
    @AlHerm12fv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The Cabela's/Bass Pro exclusive Savage 12FV is the true king of budget long range shooting. The biggest downfall is the blind mag and the injection molded stock which isn't actually that horrible. I believe those are completely offset by Savages accutrigger that can be turned down to around 2lbs. And the accuracy of the 26" varmint barrel. And all at the $420 price US it's definitely worth a look!

    • @primsolllineguy8689

I 100% agree with you. The barrels triggers and even the stock are good.
I love the 204 Ruger round in my FV it really drives tacks.
When I first got into hunting I learned quickly that good optics is where to put my money.
When you find the rifles signature it will keep going there if you feed it consistent loads .
With that I can get sub MOA with a good scope on a less that 500$ rifle.
I will say this that th3 Weatherby vanguard 2 series of rifles are absolutely drop dead accurate and not even free floated.
I now has absolute confidence in them simply the best for the money. Plus the triggers are incredible.
