When I see something in black and white I always feel a sense of detachment, as if it wasn't really real or as relatable. But seeing it like this in colour makes it feel real, relatable and vibrant and I could see myself there. Great work
People cared and structures were built to inspire and last. Now we have all this modern machinery and we build gaudy metal and glass monstrosities that aren't meant to last.
Just imagine that this architecture in the video is still untouched today with all the modern elements hidden inside those beautiful buildings. Would've been a wonderful experience to see when traveling to Paris. What a shame. 😔

@@pomponi0 Nope. It would say in the title if it's stabilized. Look at the whole catalogue and follow the naming scheme. And it's not like I'm asking much from modern tech. I've seen original footages from warfilms. Cameras are mounted to fighter planes and I just want my camera to stop shaking while I move.
It would be great if they recreated this Expo on the very premises of the original one: after the originally-drafted plans: Including new breakthroughs from the last hundred years!
But not necessarily. Instead of microplastic pollution they had raw sewage and industrial waste in lakes and rivers. Instead of unpronounceable chemicals in the air they had smoke and soot from millions of heating fires.
It's so weird that we have video evidence of the past. The people who are filming this clip didn't even get to see how the world was the same amount of years prior. They only had stories of the past. So weird.
These buildings you see in the video are pavillions. In particular in this video you are seeing the pavillion of the land and see forces of France, after that there there's the creosote pavillion from Schneider (an advertising pavillion), and after that just right before the ending the navigation pavillion. There were all other amazing buildings in this massive exposition, but do not be fooled: the majority of them was made out of metal and plaster, and could hardly last more than the time they were supposed to last (a few months). But nevertheless they were designed and decorated by the most famous artists and architects of the time, and each country was supposed to present and prepare their own pavillion, so it was like being able to travel across the world in a span of a few kilometers.
It's still crazy that all these magnificent and costly buildings were built only to be disassembled afterwards. Thankfully the Eiffel Tower was saved at least.
They weren't as costly as you might think. Like nearly *all* world's fair buildings even today, they were basically movie sets. They looked great on the outside but were cheaply-made on the inside. I've visited parts of 3 fairs and the innards of many buildings were plywood and lath, with cloth hangings to disguise the rougher parts. Most WF buildings are designed to hold a specific exhibit which makes it difficult to find a new use after the fair ends. As bizarre as it seems, it's usually cheaper to trash them than to disassemble and repurpose most of them.
We take the mickey out of them for the tech of the time but fuck me they could make some incredible buildings. They’re just unbelievably beautiful. Shame so many of them didn’t survive

"they say" because most of them _were._ If you've visited a world's fair or read anything about them, even today most buildings are basically movie sets - painted to look great on the outside but plywood, lath, and plaster on the inside. Yes, there've been a few that were intended for permanence, e.g. Memorial Hall at the 1876 expo, the Métro station in Paris, etc. - but most were designed and built for specific exhibits; they couldn't easily be disassembled and repurposed somewhere else. As crazy as it sounds it's actually cheaper to trash them than to find a new use.

For me, I have a hard time picturing the past in colors because of black and white photos and videos, so it‘s really nice seeing them colorised.
dude just use your imagination lol
Look at the craftsmanship on those buildings, insane masonry.
Even more so when those buildings were only meant to temporary (made of wood and plaster) for the exposition.
As Mel816 notes most weren't masonry. They were essentially movie sets, made to look good but really cheap.

Are you telling me that a 120 year old tech still has better image stabilization than most phones today.
It was very likely restored, stabilized, colorized, interpolated and upscaled with modern technology (AI)
