Things like gender. I have a friend who pulled their child out of a school because she was being taught that she could choose to be a boy and should be because she acts that way. That is child abuse and is horrible.

A parent in Florida was successful in getting a book filled with more violence, murder, rape, and incest than any of the books that school district had already banned. You guessed it. It was the Bible. The school board published a list of the issues that would get a book removed, and the board's published policy stated it would ban any book if it contained one issue from that list. The Bible contained several. I was surprised the board stood by their own policy, but I also think most boards don't like book banning. What's good for the goose...

When I was a child my parents who grew up during Jim Crow were raised as Quakers, idk if you know about Quakers but it's the belief that we are all God's children, he doesn't pick favorites...nor does he turn his back on a child for being raised with different beliefs. My parents didn't understand the cruelty and different treatment, so they left Texas and went to New York got into the jazz scene and made friends. Later still searching for equality with the hippies. However, they made sure I understood the truth of it early on. Growing up in a almost totally white community, they read me black fables and histories, sad stuff like Tar Baby...and because they treated me like I should be able to understand I did. I didn't find myself hating all white people or myself I was not confused about the history. I wasn't indoctrinated into anything. I'm just a person who believes children are smart and strong, that understanding each other is important and that everyone no matter their skin color, history, religion, strengths or weaknesses is equal in the universe that made them...we are all atoms and the closest we can get to God on earth is enlightenment, but that doesn't come through prayers or meditation it comes from education. Bring kids closer to God, tell them the truth. No kid is going to break because their great-great grandmother was a part of slavery or homosexual. @Prasanth Thomas Some are scared to face the truth. Toni Morrison wrote 'Beloved' novel which is about the complexity of those enslaved where anyone is able to look at slavery through a new lens. Through the eyes of an individual. Suddenly, it is easier to understand slavery not as just an injustice that happened to a group of 600,000 people in the United States, but happened to actual individuals. People with their own uniqueness and personalities. This happened to mothers, fathers, daughters and sons. To people who, just like us, had dreams and fears. To people who, just like us, had loved ones. This Novel helps those certain people who want to minimizes the impact Slavery, from thinking about slavery as just a massive event that happened to thousands of people; but instead look at it as an injustice that could have happened to any person in your family, because this happened to people-individual people who actually exist.

I grew up in Houston and we read this in high school in mixed Ethnicity class groups ....great discussions - no one felt disenfranchised. In fact, it was one of the books that gave non-black folks a way to understand and also black folks to examine their own internal societal blind spots. And for such a decorated author, they really want to make much ado about nothing to keep us the public from really talking about things that matter. Let's be clear about this tactic, there are more important things to be talking about but as long as they keep doing the silly laws little focus will be put on things that really affect people and they are in essence creating the divine because it was not an issue for decades, how is it now an issue when it was not an issue 30+ years ago? The school would send a custodian, who was actually paid better, out on the street corner with a large pole-net to capture what they called "substitutes". These substitutes would sit with their feet up on the teacher's desk, ear plugs inserted, reading a paperback the entire period while the students goofed off in every way possible. And if the reader doesn't like or agree with a book's contents, reasonable critical thinking skills will usually ensure that they don't continue reading it, i.e. it comes down to personal choice. As a _very_ young child, I read Noddy, Big Ears and Golliwog books - I read them with a child's eyes, not with the bigoted mind of some of today's adults. They were my toys, but now they're gay!

I went throughout my school years thinking that I was the only 'gay in the world'!
It doesn't matter where you are on the face of the earth, there exists a plethora of sexual identities in your immediate orbit.
Books, TV Serial Dramas, and other sources provide our young people with information that they are possibly uncomfortable about talking about in the family environment.
IF your son or daughter identifies in some non-binary way, be it LGBTQI+ or other, then they are on their own personal and PRIVATE journey to find their true self.
Removing the books, removing access to TH-cam , removing access to social media will not change the underlying struggle that your child is experiencing!
WE NEED TO GET AWAY from this BLAME orientation!
In times past our ancestors were FORCED to engage in heterosexual relationships OR BE SHAMED.
The CATHOLIC CHURCH actually used CHURCH SPONSORED whore houses to get young men on the 'STRAIGHT AND NARROW'.
To all the GOP eejits that think that these policies will protect our children from information; you are LUDDITES!
You can remove and restrict access to any book you want, but the internet will bypass your censorship.
Furthermore, you cannot rewrite the programming that God Himself gave to any particular part of his Creation.
You think your child is somehow an abomination?
PLEASE re-read the New Testament and the actual WORDS OF JESUS!
YOUR CHILD IS A BEAUTIFUL PART OF GOD'S CREATION IRRESPECTIVE OF SEXUAL ORIENTATION OR IDENTITY!!!
