Oni. "Demon" or "Ogre". Spirits of wicked individuals, their job is to deliver punishments to those who go to Hell. Sometimes when a person is exceptionally evil in life, they transform into an Oni before death and roam the land of the living to punish sinners. Oni are often depicted carrying a large spiked club.
Hmmm....Judging from the look this is probably a Kijo, not an oni. But like Oni they are still born from corrupted human souls.
It's pretty much a female oni.

She is Lady Tsukiyama, wife of Ieyasu Tokugawa, and in this scene, she is mourning her son's death, Nobuyasu Matsudaira. Nobuyasu was condenned to death by treason to the Lord Nobunaga Oda, and his father ordered him to commit seppuku.
Do Oni just attack people who are straight up evil or do they attack people who have done at the very least a misdemeanor?
As fun as the fight is, it's honestly a depressing battle, I didn't know if I felt good or bad to put her down, all things considered, Ieyasu possibly could have handled the situation with their son in a much better way than what went down.
I like this one its very atmospheric...

Hannya is very plausible. She was once named Lady Tsukiyama. A niece of Imigawa Yoshimoto. She is Nobuyasu's mother and a former lady of Tokugawa Ieyasu. She became jealous of the attention Nobuyasu gave this new wife Lady Tokuhime who was a daughter of Oda Nobunaga. His wife and mother didnt get along so Lady Tokuhime spread a rumor to Nobunaga that conspiring against the Oda. So in order to prevent any chance of any problems among the Tokugawa and the Oda, Ieyasu had his wife killed and had Nobuyasu commit seppuku to prevent any other problems. Ieyasu is just as cold as Okatsu says he is. But because of Lady Tsukiyama's jealousy toward the attention her son was giving to his new wife Lady Tokuhime, that jealousy couldve transformed her into a chunari hannya

Onibaba is maybe better translated as demon hag than ogre. There's a really old movie with the same name, too, and the cursed oni mask.

Anyone know the lore/myth behind the Ogress? This sounds like the one who drowned their baby by accident, am I wrong?

this is a reference to an event where ieyasu made his own son, nobuyasu (the one she mentioned earlier) commit suicide to basically avoid a potential conflict with his close ally nobunaga, and the ogress here is nobuyasu's mother
I'm 4 years late but the story is: Ogress is Ieyasu's queen re-animated as yokai. Ieyasu was fiercely loyal to Oda Nobunaga, and Oda's daughter was married to Ieyasu's son Nobuyasu. But apparently Ieyasu's wife was jealous of the closeness of the young couple, and even arranged to have a concubine for Nobuyasu since the couple only had daughters and no sons -- and the said concubine happened to be from the rival Takeda clan. This was unacceptable to Oda Nobunaga, and to prove his loyalty to Oda, Ieyasu immediately had his wife executed, and had to order his son to commit seppuku to eliminate the risk of him trying to avenge his mother later in life.
Well, at least bosses dont have the magic follow mechanic...
