Jerry Rawlings came to Kenya 8 years ago to the funeral of our former vice president George who was assassinated by the state. George was Jerry best friend and I never saw jerry down that way. Anyway all those General's who died and jerry were all young and not fully mature that is why there was coups and countercoups. Rawlings brought some sanity in Ghana and we must all thank him .

Ghana first president nkrumah inherited a rich nation in terms of natural resources,but lacking technological and managerial skills.However he became arrogant and embarked on gargantuan spending spree with no coherent strategies to replenish outlays from inherited assets.President nkrumah misruled and dictatorship precipitated the army police coup against his government,and started dictatorial military government culminating into the brutal PNDC barbaric government.The all powerful almighty God who spoke and things happened didn't need six days to finish creation,he could finish everything one day or even a second,but just as in his usual humility came to earth and was crucified on the cross,chose six days to finish creation.Why six days?maybe God is speaking to mankind to finish one major task at a time.In a nutshell,if president Nkrumah had developed strong agriculture foundation,before industrial diversification of the economy,ghana would not be importing food now.The rush to industrialisation,shortly after independence when agriculture was manual and primarily in rural areas without clean drinking water,electricity etc,drew farm workers to newly created factory jobs located in cities where all the modern amenities were concentrated.By the way agree the interviewee doesn't know what he is talking about.

All that he is saying is very true but the only thing that was partly a perception was that
"All the people who were taken or went missing did not return back and were killed..." That narrative thinking is partly false perception.
Most of those people who went missing or taken by soldiers were sent to prison without trial or conviction and were used to work on national farms and do hard labor for long years... Some for life. But because family and friends don't see them again in a short time, it was perceived they had been killed. Some few who tries to be stubborn or challenge were killed by the soldiers. Most of those killings were not authorized by Jerry but he had given power to the military men. Those times a military man can just decide to kill you or take you to prison or what's so ever he wishes to do to you.
Some of these people were released after soo many years in prison but nobody talks about it because of the long time perception we hold on to.
That is exactly what he said just that he did not made mention of their hard labor in prison and if he said they were killed is true because most of them never returned

The old dud is doing well but some of his assertions aren't factual. 1. J.W.K Akkufo was second in command to Acheampong ( the head of state) 2. The place coup took place in 1978 when Akkufo overthrew Acheampong. 3. It's also not true that Rawlings had his finger nails plugged out. Rawlings and his men were sentenced to death by firing squats on the 3rd of june 1979 by the military junta. He was rescued by Ohene Gyan and co on the eve of June 4th when the coup was successful. These are some of the facts

The old dud is not giving accurate information on the palace coup. The said coup by Boakye Djan took place on June 4th 1979 when akufo was then the head of state. Ghana was then preparing for elections to democratic rule. The AFRC was in power for only 3 months and not 2 years as the old boy is alluding to. Elections were held in September of 1979 and Liman of PNP won. Next time kindly invite me for unbiase update.
