VERTICUTTING - my way to a perfect lawn

What is verticutting? This video has all the answers and information you need on the newest way to control your thatch levels - verticutting. We use the new Allett Stirling with its removable cassettes to dive into the world of verticutting.
Is it better than scarifying, how often should I be verticutting, and what does it actually do. Is it possible to get strong stripes healthy lawn if I'm not verticutting.
Last week we looked at different tools for scarifying, including the scarifying rake, electric scarifier, and professional petrol scarifier, but this week we look at alternative to heavy scarification - the more gentle, and more frequent task of verticutting.
Verticutting can prevent lateral growth of the grass plant, and encourage grass to spread. If you cut your lawn in stripes, you probably have lateral growth which is detrimental to your grass. Vertical T is one of the newest lawn care techniques that you need to help you achieve the perfect lawn.
It works especially well in grass types with stolons and rhizomes such as fescues and bent grasses, the really effective method of thatch control for all types of grasses.
It can even help you control some of the weed grasses and weeds, such as poa annua (annual Meadow grass), and crabgrass.
If you want the best lawn, inverted cutting must become a regular practise.
Benefits of verticutting over scarifying, is that it's a much gentler process that should be carried out more often. Because it's more gentle than scarifying, your grass will recover quicker, and will look less battered after verticutting. This will help maintain the look of your lawn throughout the peak season.
Scarifying should still be done once a year as part of a lawn renovation, followed by hollow tine aeration, seeding, fertilising Anne top dressing.
