I'm a musician and I've started a few club bands over the years, (Chicagoland area), and while I've worked with some good musicians and singers, none came even close to this. F&F is world class all the way!
They originally started when Maggie and Sammie were 15, just as a way to get a little extra cash for the girls for college, they added Chase when she was 15, when Maggie went off to college, he never expected that they would become as popular as they are now, I really think the pandemic has really helped them become even more successful because being quarantined people have been on here more than ever before.
My husband was Todd's sound engineer back in late 70s at Utopia Sound and Video in Bearsville NY. Last ran into him in San Francisco at Mac World at Moscone Center. Todd was still living in Sausalito then, before he moved to Hawaii....what a cool sweet guy ... beautiful job with this one!!😻🤠🌵
@@jaytomson7052 What they did with "Telling Me Lies" was take an obscure song from 35 years ago and brought it back to life in a big way. The Ronstadt-Parton-Harris trio made one notable recording of it back then, but few other covers have gotten much interest until now. The songwriter herself even weighed in on it favorably, on their Facebook group.
Todd wrote a great song and Chase nailed it! The best version of this song that I have ever heard and it brought back the hope and faith that we had in the '70s. Too bad that the world has turned into such a mess in 2024.

No!!! Then she would leave the group. I hope they all keep playing together until their fingers fall off! That said - I'm happy to pay for the music I love to hear.
@Mario Lopez I do radio and it's amazing to me how fast this has happened. In about 5 years, more than half of the music I play is independently released (i.e. from the band's own web site or their streaming accounts) rather than through a label. Bands have found out that they might sell half teh number of songs they used to with a label, but they get to keep most of the money and they dont have label weenies telling them what they have to sing and what they have to wear etc.
When F&F did a cover of Mamas and the Papas, "Say a Little Prayer" I thought how are they gonna hit those powerful high notes by Cass Elliot? Chase did it. But, Here's the big question, why was she out front on this softly delicate tune?
She really knows how to throw in those "just right" embellishments and runs without ever overdoing anything -- many older singers could learn from her! The held note and slow run from 4:10 - 4:21 is sublime!
Probably the 20th time I have listened to this and Chase just blows me away very time. She has fantastic range and her breath control is spot-on. A perfect complement to an outstanding group of musicians, and Maggie and Sammy are just wonderful.
And Tim Purcell needs to be credited as to how he has delivered, over and over again on covers as good or better than the originals. So much great music has been written but can be updated. Hope some corp recognizes his talents and does something special!
I was brought to Fox and Fossils via the Mustangs' cover of "Penny Lane." The best cover I've ever heard of anything from Magical Mystery Tour. Tim is such a talent, not only in musicianship and skillful production, but being the person and role model to bring talented people together, young and old, and offer such fine and creative musical covers. Hats off to all...You guys rock!

The “foxes” certainly have three distinctly different vocal styles. Chase is emerging with her powerful voice. Blend them plus the Fossils and the harmonies are world class.
And each with their own styles makes each one my favorite. When Maggie sings, she is always my favorite, when Sammie sings, she controls and captures our hearts, and when Chase sings, well when she sings "kiss me under the light of a thousand stars", I actually feel my heart flutter.
Wow ! Wonderfully so beautifully you all brought this song again 2024. Because we all need to hear it, " Love is the answer". This world forgets . Thank you all of you. 😊

Yes. Let's contact Kelly Clarkson to have them on her show. The world needs to have this song as our anthem. F & F help me every day with my happiness and I can't thank them enough.
I’ve commented on this before, but I want to comment again. This band is incredible. And, in this instance, the most incredible performance is that of Chase. It’s almost unbelievable what she is able to do worth her voice. That note she holds toward the very end is amazing. Amazing! How she can hold it for so long and stay in key and not sound like she’s straining is, well, incredible. I’m not a person of many words, and you can see I use the same words frequently, but I was so moved by this performance. I’ve found it moving every time I’ve watched, but never this much. Perhaps it’s the state of the world we’re in. I don’t know. But thank you, Chase, and all the Foxes and Fossils, for giving this fossil a shred of hope. ❤️
Partly inherited. Chase's grandmother was a Broadway and opera singer, I understand her mother is also a very good singer. That and working to make use of the wonderful talent she's been given. She loves to sing.
I've listened to this performance over and over. From 4:10 to 4:20, I can't detect Chase sneaking a single breath, and it's not as if she's holding one pitch - she's modulating. It blows me away every single time I hear it. Unbelievable!
@@davidtrowbridge919 When they all sing "ever", the 1st part of the word is like a physical object, a silver seashell or something. The tight harmonies are absolutely masterful, I so love it whenever they sing "ever".
I think I’ve seen Todd 60 or 65 times over the years, and I’ve never seen a cover band/tribute band/just a group of honestly great musicians, do his work any greater justice.
Rundgren wrote the song but the commercially popular version was sung by England Dan and John Ford Coley and reached the Top 10 in the charts in 1979 and is frankly my favorite song of all time. Nice version here - good job!
Chase destroys this song. An absolute vocal tour de force. I can't stop listening to it. She sustains "Love" from 4:09 to 4:30. Eleven freaking seconds!
Chase was the new girl when she was 15 .. the same for Maggie and Sammie .. Tim and Darwin go back to 1980 together and their group cut one album .. Tim is the mastermind behind the F&F group with the musical arrangements and harmonies all developed so each members strengths are emphasized .. without individual egos .. Tim and all members have higher production standards than the music industry at large and it's obvious when you look and listen at their recording history
I find myself coming back to this song over and over. Everything about it from Chase's lead, to the harmonies, to the instrumental arrangement is just ON POINT! Sooo GOOD!
Not a weak spot anywhere. And how in the world does Chase hold that note at 4:10 for approximately 10 seconds? I've listened to this over and over, and I cannot detect her sneaking a breath anywhere. It astounds me every time I hear it.
Probably because there's not the least bit if marketability there. There's literally only around 10M wannabe "stars" that post TH-cam videos of their garage band each day. What makes these kids any different? Record labels want young, new talent, not Grandpa and the Grandkids who can only perform covers. I get it. You've never actually seen real talent and certainly have none yourself, so EVERYONE is a Superstar in your eyes.
@@DIESEL0759 this comment is so clueless as to invent a category of its own, let's call it hyper-cluelessness. If angels fell to earth, and took human form, Nashville and Hollywood would ignore them. Not 'sexy' enough.

@@lynwessel2471 Lyn, I have to come back to this song every so often to get BELTED by Chase. Amazing power!
@@robertbates6057 I could never choose a favorite, but I listen to this one as much any.
@@lynwessel2471 it’s my favorite, hand down!
I've listened to this performance over and over. From 4:10 to 4:20, I can't detect Chase sneaking a single breath, and it's not as if she's holding one pitch - she's modulating. It blows me away every single time I hear it. Unbelievable!
Harmony this tight is not heard that often. Another gem by Foxes and Fossils.
The very reason I love this ensemble. The musicianship is superb and harmonious are so tight. The leader of this band has done a righteous job.
@@davidtrowbridge919 That is correct sir.
@@davidtrowbridge919 When they all sing "ever", the 1st part of the word is like a physical object, a silver seashell or something. The tight harmonies are absolutely masterful, I so love it whenever they sing "ever".
Somehow my subscription to this channel got canceled. I’ve missed their music. So happy this popped up while scrolling through Todd Rundgren videos!!
Hit the orange logo for their complete list of videos.
Chase absolutely kills this tune and the harmony is tight as hell!
Beautiful song beautifuly performed.
Chase's voice is pure butter. This is really good stuff. No fake stuff, just people putting their heart and soul into the music. Thanks.
MAN! They re good !!!
The proper stuff. Full fat butter, none of this margarine rubbish that we are too often forced to endure. Great stuff.
I posted a year ago that you need to turn that girl loose and boy did you
P
WOW!!!!! Just WOW!!!!!!!!!
This is one of the best lead vocals I have heard.
Chase destroys this song. An absolute vocal tour de force. I can't stop listening to it. She sustains "Love" from 4:09 to 4:30. Eleven freaking seconds!
@@oldprankster7606 check your math 8-)
4:09 - 4:20 is 11 seconds
Chase was the new girl when she was 15 .. the same for Maggie and Sammie .. Tim and Darwin go back to 1980 together and their group cut one album .. Tim is the mastermind behind the F&F group with the musical arrangements and harmonies all developed so each members strengths are emphasized .. without individual egos .. Tim and all members have higher production standards than the music industry at large and it's obvious when you look and listen at their recording history
Let's all pray the chameleon doesn't get too very heady. He is surrounded by surreal talent.
@@jaytomson7052 Go to "Bonnie Bone" channel for 8 tracks from the band "Traveler" featuring Marty Bone,Tim Purcell and Darwin Conort.
@@lynwessel2471 I will try to find that... thanks!
I must say, just who are you?
F&F before... and after. They are one very contagious source of love in today's world of "none".
I stumbled upon your band in TH-cam accidentally. But now I can't get enough of your nice music
There should be some sort of a TH-cam award for this!
There is. It's called a Josie Award, and Chase has been nominated in three categories, all for her solo work, not F&F.
Chase is nails on this. And the musicianship is as solid as always. Stellar cover.
I find myself coming back to this song over and over. Everything about it from Chase's lead, to the harmonies, to the instrumental arrangement is just ON POINT! Sooo GOOD!
me too
Tim Purcell is a genius.
Not a weak spot anywhere. And how in the world does Chase hold that note at 4:10 for approximately 10 seconds? I've listened to this over and over, and I cannot detect her sneaking a breath anywhere. It astounds me every time I hear it.
same
Totally agree!!!
I remember this by England Dan and Joh Ford Coley.....great job!....so many of these songs were from the great decade of the 70's.
Simply stunning. Why aren't they under contract with a major label?
Song selection of this group is superb. Whoever is in charge of that has impeccable taste. Execution of all the covers is always so good. Thanks for the love and care that you put into your work; it's much appreciated.
I think selection is a group decision with suggestions from various members. Many are fan requests left under their "What Song Will They Cover Next" video.
This was the "another Todd Rundgren song in the works" that Sammie refers to at the start of "Angel From Montgomery".
Chase is a gem! What a powerful voice!
That was GREAT! Thank each of you SO much!!!!!

No question a master, every time. In the top 3 I've ever heard and I'm a Fossil and put him in the group with Michael Rhodes and Jimmy Earle. Let's not forget how good Tim is at producing/editing. Also a master.
He is my favorite bassist❤️
@@kktruran: Scott will pop in and tell us that he's just lucky to play with the others. That's true, and they are super-lucky to be playing with Scott. And *we* are the luckiest of all, cuz they all play for us.
Freaking awesome performance! Chase has the absolutely most sultry voice I’ve ever heard!
Outstanding lead vocal by this young lady!!
I have watched Chase sing this like 30 times now..Be(you)tiful..love it!
Wow her voice gives me goosebumps.
Beautiful instrumental and vocal arrangement. Perfect phrasing by Chase to take full advantage of her remarkable range without overselling it. Wise beyond her years.
I'm actually sitting here in tears. That was incredible
This is the most polished vocal groupie heard in decades! Im 53, very musically in tune. The production of this band is top notch. The vocal blending and professionalism is at the top. Thank you for enriching my days with your music. Keep these voices together ❤. Chase, Maggie, Sam, and Tim. Thank you all.
I’m in tears.🥲 This was a soul-shaking performance.💓
Get a grip.
I said before that there are no bad covers by F&F, only varying degrees of “damn that was awesome.” Now I have to come up with another word because “awesome” seems woefully inadequate.
Well Stated!!
How about "FanTabulous" which means they are beyond Fantastic and Fabulous, My made up word.
I guess you haven’t heard the Billy Joel cover 👎
I find myself saying WOW through my tears of appreciation.
