You all are doing a wonderful job! As someone that has lived in an older home before, I’d definitely paint the cabinets-inside and out, when you’re feeling up to it. A year is a long time-when you’re using a space everyday-all day! It will make such a difference and paint isn’t too expensive. New is wonderful-but paint can make things feel clean and fresh! Your house is becoming your HOME! Excellent work!!! Take care of yourself! 💖
I think painting inside and outside the cabinets as well as new hardware would make a big difference to those cabinets. Especially the inside. It’s amazing how clean old cabinets look with fresh paint
These move in and organizing home videos are so reminiscent of my childhood as a military kid! My mother had moving down to a science. We even made two International moves with the military. The way you are so organized is extremely satisfying for me, I am the same way.
SO excited to see how your space becomes your home! ❤ Christian deserves all of the praise! It's amazing that you both are able to do all of these things on your own!
I can’t tell you what a comfort it has been finding your content. My husband and I just bought a house last month that was older but seemed move-in ready with a cosmetic wish list we could work on over time. It quickly proved itself to be anything but that! Thanks for the encouragement that it’s okay to live with imperfection and just keep trying our best and be grateful for what’s not a disaster!
Wow, you' ve made the kitchen look a hundred times better already! If you have the time and energy, painting the kitchen units is a good idea as an interim measure and it will make the kitchen feel much fresher and more like your own. I am loving these videos, by the way. 😀
I love watching you and Christian renovate your home and I’m looking forward to seeing more, maddie is so cute helping you and her curly hair is gorgeous and also a big kiss for Bucky ❤❤
This is the first video of yours I’ve watched in a while…when you started loading the dishwasher I got a glimpse of your cute little bump! I immediately said “awwwww” 🥹
So happy you’re starting to settle in. Watching you unbox gave me a flashback! About 4-5 yrs ago, I had a big move. I finally got those last few boxes emptied, and was carrying the empty boxes outside, and missed the last step on the deck, aaaand fell. Broke my foot in 2 places. Then, when I was packing up to move out, at the end of the year, I was on the deck rolling up my rug. Then, one leg went through the deck. No broken bones that time, but my leg looked pretty bad. So glad I was renting that house, because there was a lot of things needed fixing.😳
It looks so amazing! You’re doing a great job of working with what you have :) Also don’t worry about sounding like you’re complaining , we know that you are grateful to be in your new home ❤ can’t wait for another video!
There is a paint called Beyond Paint that you could use on the cabinets and countertops. No sanding is required and no prep work. Might take two or three coats. I haven't done it but have seen several who have.
You got a lot accomplished. I know how you feel about the older homes with wanting things to be clean. We bought a 1966 fixer upper 5 years ago and the kitchen was the first thing we did. I'm so excited for all the new home content! It's going to be fun to watch you and Christian make this house your own.
Praise your hubby all you want! You’re both doing an amazing job making this your own home. You should both be proud. Home ownership can be a lot of work, but definitely worth it. 🥰
Loving your videos! When we moved into our fixer, we had a very old and dirty kitchen and I never felt like I could get it clean. We ended up painting the inside and outside of the cabinets and it made it feel so much cleaner and more like home. Plus it made me want to cook more! Keep up the great work, it looks amazing! ❤️
You'll get absolutely no irritation here for praising your husband for all he's doing! I do it all the time! You SHOULD be grateful and praise him for his hard work helping his family! 😊💜
That top rack for kitchen utensils in the dishwasher? Made my heart _flutter_ I'm thankful for our dishwasher, you don't have to wash dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, but a top rack would be amazing lol
Perhaps a skirt on the microwave table? With a matching curtain with easy slide rod and rings over the bookcase? Either neutral or pop of color? What you have done looks great!!!!
Just found your vlogs and subscribed that kitchen looks tons better already I will definitely be keeping up with you to see the progress you are blessed to have a husband who can do some of the work himself
It’s not easy making it feel homey when you know it’s only temporary, you’re doing great. I’d definitely paint or contact paper the inside of the cabinets as they’re so dark, it’d look much fresher and cleaner.
My parents and I both have older houses and what you said about thinking the project is going to be quick and simple and then its not is basically every project in a old house. Its just what I expect now 🤣 New house is looking great!
Perfect timing! Taking a day of R&R and needed some entertainment ☺️ I bet you could paint the counters and make it look like marble. Love seeing all the personal touches you are doing to the house!
It's a process to reno a house to make it home. We've been doing that for just over a year. But we're now taking a break, some short trips out of town while the weather is good & saving up for our 2nd bathroom & flooring in the 2 1/2 of our home. Also - it good to see more of Christian! It great to be married to a good handyman (I know - I have one also 😊)
Deitch counter top refinishing kit is amazing! We did it to our kitchen when we moved in knowing it would be years before we could redo bc of the huge counter space we have and getting quotes. It has held up beautifully and was $250 to do. Home Depot online!
yes! you are one of my inspiration. Was able to do DIY on our kitchen area using the stick on wallpapers. Just like what you did before on the rental house.
Hi there , your both doing great moving in and unpacking ,I too think if you paint inside and out of the kitchen cupboards it will feel so fresh and clean and you will feel better about using them . Your hubby is very handy and does deserve the praise my hubby is not so handy but his best friend is so he helps loads , bye for now huni you take it easy when you can’t your growing a new baba lots of love to you all Katie from Scotland 👍😉😊💛🏴
Take it from someone else who has a fixer upper, paint the cabinets. We also estimated replacing our cabinets within a year of living here, and three years in we are still not ready to replace them. Life has happened, other repairs have taken priority, and living through renos in other areas of the house with a toddler has been really challenging. Having had making minor updates like painting the cabinets, changing the faucet and hardware has made all the difference in making me more thankful for what is there and made it way more functional. Plus, I bet others in your audience would love to see a budget makeover as well. Another benefit to waiting and trying to enjoy the kitchen as is is you get a better idea of what you really want and can save up a bit more for EXACTLY what you want. My design for what I wanted for the kitchen just moving in until now has changed 10+ times as I have lived in the space longer and evolved in my lifestyle and daily needs in a kitchen.
Have you thought about checking out your local habitat for humanity restore to see if they have any laminate countertop slabs you could use to swap out? Just an idea for a budget solution (though definitely not the easiest😅)
If u paint the cabinets & walls in the kitch I’m sure it would feel a ton better in there u may not need to address the counters? Otherwise I think what u did in ur last kitch w peel & stick countertops is ur best bet for the short term. Love watching all the progress!! U guys are doing an amazing job!!❤ love seeing Maddie & her curls🥰🥰
That laminate on the walls above the countertop looks like you should be able to peel it off…just cut through the caulking. You’re doing a great job making this house your home. 🥰
IMHO and experience, ONLY use drawers for bottom cabinets (except under the sink, obviously). Small space or large, deep bottom drawers can hold everything, and you never have to get on your hands and knees to reach to the back of a cabinet. Please keep in mind for a remodel! Also, the IKEA drawers are the same quality as high end German cabinetry, at nowhere near the cost. It is just the boxes and fronts are less expensive.
For the kitchen backsplash. If the current backsplash peels up…Joann’s has their peel and stick tiles are on sale…I think a close out sale. That might make you all feel better about the space.
I hope the people who sold you your dishwasher told you to make sure that you have tun the hot water to your sink before you start the dishwasher. Dishwashers do not heat the water.
I'm enjoying watching these move in make ot liveable videos. I would just clean the kitchen good and live with it. It will stay more motivating to get ready to redo it. Take it slow.
Did you guys catch the few sneak peeks of the dining room makeover?
Yes!

My favorite series right now. I could watch you re doing this house all day 😂
It’s lovely to hear you celebrate the teamwork you and your husband share. Well done.

I'm so glad to hear it! It's definitely overwhelming, but little by little we're making it our own and you will too :)
Wow, you' ve made the kitchen look a hundred times better already! If you have the time and energy, painting the kitchen units is a good idea as an interim measure and it will make the kitchen feel much fresher and more like your own. I am loving these videos, by the way. 😀
I’m excited to see all that’s to come. Bravo to Christian for doing all the things. Cant wait for the next one❤
My next video should go up on Tuesday... It may or may not be a room makeover 😉
I love watching you and Christian renovate your home and I’m looking forward to seeing more, maddie is so cute helping you and her curly hair is gorgeous and also a big kiss for Bucky ❤❤

Putting contact paper on that white table where the microwave is will add a cute touch to the kitchen! Love these videos!! 🫶🏽
It looks so amazing! You’re doing a great job of working with what you have :) Also don’t worry about sounding like you’re complaining , we know that you are grateful to be in your new home ❤ can’t wait for another video!
Christian is amazing at what he does❤🙏
You’re doing so well, I’m 61 and renovating a really old farmhouse. I only wish I was doing as well as you two. Sending you my very best wishes :)
There is a paint called Beyond Paint that you could use on the cabinets and countertops. No sanding is required and no prep work. Might take two or three coats. I haven't done it but have seen several who have.
It's great you brag about your husband's abilities! Blessings!

I remember doing all of this when I had my first house. I had the same cabinets and I hated them. It just took time and patience. Great job.
I look forward to your videos , can’t wait to the next one and I’m glad Bucky is settling in ❤❤
Loving your videos!

You’re doing such a great job. It’s nice to follow your journey
been waiting for your upload. When there is no upload, that is when I visit your IG haha finally!
Hahaha I've been sharing a BUNCH on IG! So much behind the scenes stuff over there - hopefully you've gotten your fix of the house content that way ;)

Loving it! Tbh I would just slap some paint on the backsplash for now!

Hey Alison you did a great job with the kitchen considering what you had to work with ❤😂your doing a great job & love your little helper
You should praise Christian he’s doing a great job. Would like to see more of him. 😍
You can get a flexible attachment hose for your Dyson that will allow you to get into the corners of the pantry. It’s a game changer.

Hi Alison- Thanks for sharing this with us. I'm thinking as well as painting the cabinets decor of a similar set up to your last house ❤
Luv your videos !!❤❤

I’m loving this content! You’re making me wanna be a homeowner to do what I wanna do, but waiting till hubs retires from the AirForce ☺️
You are both doing a great job can’t wait for the next step in your home making, just look after yourself don’t do to much x o
My OCD appreciates you removing that lil piece of plastic from the dishwasher 😂💖
Loving the new home content ❤
I'm so happy to hear that! I can't wait to start sharing the room makeovers that we've done so far!
@@AllisonMcPhail so excited!! Congrats on the new baby, praying for a safe delivery and healthy little one. ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Alison you are in my ❤you must take care don't crash out 😮😊

Your videos are great but I have to admit when your little girl and german shepherd are in view you lose my attention. They are so precious 😍
