We just bailed out the Wolves. The effects of operating above the second apron were potentially going to be dramatic for that team, and as a result they were desperate to move KAT and his massive (and ascending) contract over the next 4 years. This trade for them was primarily about salary relief, as Randle either represents an expiring contract at best, or an additional option year at the worst. In either scenario, Randle will provide the wolves serious financial flexibility (in comparison to KAT) once he is gone, and he will play - without much of a drop-off in performance - while he is there. But even if Randle fails to mesh with the rest of the team, the Wolves’ organization will not lose as they will simply play Naz Reid in front of him, a move that would effectively destroy Randle’s free-agent value and force him to opt into the final year of his contract (assuming the Wolves don’t trade him for smaller expiring-contracts before the deadline). Even if Randle plays extremely well, the Wolves will not extend him for anything close to what he wanted from the Knicks, as it would defeat the purpose of trading KAT in the first place. The Wolves knew Leon was not able to convince Randle to give the team another discount. They also knew Leon was under pressure to mediate the disastrous center-position situation. They held out for DiVincenzo because they knew how much talent they would be receiving, and they also knew it would make the trade of their super-talented former number-one-overall-pick much more palatable for their fans, but more importantly, they knew Leon would eventually bite. But even if Leon didn’t, they could just keep playing KAT until another suitor appeared. The Wolves had a lot of leverage. We went from having one of the best benches in the NBA and being in position to trade for a solid center at the trade deadline, to replacing our “Randle problems” with our new “KAT problems,” still needing to trade for a center, and having a relatively weak-bench in comparison to our contemporaries. Make no mistake, Randle was the focal point of the trade for the wolves (they coveted his contract significantly more than his play), but it was our loss and their gain of DiVincenzo that was the cherry on top. You can find talent all over the NBA, but heart and clutch-factor are in short supply. The wolves know that fact all too well, and they moved accordingly for DiVincenzo. The right move was to keep Divo and trade Randle for a starting center sometime between now and the deadline. Even with all the chaos, one could easily argue the Knicks and their dogfight culture were a lock for the ECF. Leon got desperate and traded two dawgs for the only KAT on a team of Wolves, and basically got fleeced. More importantly, Leon just set this team back for as long as it takes KAT to adjust to everything ahead of him (media, team culture, team chemistry, a demanding Thibs, etc.) or until he is traded. It’s just sad he didn’t have faith in what he was building.
Randle wanted out. It's better to trade him for something of value rather than he gets in one of his moods and he starts acting up. KAT can always be traded later or at the minimum they have him for 3 seasons and he doesn't pick up his player option in year 4...
That was well said, but what I failed to mention is that Randle wouldn't sign an extension, so the Knicks risk losing him for nothing, having to trade him midseason, and upset chemistry. They may not have gotten someone of KATs caliber, though he comes with questions of his own.
Correct which is why he was included we had a flux and needed 7 footer who can shoot. Donte was great last year but if he playing 20 min a night ( like he would this year) why keep him and not get KAT love Donte. We be fine. Bigger question is Mitch health and everyone else playing up to expectations
We gave up Rj & IQ for OG & paid him 42mil & now we give up Randle & Ragu for Kat & his Supermax contract... it's literally the same kind of trade. We overpaid for OG( & everybody loved it) we overpaid for Bridges(the new york tax) & now we're over paying for Kat... it's time to keep that same energy, that "Front of the Jersey" Rhetoric that I heard all last season... LGK's were finally going to play modern basketball 💪🏾🙌🏾🤌🏾
This is an Outstanding move. This team is a monster both on offense and defense. Good defensive teams will be gassed guarding this squad which will help our defense.
Very well said. A thoughtful perspective by someone who is a passionate knicks fan but remains objective. This was cool to watch. A knowledgeable woman Knicks fan. Fantastic!
I think it’s a bad take from these other channels to claim we lose defensively with KAT instead of Juju like Juju put the clamps on anyone. Towns not great defensively but he’s an actual 7 footer that can block shots unlike Juju. We buggin with these takes that are making Ju a player he’s not.
What the lost in the Trade. Payroll flexibility. Randle is the team 2nd best creator, He is the best post up player. His man on man defense. He demands a double team. He is anything but soft. Finally, your best ability is availability. That is what all you guys say. Mitch has played more games than Towns over the past 5 years. I was saying 60 wins, now I am saying 50. Fifty is a great number for Towns. That is how many games he averaged a season over the past 5 years. This is an overreach trade. Randle and Donte is a lot to give up for Towns plus the salary difference.
I would've rather if we got Myles Turner or Naz Reid.. but it is what it is We are swinging for homeruns I just hope the big names are worth the price tags... And we don't end up like the suns
solid analysis. the only thing i maybe disagree with is, i think overall our defense is not as solid. divo plus randle are i think, together, better on d than kat. physicality and toughness for sure, but of course height can't be taught. i've never been a huge randle fan, but i hate that we gave up donte. i think overall the team identity loses some of that dawg and physicality. i hope thibs is able to get kat to fit in and enhance the chemistry, rather than watering it down.
Knicks are still championship contenders, I have a “Wait and see” attitude about this, losing Randle toughness and divo shooting hurts but I do understand why the Knicks made this move as it addresses previous weaknesses…I feel KAT will be a great addition
I forgot to address this in the video but Randle not signing an extension was probably the number one reason. You don't want to lose him for nothing in free agency and you don't want to have to trade him at the deadline and mess up team chemistry so without an extension it needed to be done before the season.
Randle was a ball stopper offensively. Kat gives us a better inside, outside offense and can space the floor better than Julius. You also cannot train height, KAT at his size with Mitchell injury history, losing IHART.... you had to take the risk as you were constructed..... We keep saying how Thibs and staff and make Centers, well we really think Thibs cannot get more out of Kat ? Yall act like Randall was the 2nd coming of Oakley w/better offense, HE WASN'T!!! Yes we're gonna be in the 2nd apron, as if OUR FRANCHISE can't afford it... We complain and B*** we don't go for it, I've lived the entire Ewing era... Imagine if we gave Patrick this kinda help!!! Even take 98' Ewing, this kinda talent... shidddddd Losing IHART, is the genesis of this entire off season set of moves, PERIOD. We had to go all in here and now, or risk not signing Ju, who wasn't gonna take a discount after bringing us back to credibility... so we pulled this trigger now vs later, he doesn't resign, and our cap just as F'ED... Least with this trade, we have a highly flexible S5, match-up nightmare for PHI & BOS, which is the goal!! Our bench now, needs a little more help, losing Donte sucks, but he didn't want a huge playing time cut and its unknown what impact his attitude would've had on the team. I'd love to trade back for him IF POSSIBLE, but doubt he'd want that, if playing time gonna be an issue. Kolek, Payne, Shamet and McBride are gonna be the keys to the bench, Mitchell either gonna be the backup C or we have to trade him for a reliable, less injury prone C... As for the 2nd apron, thats next seasons headache, which depending if we can restructure some contracts or trades, we may be able to solve Knicks went all in to win now, i can't be made at that. Its what you're supposed to do
I failed to mention it but to your point Randall not signing an extension was probably the biggest motivator for this trade. He sounds an extension and he's on the team. I'm not blaming him. I understand him wanting the max but the Knicks could not take that risk of losing him for nothing
@@DopeSoulSports facts. If we didn't have special cap rules this year for IHART....then Mitchell = #2 Center, but Julius on the other hand, his resign would've been just as bad of a cap issue next year. And with Ju being the Genesis of the rebirth, and Brunson being that dude, let's keep it 💯 as a Man and competitor, no way in hell he was gonna take less $ at this point in his career. Especially with his shoulder, he's probably thinking this my last big bag 🎒 and lesser injury questions from MGMT. So he 100% wanted a max deal this off seasons, and that would've fucked us, with a dude that let's also say didn't deliver come playoff time more than once....we all watched Brunso take over. It's undeniable. But like I said IHART, was the key 🔑 to all these moves. He resigns, we're not doing all this.... Julius, his game is more old school which I love, I'm an 80s baby. BUT, the boy is a black hole much like Melo, game become iso for everyone else, it moves less... that's an issue for what should be a motion offense were actually running

So many people wanted Randle gone 2 seasons ago for a bag of chips. Now they want him? He didn't want to be a Knick anymore so the Knicks had to nake a move. Julius could jave easily signed an extension and he didn't. The Knicks just rolled the dice on KAT rather than lose Julius for nothing. You don't want Julius to start acting up during the season and his value tanks...

I thought Knicks were trying to win a championship using the cba rules with contending teams breaking up because of the cost of second apron rules while the knicks keep the same roster with lower cost contracts only now for leon to gut his strong bench s d stsrting 5 for player that puts them in yhe luxury tax.this is something id expect from the knicks of old to do not leon and its disapoting to watch
Randle didn't sign an extension though so he would have been a free agent at the end of the season not sure they wanted to take that chance so they traded him.
He's a four or five and I think for the next to be at our best he has to play center. We really don't have an advantage if he plays power forward and we're playing Sims or precious at center
My KNICKS FANS, show of hands, when we lost the year prior, in MIAMI.... How many of us bitched and complained about Julius mentally checking out in multiple playoff games cause his shot wasn't falling??? I'm just saying. Boy stop hitting shots, he drag his ass and pouted one too many times..... I loved him, but boy had some issues too.
I'm so pissed Queen! Grown ass man so not crying about it like when Willis traded Clyde for JIM CLEMONS! Never forgave Willis for that and will never forgive Dolan, Rose and Tibs for this! Trade my favorite player once was enough - after 55 years as fan (I'm 64) I'm done with Knicks over this dumb ass trade. Starting unit now with KAT and Josh is lesser and bench withot Josh AND Dante is decimated - from best to mediocre average if lucky. Zero loyalty from Knicks and that ain't cool! KAT is Charles Smith 2.0 soft as Charmin! Randle checks bullies like Embid - even KG backed away from the smoke back in day. All kat can do is make some of those goofy faces. Ju was/is tough NY dude ala DeBoushere, Zbo, Oakley, Stat, Johnson, Thomas, Lucas, McAdoo, Xman, AND he was better PF then all of them - our best - and we do him like this??????????? Still improving - every year - already 3x All Star with 8-10 years ahead of him to collect 5 more appearances. He has a work ethic like Kobe taught him and has not reached his apex so could play 10 more years. Nets on phone with Wolves all week end. This was a salary dump for them so Wolves won't want to / can't extend Juju at 250m anyway and he would be crazy to take a penny less at years end. Nets have HUGE opportunity to embarrass Knicks and build a fan base again now as Randle loves NY and maybe not Ju 100% but town 100% loves Divo! Its a business and those 2 would sell seats at Barclays BIG TIME like no others!!!!!!! Randle and Dante for D Finny Smith and Bogdanovic maybe 1 scrub matches $ and Nets can send 2 or 3 Knicks picks if had to to get boys back to NY (Brooklyn). With Juju, Dante, Claxon, Cam Johnson and Schroeder, an equal bench now, and 4 first round picks Knicks biggest problem will be Nets and for looooong time! Juju will go to Nets as FA if they don't trade him and get nothing so its smart move for both Wolves and Nets to do this now. Julius is 100% family 1st guy so to keep his family most happy staying in NYC he won't demand super max deal - same $ as Markkanen (250m over 5) I've been saying is market value. Gotta pay him more then what oft injured never an All Star OG just got!!!!! Knicks likely offered Juju extension with out no trade clause at 189m (min ext - based off the already discounted deal he is in last year of) 10% less then OG! F THAT if I'm Juju! F Dolan, F Rose, F Tibs F the "Captain" too who is only pissed about Dante being shipped off being told it was gonna be Randle and Mitch not Dante! Knicks back to being a 48-50 win team at vey best with no enforcer after cutting Mook (hope Nets sign him too, and Precious for sure after his lame 1 year deal expires) rather than 58-60 wins. Another 2nd round defeat awaits at best now. Nets an instant playoff team and with 4 picks in pocket to land a couple of quality bench pieces next year..... Maybe Juju and Dante can light a fire under Simmons ass in mean time too? Poetic justice for Nets to win chip with Randle and Dante - after beating Knicks in ECF would be some real crazy Karma! I'm so pissed Queen!
Don’t come back fam. A grown man being this emotional. What happens when he leaves after this year for another team and we get nothing in return? Juju coming back from injury. What’s to say he comes back the same player? The same player we named No Handle Randle where most complained about him for 4 years. All of the sudden Randle seems to be the best player to wear a Knick uniform. You got used to losing and can’t fathom trying to win a chip.

This is a good trade for the team because is upset he's not the man no more so I know he was going to leave , he want the ball too much and Jalen Bronson playing that part now and he's upset
Randle has also been a head case. He's feels intitled. He's also been favored by Thibbs. His style of playing outdated. He's Melo 2.0. You guys are acting like you love the player more than the team. We're grateful for Randle for bringing the culture back. However, it was time for him to go. We got a chance to see other players and we also got a chance to see Thibbs run a modern day offense.

I hear you. I still would have like to see that team but I'm not crying over this team either. I like the possibilities
@@goattygoat9489I'm a young fan and I understand his pain and he's right, the Knicks franchise don't care about the fanbase just themselves being greedy and will trade your favorite player with no hesitation in this case 2 big pieces it's stupid
@@goattygoat9489 can’t and won’t argue with that level of stupidity and ignorance
@@goattygoat9489Bro. Are you serious. Randle led the Knicks back to the playoffs solo with one of the least talented rosters. He couldn’t beat the Hawks because we had no other players with gravity. Past few years Julius by far the healthier player. Make no doubt about it this is a gamble.
hold on - juju better than bob mcadoo, lj, x-man, even dave d...? no, no and NO.
Qam Yahsharahla ✡️✊🏾🕎
Now we stuck with this soft injury prone big man Randle was giving us 70 plus games a season I’ll be surprised if towns give em 50 🤦🏼♂️
Injuries is definitely a concern
No coming to see Julius Randolph play basketball.
💯
This is a good trade for the team because is upset he's not the man no more so I know he was going to leave , he want the ball too much and Jalen Bronson playing that part now and he's upset
Appreciate you watching
Randle has also been a head case. He's feels intitled. He's also been favored by Thibbs. His style of playing outdated. He's Melo 2.0. You guys are acting like you love the player more than the team. We're grateful for Randle for bringing the culture back. However, it was time for him to go. We got a chance to see other players and we also got a chance to see Thibbs run a modern day offense. He would've kept running the same prehistoric offense. I am glad that we've moved on from Randle. Let's go Knicks!
You gonna be glad if Towns only plays 20 games next season? Check out the injury history the past 3 years between the two. 🥶
He should feel untitled he came here when nobody wanted to be a Knicks now that the ball up and rolling everyone wanna be a Knick 🤦🏼♂️ I can’t respect this front office always treat the players that put in the most work like trash
It's a gamble but let's see if it works out
Huge mistake IMO
Definitely a gamble but hopefully it works out
U another wandle stan be quiet
Give town's his dam respect what's wrong with u
Thanks for watching!
