The only major accident I can think of that Edward was involved in was one Big Mickey hit him with s giant boiler. But that wasn’t Edward’s fault, so I wouldn’t count that.
Aside from getting hit by Big Mickey with the ship’s boiler, other accidents Edward has had was when he also crashed James into the billboard and got damaged, caused his pipes to fall out of his trucks onto the line (from that one episode we all hate), crashed into the barrier and gravel on the closed line while taking the mail, while not getting damaged (somehow) got hit by those logs being thrown around on that one place we don’t speak of, and also got hit accidentally by Percy in the BWBA era where his trucks got derailed (all minus the Season 7 one from insignificant and forgettable eras).
Henry: “You! You can't climb hills!” James: “Hey! It wasn’t my fault I couldn’t grip the rails! The line was covered in leaves!” Toby (off-screen): “Perhaps you will need a leave blower to get rid of leaves on the line!”
It's going to take a lot more then just one donkey to pull a train such as the express. Perhaps Sir Topham should use dinosaurs, they're bigger and stronger.
And then all the passengers saw that a Donkey was pulling their Train, turned on their heels, and demanded their money back. Seriously. What was Topham thinking? A Donkey can’t pull one Express Coach, let alone the five or six Gordon usually pulls.

None of the mentioned accidents here were any of the engines' faults. For one, no one knows what caused Thomas to leave without his train. And he couldn't have known that he wasn't pulling it. Perhaps they forgot to couple Thomas to the train. Perhaps Thomas was too impatient to wait till they were ready. Or perhaps the driver pulled the lever by mistake. Anyhow Thomas started. Also, for James, it was those wooden brakes they gave him. His driver and fireman always said they were no good. For Gordon, as he approached the new station, neither the driver or fireman could apply his brakes; something had jammed. The driver reduced steam, but Gordon was still going too fast. And Thomas's controls were meddled with by the cleaner, causing him to run off on his own without being able to 'wheesh' or stop. And for another, Henry and his crew, while pulling the Flying Kipper, couldn't know the points from the Main Line to a siding were frozen.
