  • Many mowers don't cut at the height according to the controls. Learn how to quickly determine your height of cut on your mower.
The right cut will help your lawn stay more healthy, require less fertilizer, and stay greener.

I live in TX. I was told that 3" is way too long for Bermuda and the best height is 1" if you don't scalp due to uneven ground. If you scalp spots, up it a half inch until you don't. My easy test for a push/self propelled mower is to set it at 4 at all four wheels, which is theoretically supposed to be 4 inches (but it's more like 3"). So I do that first in a spot with 4 and then I check and actual blade of grass for how long it is. Then I know what the offset is. 4 is 3 inches. 3 is 2 inches, etc. Unless you are a lawn cutting professional, it's usually a one time set it and forget it setting.

I am confused. Is the height from the surface to the blade vs the blade to the top?

From the ground to the tip/edge of the blade that's pointing downward. Hope this helps. Happy mowing.
